1966:  232 Comp  471 Att  49.3 Comp % 3379 Yds  7.2 Avg  19 TDs  27 Ints

G. Smith's rookie season

Geno's 2nd year

2014: 219 Comp  367 Att  59.7 Comp%   2525 Yds   6.9 Avg 13 TDs  13 Ints

Also, as it was pointed out to me earlier in another thread Joe Namath has thrown 6 Interceptions in a game numerous time, Geno NEVER did that!

Is it any wonder why Head Coach Chan Gailey named Geno Smith the starter?

Different era.  QB stats from that era are ugly by modern standards.  But still a good point.  I am in favor of giving Geno another 1/4 to 1/2 of a season to see if he will grow into the starting role.

50 % compl pctge was like gold back then.  But then they did not throw a lot of their running plays.  They were not interested in 3 yard gains on their pass plays.

I'm not sure but I think SFJ is being facetious with this thread.  It's hard to tell though.  He's certainly had a ton of anti-Namath and pro-Geno babble everywhere else!

Somebody told me in another thread that Geno never threw 6 Interceptions in a game and Joe had done in a couple of times-so I was kinda being the dick that I have been all along about this subject and this particular scrub QB that amazingly enough, some are actually defending. Imagine defending a guy who threw 3 interceptions on 4 series? The 1st was a 3 and out-remember all of those 3 and outs? Remember all those quarters that the Jets WITH GENO UNDER CENTER didn't score? Remember losing 11 of 12 games?

Yankees fans boo Geno Smith, but he doesn’t say if he’s driving a Porsche

Posted by Darin Gantt on June 8, 2015, 6:23 AM EDT

Geno Smith didn’t have much to say Sunday.

But the fans at Yankee Stadium did.

According to Mitch Abramson of the New York Daily News, Smith replied with a terse “no comment” when asked about teammate Willie Colon’s remarks last week that Smith wasn’t ready for the starting job when it was handed to him.

Asked if he felt additional pressure because of the remarks, Smith simply shook his head.

“We bought the Porsche; we’ve given him the keys; he can’t crash it,” Colon said last week. “Bottom line, he can’t crash it. We need him to be on top of his game. We’re doing everything we can as an offensive line to make him comfortable back there.”

Of course, the Jets fans in attendance must not have confidence in Smith’s ability to drive the Jets, as he was booed when he was shown on the scoreboard during the game.

Geno would crap his pants if he ever had to go up against the likes of Ben Davidson, Ernie Ladd, Buck Buchanan and Willie Lanier.

If Derek Carr sucks than so does Geno.  Carr's numbers came when throwing to the likes of Denarius Moore, James Jones, Andre Holmes and Mychal Rivera.

They were both 2nd round picks so what's the use in debating it?  Neither are probably franchise QB's, though Carr's 21 TD/12 INT ratio with that trash heap receiving corps suggests he isn't the worst QB in the league.

True, but the football was more egg shaped back then. Much harder to throw a spiral in the 60s!

LOL you know the board has hit rock-bottom when we start making threads that put Geno and Namath in the same sentence. Geno doesn't belong in the same universe as Namath.

Ya but every QB sucks their first 2 years then goes on to win titles and stuff.

Hahahahaha

The only similarity between Geno and Namath is the arm strength, and even then, Namath blows him away in that department. It's just too bad the world never got to see the mobile Namath that played at 'Bama. Would have been awesome to see in the NFL.
