Ummm, its about 100 times better than the previous 20 years.

I have to say, for as much of a dumbass as Tanny was, that 2011 draft was pretty damn good.  Wilkerson is awesome and everyone else outside of McWhite was at minimum a solid pick.  Far better than 2010 (although I'm a far bigger Wilson fan than most).

Some people see this and see a glass half-empty, I look at it and see a two time AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

There are a couple of obvious failures. But one thing that is hard to ignore is there are a lot of starters. A number of above-average ones at that.

I bet this matches up favorably to the team that's won the division almost every year during this era. This is why it's all about the QB. Hides dozens of errors in drafting and even more in coaching.

The drafts from '08, '09, and '10 are the primary reason the roster here has gone completely to sh*t. Absolutely horrendous. Busts at #5 and #6 overall in back to back years, and not a single decent pick besides.

The first four picks in '11 are very good, though. Coples, Davis, and Allen are all nice picks in '12, but again, the trading away of fourth and fifth rounders hurt them that year. In '11, those rounds netted the team Kerley and Powell. You want to stockpile those kinds of picks, not trade them away.

We probably got a grade of a D from draft experts in 2011.

Fox Sports

New York Jets: C+

Draft picks: DT Muhammad Wilkerson (first round), DT Kenrick Ellis (third round), RB Bilal Powell (fourth round), WR Jeremy Kerley (fifth round), QB Greg McElroy (seventh round), WR Scott McKnight (seventh round).

Analysis: The Jets addressed their defensive line depth, but missed out on addressing the receiver position high enough. It was also surprising that they didn’t add a pass rusher.

CBS Sports

New York Jets

Best pick: I like first-round pick Muhammad Wilkerson. He fits their scheme as a 3-4 end.

Questionable move: Not taking an outside rusher for their 3-4. They lack playmakers there and it's a vital spot on their defense.

Third-day gem: Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy is a smart, heady player who will make a nice backup for years to come.

Analysis: They went big with their first two picks, which is hard to criticize, but why not address the outside rush spot? Did they really need to use a fourth-round pick on a running back?

Grade: C

Yahoo - (graded in 2012)

New York Jets

The Jets have been a big disappointment in 2011. Yet the draft class hasn't been a big part of that reason.

Muhammad Wilkerson was the Jets first pick. The defensive end started right away and he has 29 tackles and a safety. Nose tackle Kenrick Ellis, their third round pick, has just played four games so far.

Halfback Bilal Powell was drafted in the fourth round and has just seven rushing attempts so far. Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is now the third receiver on the team and has 18 catches. Kerley has also returned 18 punts.

The Jets had two picks in the seventh round. Quarterback Greg McElroy is on injured reserve, while wide receiver Scotty McKnight is on the practice squad.

Wilkerson has obviously had the biggest impact in this draft class, but Kerley was a nice find. His progress allowed the Jets to trade veteran Derrick Mason. The rest of the group has yet to help much, which drops the overall grade.

Grade : C -

Woody Johnson is the dumber, poorer version of Jerry Jones. He shouldn't be at the Combine, he shouldn't be sitting in on player interviews, he shouldn't be hovering over his GM during training camp, he shouldn't be voting on who his head coach is, and he shouldn't be dictating personnel moves. He should shut his ******* face, sit in his luxury box next to his plasticized trophy wife, sign the checks, and wait around for Idzik to win him a Super Bowl. Any interference with the running of the team beyond that is detrimental to extremes. He sucks.

Yep. Pretty much.

I don't know about the "poorer" part, but I don't think there's a thing either of these guys can't afford.

Lol well kudos to you for working hard, but combined with the thread title, I didn't get the point.  These drafts don't exactly amount to a huge "error".

Yeah, if there were a top-level QB mixed somewhere in that list, nobody would give a crap about the rest of it.  That is now, and has been for a loooooooooooong time, the Jets #1 problem.

I don't know, if you look at most other teams drafts over the same time period it would probably look like crap too. Also, how do you differentiate between drafting and player development? I mean, other than Rex, none of our coaches could really develop players in that time frame either. Thankfully we have a HC who can actually develop talent now.

While I get your general point, I think Jerry has to take the award for dumber considering at least Woody has never actually been stupid enough to make himself the f'n GM of his team (and president too).  That is its own special level of retard.

B-I-N-G-O     B-I-N-G-O    B-I-N-G-O and Woody is his name. NJ Meadowlands asked what the point of this thread is, well if he'd look a little closer he'd notice that the years listed just happen to coincide with a certain owner's tenure here so far. I think the only WORSE group of owners who could have gotten the Jets after Leon passed away is the Dolan group, with one major exception which in my book would make it a dead heat or even put them ahead : James Dolan at least would have gotten the Jets their own stadium with the words JETS STADIUM above the entranceway on the west side of Manhattan where all those dead cars and buses used to be stacked up and buried. Instead Woody Johnson cuts the same frigging deal and once more and forever more  , the "New York" Jets will remain the New Jersey Jets sharing a stadium with a better franchise that at least has won a few Championships since man first set foot on the moon. Woody Johnson is THE ABSOLUTE WORST owner of ANY major Metropolitan area sports team-without exception.

THAT nj-meadowland is the reason for this thread. Woody can't pick coaches, GMs, Asst coaches, or players-he should have done what his brother's son did and taken up philately (stamp collecting) or old-time map collecting, instead of driving old time Jets fans away in droves.

I couldn't really read this.  The syntax got lost in whining.

You still haven't provided one good reason why this thread makes any sense.  Let's see:

1) Woody Johnson doesn't draft the players.

2) These draft classes are not that bad.  There are a lot of good players.  Without going to do the "research" that you laboriously pained over, I would venture to guess that the Jets have drafted better than a lot of teams out there.

3) Woody Johnson is not my favorite person affiliate with the Jets to put it mildly.  Shane's rant about him his spot on.  But our drafting since he became owner has literally NOTHING to do with that.  Oh, and by the way, our drafts have not been that bad since he became owner.  Did I mention that?

4) Your thread about Woody Johnson and his drafts suddenly took a turn toward bitching and moaning about MetLife Stadium.  Can you at least stay on topic when you make a silly thread?

It seems the "point" of this thread is to bellyache about the fact that the Jets play in New Jersey, a fact that MANY of us here really, really, really like.

So... in summary, this thread is :bs_lame:

oh stop it, what are we children like the "dump this thread" purists over at JI? Judging every thread like we're some watcher of gladiator battles in ancient Rome with the power to end a thread's existence with a simple downward turn of a thumb? There's a simple solution; if you don't like a thread-leave there are 100,000 others to read and comment in. We all have our own feelings and opinions on this team, this owner, these coaches and players, and guess what-we're all partly right and most of the time wrong

And you know whats really sad, No one and I mean no one looks more stupid in a Jets Baseball Cap than this idiot. He's the freaking owner of the JETS and he looks like a clown when ever I see him in Jets baseball cap.

The only other Jet that looks this bad is Buttfumble and his girly band.

The girly band is worse. Sanchez is an order of magnitude better-looking is all. Neither one likely tests at genius levels, though, and neither one of them is a good QB.
