Jets Cuts To 53 (official thread )

Exactly right.

A pick swap is worth something — like all moves in the order of a draft. Let’s say it’s a move up from pick 192 to pick 161 — both 6th round picks, so you could say because it didn’t net an extra pick it is worth less. But moving up those 30 spots or so is worth a high 7th round pick (and could presumably be turned into that, if we wanted to trade back down). Looking at it as “no pick gained” is missing the point in the relative value of draft picks.

And the Jets may have swapped a 7th for a 6th, or even a 5th — which is worth even more. Until we know the details, we can’t really assess the trade — but again, saying it’s not worth it just because we didn’t gain an extra pick is not a fair way of looking at it.

No question a few more moves to be made after other teams set their 53s & PSs so we can sneak some guys onto our PS.. I could see guys like Izzy, Brownlee, Mitchell and one of the rookie DL waived (for TBD players) and signed to PS before week 1

Both vested veterans and not subject to waivers.

Should be back on the PS tomorrow, unless someone offers them a spot on their 53.

I hope they get there along with Martinez, Seibert, Holmes & Hector.

Just seen it on the Jets site - it is indeed Codrington and a 7th for a 6th.

Better than nothing for an UDFA who wasn't going to be here anyway.

A low 7th for a mid 6th is worth a low 6th. So effectively, the Jets may have traded Codrington for a low 6th two drafts from now (I say “may have” because we won’t know until we know the draft order in 2026)

We got there in the end. No real surprises amongst the cuts, and moving Fotu and Yeboah to IR opened up a couple of roster spots.

Only 2 TEs on the 53 for now, so I'd expect a move there at some point soon. At a minimum, I think we'll add a TE or two to the PS.

as little as we use TE's.... I like the 2 we have.

Eguavoen & Holmes is somewhat surprising.

Looks like Izzy survived & so did Takk MckSack & Chazz Surratt.

I never thought that Eguavoen would make the roster.  Mosely, Quincy W., Sherwood and Barnes were locks.  Saleh loves Surratt.  That doesn't leave room for Eguavoen, as they were never going to keep 6 LBs.  I hoped that Holmes would make it over Clemons, but for some strange reason, the Jets love Clemons and believe in him.  I thought Holmes earned a place on the roster while Clemons was invisble in the joint practices and TC.

somethings got to give. 2 TEs just dont seem right to me.

I think they'll bring back Yeboah once he is eligible to come off of IR and they'll probably sign Firkser to the PS.  They could sign a camp cut TE, but I think they would look to sign a S or WR before they would a TE.

I think there's a 90-player limit to TC rosters.  There announcement said that they cut 37 players and 37 + 53 - 90.  I don't know where the discrepancy lies.

35 players released or traded in total

It has to be 37.  That's the number the Jets said that they released.  TC rosters are set at 90.  The Jets are now at 53.  Unless, the Jets roster was only at 88, there have to be 2 more players whose names are missing.

yeah i think Yeboah comes back too. heard Rodgers and him were hooking it up in TC.

but im saying for the 53 man roster. if one gets injured during the game you only got one TE to finish the game.

Yeah. It’s getting something for nothing given they obviously weren’t keeping him and knew he wouldn’t clear waivers. And he was a UDFA who cost us nothing. So, while I can see not liking it if you were convinced he should be kept on the 53, outside of that, I can’t see criticizing it.

Feel free to stick around & find the last 2, assuming what you said is accurate.

I couldn't tell you one way or the other.

35 is what they've reported, up to this point.

I'm done for this evening.

Yes, I agree.  Maybe they sign Firkser to the PS, then elevate him to the roster prior to the game 1, or maybe they sign a camp cut.  It will be interesting to see what they do.

Didn't they also move Yeboah and Fotu to IR?  Do they have to be on the 53 first?  I have said this before, but last year they cut the kickers and brought them back.  Maybe they will/did do that and then brought them back when the other two went to IR.

I've been expecting that with Firkser all along.  If he gets picked up or they want to go in another direction, Degaura from the Packers (just cut by Jags) has ties to Hackett and Rodgers and Cager (just cut by the Giants) was with the Jets a few offseasons and moved to TE, but he was not here with this staff in 2023.
