That is no basis for being a good coach but YES, he probably would be a terrific QB coach but imagine he was the QB coach in NE in 2000. Does he help Brady? I think the Chad as QB coach live on because he'd a guy who grew up in a family with a HC in it. Has been around football since he was a kid. Is cerebral. Has the right disposition and experience. Makes total sense that people want to see it

JohnnyLV
I think Manning will be involved at some level. If I am the Jets I push him to work with Sam in the offseason and offer a lot to be QB coach,. I go no where near Chad as QB coach

Is the answer to either is "no", then why speculate? This. I suppose it's not unique to our team, but the emotional connection to alumni having an active role in the org. is baffling. Has Chad done any coaching? College or pros? No. I want a good qualified, and experienced QB coach for Sam.

Checking down when you have Chad's arm is one thing. What Chad would tell Darnold to do with his cannon is very likely quite another.
SpartanJet
I don't want his noodle arm rubbing off on Sam. I could just see him giving advice like "don't care about first downs, make sure your completion percentage is as high as possible by dumping off 1 yard passes" or "When you try a long pass throw it as high as possible so it hangs for at least 5 seconds so the receivers get crushed waiting for it". Hard pass.
kelticwizard
Unless you have come across new research into genetic transference, Chad's arm strength cannot replace Darnold's simply by standing next to him. Also, I don't think Darnold even knows how to throw a ball that hangs in the air. Chad had much less physical ability than Darnold, but had a successful career by knowing how to maximize what he had. Imagine what will happen when Darnold maximizes his greater physical gifts.

I haven't heard any rumors or anything but I thought it would be an interesting idea... I wonder how often a former player for a team becomes their QB coach... Chad's a pretty smart dude, like what Gase is trying to do, and sees a lot of promise in Sam... Could be interesting! Yeah, and while Chad is the QB coach, Darnold can teach Chad how to throw a 15 yard out

Barry McCockinner
I've said this a few times but I'd like to see them bring him in as a consultant specifically to work with Darnold on his play action. That's one thing Chad was always great at. Darnold is terrible with play action and needs a lot of work. If it works out well maybe he can be brought on as some sort of coach. I would imagine play action being a hell of a lot more effective when your RB is Curtis Martin rather than Crowell or McGuire. Not that I disagree it was one of Pennington's strong points. Bring in Bell and let's see how well play action improves.

And a bit creepy. Neither Chad nor McCown has anyplace on an NFL sideline right now. Let them go coach college for a few years and prove they have any skill at coaching first. McCown was the only positive influence on darnold this yr. those idiots Bowles and Bates did more harm than good for the kid

Go back and watch, he hardly even gives it an effort. I am super high on Darnold but that is one area that really stood out to me as needing improvement. It's a big reason I have such disrespect for younger fans, they don't get the concept. Tom Brady as a Jet, sure, bring him on! I spit on that. We don't need Payton Manning, he's not a coach, he's a Nationwide Adman. We can hire a Coach is we need a coach. This is stupid anyway since he isn't offering anyway, so ffs.
