It’s too bad Shell went to IJ that was supposedly beyond a typical ACL/MCL/PCL injury. It’s too bad, the Jets were “developing” only to see him on another team. The injury had to scare the Jets..

Eh, I think when Fant is at RT where he is more comfortable he plays well. Him and Becton are the two guys I feel confident about going forward as our LT and RT. I also think McGovern will play better once we get more talent at OG around him, or conversely, draft a talented C and put him at G. O-line is a unit and (especially the guys on the inside) help each other a lot on every play.

A list of average players doing average things for other teams. Aside from Robby, Davis and Adams this isn't a list of players I wish we had. And even Adams wasn't good enough to help the Seattle D and has been hurt for weeks. 

NFL teams are filled with castoffs from other teams. This isn't anything new. You could probably make a similar list for just about every other team. A good chunk of the players you listed have also played for other teams  before coming to the Jets.

Fant is only on a one year deal.  Jets can upgrade in the offseason

Fant sucks a little less. The overall context here is Fant signed for 30 m vs Shell 11 m. Again, if he doesn’t get injured he’s probably still on the Jets for maybe the same money.

That inexcusably bad signing aside, I still believe this team has a penny wise/pound foolish approach -- it seems historically when a guy emerges we compare his new market rate to his old salary and think "wow that's expensive." This is the wrong approach -- the correct measure of value is what would it cost to replace that level of production. Too often we let guys go and then burn a premium draft pick to replace him with pretty much the same guy (Leo v. Q) or go into FA and get a guy for 75% of the cost who is <50% the player we lost (Perriman v. Robby).

 

The proper move with Leo was not to try to replace him at all, or to replace him with a low round/UDFA type player.  

Also, I still maintain Perriman is 75 % the player at 75 % the cost of Anderson.  Both he and Anderson have succumbed to poor QB play and coaching here.  I admit that in hindsight the best move would have been to bring Anderson back AND add Perriman (or someone  like Demarcus Robinson), and/or to draft a 2nd receiver.  Go full assault on a position of need.  Even though I like Vyncint Smith and we could have never expected to lose all 5 of our top WR's to injury, adding 1-2 more receivers than we did absolutely could not have hurt.

The Jachai Polite chatter quieted down too, considering he's done absolutely nothing there in 7 games outside of his 1 sack and a handful of QB Hurries.

And if we indeed "missed" on Polite then Seattle did too.  They cut him about 3 weeks after they signed him.

When it comes to the Jets over the last decade, this franchise has been really good at drafting bad players who stayed bad.  That's been the far bigger problem than coaches who failed to make use of the players they were handed. 

When it comes to the Jets' problems, Mike Maccagnan was several orders of magnitude the bigger problem than Todd Bowles and Adam Gase.  And I do think both of those HC's suck.

Demario Davis and Robby Anderson are the only guys who were clearly good here and should have been retained.
