Putting $10 on Rodgers for MVP ... to win $8,000

I'm putting $10 at risk for a shot at $8,000. That's effectively an 800-1 payout, though it covers two steps (if Paul Skenes doesn't manage at least 5 strikeouts tonight I lose my $5 bet at Fan Duel and don't get the bonus bets to play there, which would suck but still leave me with a 300-1 payout if Rodgers wins the MVP).

Skenes has been brilliant.  over 5Ks?  No problemo.

It's $10 that he's talking about. How many people do you know who can't afford to lose $10 -- whose lives would be noticeably altered for the better if they didn't spend 10 bucks?

If he gets $10 worth of entertainment enjoyment out of it - which he may have enjoyed already - then it's no worse-spent money than tossing a 10-spot on anything else far more forgetful and unnecessary.

There's always a soap box waiting for someone to step up and proclaim his views on the merits of sports gambling.

I don't bet my eating money.  Ever.  But I do eat my betting money!  For me it's fun.  MLB betting this year has been phenomenal up to the all star break.  Since then..... meh.

Hit the Pirates under and Mariners under 7 yesterday for a nice pair of wins.  Good pitching rules.

Exactly. At -1200 I made like 42 cents on that one, but the point wasn't to earn, it was to get the bonus bets. So you take the biggest favorite you can find, on the money line.

My own soap box proclamation was that he was talking of a one-time $10 bet and no more. IOW such an insignificant amount that he wouldn't notice losing - and in fact got entertainment value for his $10 even if he loses - but (if he hit) he would notice winning (on top of the entertainment value along the way).

I don't bet on sports myself. The last time that would even loosely qualify was when I still did a paid fantasy football league many years ago. I have nothing for or against it personally, other than a pretty tame take on it that people shouldn't bet what they can't afford to lose. I might do Doggin's bet myself, just because of the crazy odds, if it wasn't too much effort for me to go through the signup process lol. It would takes too much precious effort and time away from lengthening my posts here.

Yes.

Of course...a 41 year old, declining QB that hit the wall 2 years, coming off achilles surgery, who hangs out with King Tut instead of his teammates is an absolute lock!

How can anyone miss that.

I never heard of anyone investing in a bet on the results of a football game.  Uncertainty of the long term investments in a stock or a basket of stocks isn't at all like betting on sports.  The odds aren't remotely close.

Aside from $10 on AR to win MVP only getting you $200, this isn't even a bet a game result - it's a bet on who sportswriters are going top vote for MVP.

AR is NEVER winning MVP again even if he deserves to win it. Too many writers hate him for politics now. He will be left off ballots entirely. Don't flush your money down the toilet.

Save those $10 for your next happy meal at McDonald's.
Yeah ... Or commit to $100 to make 80k .. I don't put money on sports except for the SB pools .. so what do I know... I'd never tell someone what to do w their money.

he is not winning it -he is a 40 year old QB  past his prime coming off a major injury

sequels usually are worse than the original movie which we already saw in Brett Farve

Brett Farve was 3rd in MVP voting yr after he left jets, at 40, after major injury to his throwing arm. He was half the athlete Rodgers is.

For Bet365 bonus:

"You must be physically located in the state of Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana (permitted parishes only), New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio or Virginia in order to make a deposit or place a bet."

That doesn't mean you have to live in those states, but you must be physically present in one of them to both make the deposit required for the bonus and to place the MVP futures bet.

FanDual in CT is the sports gambling mechanism for Mohegan Sun. You should probably check to see if the bonus applies if you are in CT. I have found that not all FanDual promotions are available to CT betters because of the Mohegan Sun affiliation.

Bummer I was just going to look into it lol.

I’ve also always wanted to test the “so jetsy” principle and see if it’s more likely for something to happen depending on how much it would hurt lol

It doesn't take much for someone to hop on their soap box and preach.

Warfish and I went back and forth on this a week ago and have very diff opinions

i can respect where he is coming from but simply don’t agree

gamblers are degenerates right? Uneducated bums who can’t make a good living so they take a chance and gamble hoping to do so

day traders, short players and guys  on margin are investors. They are not gambling, they are looking at trends, history and news to make their money.

they are smart

Every so called vice has it’s issued and extremes yet gambling is the only one considered dregs of society

all the others need help

i have gambled since I am 10 and have had some really bad days - yet when I drove home from the track or casino I was not impaired or reckless to where I could have taken an innocent life

This only works if you don't have accounts with the online sportsbooks already, but both Bet365 and FanDuel are running "get free bonus bet dollars when you join" promotions (Bet365 is an automatic $150 after you bet $5, FanDuel is $200 if you win your first bet of $5 or more). FanDuel has Rodgers at +2500 for MVP; Bet365 has him at +2000. Put all the bonus bets on Rodgers and you're set to win 8K if he gets the MVP, for a risk of $10.

To me, Rodgers is basically the lock MVP if he stays healthy; everyone's already seen what the Jets are without him, so if he has a decent year and we're the top-tier team everyone is predicting, it'll be hard to call him anything but the "most valuable". So I figure what the hell, may as well take a swing.

(BTW, if you're going to sign up for these, please message me for my FanDuel referral code, since we'd both get an extra $50 in bonus bets)

That's a heck of a bet.  I think if he's in the running he could get the deciding vote(s) go in his favor because of how good a story it is (playing for this franchise, coming back from injury, 40+ year old QB, etc).

Betting $5 to get $150 in bonus bets from Bet365 and $200 from FanDuel if you win is a pretty sweet deal. I went all in on Rodgers for MVP, figuring the odds are decent, especially if he stays healthy. If it hits, that’s an 8K win for just $10. Felt like a low-risk move with a nice upside. Also, while messing around with some slots, I found this article that breaks down how slot machines work (https://naijnaira.com/how-slot-machines-work-top-features/). It was pretty helpful in understanding the features and what to look out for.

Jeez. The Pats… you really think they’re going to be that bad D?

The guy is a 4 time MVP. It wasn't his fault he was injured last year. Just like it isn't JJ McCarthy a young rookie his fault he was injured and could be out for the season too. Personally I think he's a jerkoff but still a great football player.

Based on common sense lol. Anyone who watched them both throughout their careers, can easily see Rodgers can run better , throw off balance better, more flexible. Farve threw a LOT more INTs than Rodgers in part because he couldn’t make the athletic throws with accuracy.

That's why it's a plus money bet.  The under 5.5 was -120.. I could have gone that route, but now I get to rejoice with every NE loss this season.  Hoping Maye sucks balls.

I would normally jump at an over at 5.5 and their defense, but they have absolutely nothing on offense.
With what he has around him Maye has no chance. Tough spot for the kid.

LOL there's no chance a RB on a team with Lamar Jackson ever wins MVP. If McCaffrey didn't get it last year ...

You can eat your betting money but don't bet your eating money.    That's the philosophy that works for me.   I can certainly "afford" to lose the little amounts that I bet most days.  I enjoy sports gambling.  It's entertainment for me.  I've never really enjoyed casino games, but used to go there with friends.  Aside from poker and craps, they are all abysmally boring after a few minutes. Even poker gets boring.   But I love sports and do some sports betting most days.  My bankroll is pretty good too with it for the last couple years.  And, your Nats have been real good to MLB bettors this season.  Hope they keep it up.  Only 5 more weeks of MLB  betting because around labor day, the floodgates open for the minor leaguers and everything becomes even less predictable.  But that's when NFL starts up  so OK!

The correct take. Instead of going to a ballgame, paying to watch a movie or having a drink at the bar, you elect to be entertained by gambling. As long as you understand the economics and stay within limits, it’s just another form of entertainment.

I’ve considered betting against the Jets in every regular season game, no line, just a straight up bet to lose. If they win, as a fan, I’m thrilled. If they lose, I get paid. Twisted logic perhaps, but a way to assuage my pain over a loss.

I have yet to actually implement this plan, not sure how it would go over with the football gods.

The year you do that, the Jets will go 14-3 😅

I've never done sports betting but looking at some of these bets, I must say is intriguing...

+16000 - New York Jets to Score 1+ Rushing Touchdown in every Regular Season Game

I know scoring points is often a long shot for the New York Jets but considering they're trying to be a run first team with all those RBs. Phew boy.

+7000 Zach Wilson is the Week 1 starter. Who's in?!

take whatever money you were going to put on this and go outside and light it on fire. You will at least get something out of it.
