F.Chowds
Jets cut Tim Tebow Posted by Michael David Smith on April 29, 2013, 8:02 AM EDT Getty Images The Tim Tebow era is over in New York. The Jets have released Tebow, the New York Post is reporting. Tebow was widely expected to be on the way out for months, and the only surprise is that the Jets waited until now to do it. The arrival of rookie quarterbackGeno Smith in the second round of the NFL draft may have been what it took for the Jets to decide that there was simply no room for Tebow on the roster anymore. Now the question is whether there’s any room for Tebow anywhere in the NFL. Last year, when the Broncos decided to get rid of Tebow, the Jets and Jaguars were the only teams that expressed any interest. Now the Jets have moved on, and the Jaguars have already said Tebow will not be coming to Jacksonville. Which means the Tim Tebow era may be over not just in New York, but in all of the NFL. F.Chowds
Ending a grand experiment that began more than a year ago but resulted in little productivity on the field, the Jets have released quarterback Tim Tebow, multiple people with knowledge of the situation confirmed. The people requested anonymity because the Jets have yet to make the move official. Tebow, 25, came to the Jets after a starlit season in Denver where he led the Broncos to the playoffs and orchestrated one of the most thrilling playoff victories in recent memory. Under head coach Rex Ryan and new offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, the team was supposedly deep in planning a top-secret Wildcat offense that would showcase Tebow's strengths and force opposing defenses to prepare for two completely different systems. The result was six completed passes for 39 yards and 32 rushing attempts for 102 yards and no touchdowns. Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley surpassed Tebow's season passing total on one Wildcat play. As the experiment dwindled, Tebow's frustration grew. He spoke with Ryan about his desire to compete for the starting quarterback role as Sanchez struggled, but was instead bypassed by Greg McElroy, a third-string quarterback who had not been active in an NFL game until Tebow was injured. "It was just me asking for an opportunity to play the position I love, which is quarterback," Tebow said at the time. "I can’t lie about that, I was definitely disappointed. I wanted an opportunity to play quarterback. I wanted to do more out of the Wildcat, so I was disappointed. "He knew that, he understood the frustration and we talked about it for a while." Cutting Tebow will cost the Jets a little more than $1.5 million, but will save them the inevitable headache that will come with having a quarterback depth chart six players deep. Following the draft of West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith, the Jets were gearing up for an overflow of quarterbacks heading into the spring and summer

FoxJet
Tim Tebow released by New York Jets By Gregg Rosenthal Around The League Editor Published: April 29, 2013 at 08:03 a.m. Updated: April 29, 2013 at 08:14 a.m. The Tim Tebow error in New York is finally, mercifully over. Top 100 Players of 2013 Make sure you vote for the Top 100 players of 2013. Voting ends May 31. Get your vote in. More ... NFL.com's Albert Breer reports that Tebow was released by the Jets on Monday morning after one season with the team, according to a source. The New York Post first reported the story. New GM John Idzik insisted on keeping Tebow through the draft in case they could find a trade partner or use for him. After selecting Geno Smith in the second round, Tebow, not Mark Sanchez, is the odd man out. Tebow threw only eight passes in New York and rushed the ball 32 times. Despite awful quarterback play in front of him, coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano never wanted to use Tebow as a starter. And they had no idea how to use him as a backup. New York wasted a fourth- and sixth-round pick in exchange for Tebow in a trade that smacked of ownership involvement. NFL.com's Ian Rapoport has reported all weekend that the Jets plan to bring Mark Sanchez to OTAs and let him compete with Smith for the starting job. It costs a lot to cut Sanchez, and it appears he will remain on the roster this season. Tebow, on the other hand, was cast out into the wildnerness at just the wrong time. It's going to be hard for him to get a job at this stage, much less one with a realistic shot at playing time. If Tebow ever rises again, his stay in New York will either go down as a huge career setback. If not, the Jetsstay will be remembered as the beginning of the end of his quarterbacking career. BaumerJet
As per ESPN/Mike & Mike's Chris Mortensen: John Idzik had no intentions to trade Tebow unless they got a 7th round pick. Does this mean he intended to release him when there was nowhere to go?

Maxman
Here is the official press release from the Jets: Jets Waive QB Tim Tebow April 29, 2013 – The New York Jets have waived QB Tim Tebow. Tebow (QB/6-3/236/Florida/Jacksonville, FL) was acquired by the Jets in a trade (03/26/12) from Denver and saw action in 12 games this past season. Originally a first-round selection of the Broncos in 2010, Tebow has started 16 of the 35 games he has played. For his career, he completed 173-of-361 passes for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions for a 75.2 passer rating and added 989 yards and 12 touchdowns on 197 rushes. “We have a great deal of respect for Tim Tebow,” said Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan. “Unfortunately, things did not work out the way we all had hoped. Tim is an extremely hard worker, evident by the shape he came back in this offseason. We wish him the best moving forward.” Aren't these moves usually announced by the GM? Weird that only Rex is quoted.
T0mShane
One of the more disgraceful handlings of a player, ever. Trade for him, promise him 20 snaps, then bury him on the bench while the starter is having possibly the worst season a modern era QB has ever had, then play Greg McElroy over him in a lost season. FoxJet
Jets | Tim Tebow cut Mon, 29 Apr 2013 05:21:58 -0700 The New York Jets waived QB Tim Tebow. FANTASY TIP: Ring the alarm. This will probably create a buzz on social media, but it doesn't mean a lot for fantasy purposes. He could latch on somewhere to compete for a job in 2013. We're not sure at this point where would be a good fit if Jacksonville doesn't come calling. Maxman
I was starting to think they would release Sanchez and let Tim stay. So they were serious when they said Mark would be able to battle it out for a starting QB spot. Interesting. Camp should be pretty exciting. Whatever. This is the NFL. We gave him a roster spot when probably only 1 other team (Jacksonville) was willing to do so. We gave him chances in camp to prove he deserved playing time, we gave him a shot as a receiver, used him on punt fakes and wildcat formations, etc. Yeah, it was sh***y that he was told he was the backup QB and we put McElroy in ahead of him, but that was the only way he was "mishandled" in my view. Garrard is the starter and Geno is the backup. Where does Idzik have Sanchez fitting in all of this? We need his roster spot and we need his presence from the team gone. Jetsfan80
10 bucks says we re-sign him later. To what end? He's not the swiss army knife he was touted as when he arrived. He can't play fullback for us or be an effective special teamer. We have no use for 4 or 5 QB's on this team. I don't see it.
