I agree with you that he knew what was going on. People can spin it

anyway they want that he hasn't been convicted yet, and I need evidence and blah

blah blah.

Even if he gets away with it because of his stature, PETA won't let him forget

about it. They will probably picket the stadiums he plays in and continue to

make his life miserable. And the fans in the other stadiums will also remind him

about it.

As I have said before I have been involved with Humane Societys a lot in my

life and I have seen abuse of dogs and cats. There is enough evidence in my

mind to hope that this guy gets whats coming to him.

At the same time though Senior, do you think that any of that will bother Michael Vick in the least? He'll still have his millions. He'll still do whatever the hell he wants without having to worry about any punishment, and he sure as hell won't give a damn about the slight possibility that he even notices a PETA protester outside of the stadium for the 60 seconds or so he spends walking in and out of the venue. He'll laugh all the way to the bank and possibly even re-start his dog fighting once he finds somewhere he can do it legally.

Then that speaks volumes of what kind of character he has.

Not that we didn't know anyway.

I strongly disagree, if accept that position, then if a player wants to be a drug dealer off of the field I guess that would be ok too. NFL players and athletes in general just do not understand that they are not only clebreties that people look up to but, they are also the property of someone else and they are expected not to engage in activitites that would keep them from perfoming as compensated.

Its not okay for anybody to be a drug dealer but what they do in their personal lives is none of our business. What I do is none of your's and vice versa. Should they be held to a higher standard because they are looked upon as role models to our youth? Yes. Undoubtely. But if Vick wants to give a house to a family member or friend, we have no business moaning about it.

Now he is caught and now there is reason to talk but this has nothing to do with the NFL.

For the 37th time, what anybody does in their life off the field is none of our business. Period. This is just as how people look down on a player if he comes out and admits that he is a homosexual. Are his homosexual tendences showing on the field? No. Is Michael Vick fighting pitbulls during halftime? No. Let it go and let the prosecutors figure out if he even knew what was going on at the house.

Yeah, your probably right although the incident where he gave the fans the finger

did show that you can get to him. Having millions doesn't always make you

immune from pressure.

some 17 year old idiot from Riviera Beach cut off the ears of his pit bull with scissors-they've been showing pics of the poor dog on the news for a week-you should hear the outrage AND outcry and calls for a stiff sentence down here....show a couple of those innocent dogs chewed up from his basement on the news and then tell me how you feel about Mike Vick

How long are you going to continue to contradict yourself? This has nothing to do with the NFL? Vick is one of the most well known faces in the entire organization! He's been on the cover of Madden and millions of children know more about Vick than our own president. These children, in turn, emulate the stars our society glorifies. How exactly is keeping his personal life out of the tabloids (which is impossible) holding Vick to a higher standard. Please pick a side and stop vomiting contradictory comments, or dress like Portis when you make them...

How many of those kids do you think actually give a rats ass about Vick's house having dogs fighting in it? A lot of kids have seen dogs fight before and only care what Vick does on the field, not what he does off of it. They're going to remember his runs into the endzone, not his kibbles & bits tales.

Stop being a dog loving homer and look at it from both angles.

The NFL is a private organization. They can have whatever standards they please and make it stick. They are in the business of marketing a product to Joe public and as such they will develop a code of conduct which maximizes their market and in turn the market value to thier shareholders.

If they want to make a rule that says picking your nose in your car is a lifetime bannable offense then they are fully within their rights to do so regardless of whether picking your nose is a criminal offense or merely offensive.

In this case dog fighting IS a criminal offense. The commissioner has been pretty clear about the idea that the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt in a criminal court IS NOT the standard required by the NFL. IF in the opionion of the commissioner's office, Vick has an involvement in dog fighting then he (the Commissioner) is perfectly within his rights to enforce any punishment that he sees fit.

This is not a f&*king democracy.

Vick does not have a leg to stand on and he should probably be asked to sit out for the year.

Most kids dont see dogfights... dont make it out like they do... and he had a good point.... Vicks face is on the cover of madden and in most of our living rooms... he is a role model for a lot of young kids...

What you do is my business if it effects me or my business... Vick is effecting a lot of people and the company he works for by doing this...

Your telling me if a school thinks a teacher MIGHT be selling drugs... they shouldnt look into it becuase its not their business?

You seem to be way to caught up in that mind your own business, dont snitch bull****...

Or if you prefer... Vick likes to watch dogs getting ripped to shreds well Joe public likes to watch super rich millionaires get ripped to shreds when they screw up.

Sorry but this is prime time entertainment for most of us and Vick doesn't really have thing one to say on the matter. Don't worry, perhaps he will get on some "where are they now?" reality show in a few years time.

You are one of the kids I am talking about, obviously, as you still think that this action is not significant enough to warrant the NFL's involvement. Vick has had incident after incident leading up to this. My opinion has nothing to do with my love for dogs; I love my two, but I am not a huge dog person anyway. Regardless, if it were illegal midget wrestling, i would still support the league's involvement. Professional athletes are becoming above the law, or at least they seem to feel that way, and it is high time that repercussions stem from illegal or unethical actions taken by these players. I am all for having a private personal life, but it goes with his job. With fame comes privacy invasion, which is partially the reason for their ridiculously high salaries; however, anyone involved in such vile acts should not be free to do so just because they are in the privacy of their residence. The NFL should be involved because they are protecting their assets, as should the Falcons.

What you do at home is your business, so long as it does not affect the well being of others, and so long as it is not against the laws of your country to do so.

good post, besides, there isn't a employer outside of the porn industry that believes what you do away from the job is none of their business-- if i got arrested for drugs, felonious dog fighting, evading the police, etc etc i'd be fired instantly as would 95% of people in the real world. 124 seems to be advocating heightened privacy for pro athletes than a working joe making a hundreth what these turds "earn," in fact, his opinion proves the very point made here: the public seems complicit to allow these guys to get away with murder (in at least one case, quite literally) just because we enjoy watching them on sundays. this backlash is long overdue and a necessary business move by the NFL to prevent it from sliding into NBA-type obscurity. sports needs players who people actually care about, otherwise it's just a bunch of thugs running around with a ball.

so you say just throw your hands up and say "screw it?" there are thug turd mcdonald's employees, salesman, mechanics, etc etc-- you think all companies should just say "screw it?" no, if someone is constantly getting into trouble away from work, beating people up, fighting dogs, doing drugs, shooting guns in public places, beating up wives/girlfriends almost every company in the world would disassociate with the idiot. you think a sports team shouldn't say enough is enough, we don't want to be associated with these morons??

I agree totally with what you said ,does it change anything, Nope. But Until the NFL or the NBA have some sort of screening involved in thier hiring of players and coaches I really don't see much change ,I only see it getting worse.Plus thier are so many colleges out there to choose players from ,the only problem with that is the teams want the Thug turds b/c they are the best there is .and nobody like to lose ,even if it means grabbing a thug to play for your team .

goddell has already started to increase the risk of drafting a turd. his actions have made it known that if said turd screws up, you'll be without his services while he's suspended. goddell has already increased the value of character in the draft ten-fold. an excellent start.

I can see why you are down on the league's character, but you cannot say all is lost. I, for one, would like to take my hat off to Tangini and Co. for trying to establish a team with high character guys. I think you will see this trend followed more and more, especially with the new conduct rules. I hate to be the bearer of bad news guys, but in all likelihood, our hero Broadway Joe had a lot to do with some of this holier than thou bs attitude displayed by some of these yahoos. He is not solely to blame, obviously, but he sure did spice things up in the sports world. With that said, the level that players today have taken some of their actions is downright despicable and it is high time the NFL does something about it. The times, they are a changin'...

It's not new that money and fame make for special treatment, but it's when pro-sports make believe it ISN'T like that is what burns me. Now I ain't no fan of that scrub Jake Plummer, but remember the flack over Plummer and Tillman's number? Now THAT deserved punishment from the league in my book, alright! :bag: New sheriff in town, let's see how it goes.

EDIT: Enabling has been going on way too long in the NFL. I think MOST of us can agree on that much.

I really hope that when this all plays out, no players involved are Jets. I could not bring myself to root for scum of this magnitude. For people to find joy or stisfaction in such vile actions truly speaks volumes of the character within their disgusting souls.
