I would support a move to start mandatory training camp earlier.

The camps have become too easy (no more two-a-days), and the starters barely play in the preseason.  This has resulted in an uptick in injuries and lowered the quality of the product on the field early in the regular season.

The players are not voting yes to anything that is going to require them to show up earlier and work more.

Agreed.  The only way this happens is if it's included in the negotiations for a new CBA.

It’s not proposing that. It would eliminate the OTA commitment in May and move it to June/July. The pushback is going to be from the media and league office because it impacts their summers off.

Goodell: We’re going to play games every day of the week and on every holiday and we’re also going to go to 18 games.

NFLPA: But that’ll make the games worse and increase the likelihood of injuries.

Goodell: True. What would you like in return?

NFLPA: What if we didn’t have to practice at all and put off all our conditioning work until the last minute?

Goodell:

Brought to you by the geniuses that traded millions of dollars for future generations (rookie cap) in exchange for taking away two-a-days and testing for weed.

Isnt the ota commitment in may voluntary?  If so, yes this would require them to work more?

If I am reading this right, its stating mandatory training camp would start at the end of june.  Thats 2 months of camp.

2 months of “camp” this isn’t a return of 2 a days etc. they’d likely bookend OTAs and minicamp into training camp giving the players all offseason once the season ends to do their own thing. The ones who are annoyed about this is the media because they want July off.

Ok but would the 1st 3 weeks of this be voluntary?  If not, they are not going to go for this.

Where are all these media types who are annoyed?

Better yet, annoyed because they have to cover the NFL in June?

Thats so much worse that covering the league for a few weeks in May and then July?

Breer, Jeremiah. Both bitching about it on behalf” of coaches and front offices. It messes up their summers off

This makes sense to me but they should keep rookie mini camp. Having OTAs and then the 3 day mini camp followed by 6 weeks off just seems dumb to me. Always has. Expect lots of negotiations soon for the 18 game season that will start as soon as next year

Yeah?  He says it’s not going over well with coaches and front office people.

You said it won’t happen because of media types complaining.   You answered Breer and Jeremiah and the. This tweet.
Not close to understanding why media types would even care.

I said it won’t happen because the league gets final say and they likely don’t want to alter their summers. The media doesn’t matter they’ll just complain either way, which they’re doing here. What are you even arguing this time?

It's literally the NFLPA making the proposal and the reporting is they have the support of a majority of the players, so ... less than 0% chance it happens, you think?

Where’s the link indicating the media wants their summers clear for some unknown reason and where are Breer and Jeremiah’s complaints.
Not an argument, a question.

ummmm its the PLAYERS association who are making the proposal. wouldn't make much sense for the PLAYERS association to be working on a proposal that the PLAYERS didn't want

I don't see this happening because it leaves five months without any new football footage to agonize over and a month and a half with really nothing about the NFL to discuss. A free block from whenever a player's team is eliminated in the playoffs until mid-June in the following season is long enough for a spring league to take hold and open up opportunities for players to move between the leagues, potentially even play for both leagues in one year. It's not accidental that the NFLPA brings this up as the UFL is starting to get some traction with viewers.

Isn’t the NFL basically sun setting NFL network?

Keep decreasing practice, keep wondering why the NFL product is getting worse and worse.

No hitting in practice.  Less preseason.  Lose OTAs.

"We don't know why offense is going down"

This makes sense. The players are off from the last whistle of the Super Bowl or sooner, the front offices and coaching staffs are working right thru the draft and rookie camp. The players are getting plenty of time with their families and would only get more not having to deal with mandatory spring practices. Especially those with primary residences outside of where they play.

As has been mentioned, the league wants to get to 18 -and perhaps 20- regular season games eventually. If this is what the majority of players want, it’s a bargaining chip.

The coaches and front offices aren’t unionized (I don’t think). So these types of changes are inevitable. You can set your watch to the media complaining.
