Why free agents might not want to come to the Jets: MERGED

Right. I share these concerns. If it turns out that we really wanted to have the cash to sign Robby, Poole and Jenkins, that would lessen some of the disappointment. Id still have liked to see some damned o line signed but oh well. McGovern is still out there.

But dude... How the Hell did the Jets not get in on trading Bell and a 2nd for Hopkins????   That would have been the dunk of dunks imo.  Everything else would have been gravy. I'd have to think Bell was more attractive than David Johnson. No?

I wonder if we even knew Hopkins was available and if were called.

Hopkins and Robby are a perfect combo. or pretty close to it. Douglas isn't working for minimum wage. If he didn't know, he was derelict in his duties. I don't see how anybody could see it otherwise.

NJ is in the top 3 highest combined taxed states in the country. Property, income & sales tax.

So why don’t teams in California, Illinois and Massachusetts have similar difficultly attracting free agents?

I urge everybody to read this article posted. Then you'll have a better idea of what is going on here.https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/2020/01/31/former-dolphins-rb-damien-williams-dishes-on-his-departure-from-miami/

Gase, and ultimately Woody, are the 2 biggest problems with this franchise which is in worse shape than the Knicks

Somehow everyone in the nba wants to play in LA and NFL free agents are racing to San Francisco and Seattle but the taxes are keeping players away from the jets!

any free agent coming to New York can do one bubble gum commercial and make uo the difference in taxes in fell swoop. It's a weak argument, at best

Don’t the players get state taxed in every state they play in anyway?

I am not adding the Bills, but here are some Jersey signings for day one...just saying.

New York Giants

James Bradberry, CB: Agreed to a "three-year, $45 million deal, with $32 million guaranteed, per Rapoport.

Leonard Williams, DL: The team placed the franchise tag on Williams.

Philadelphia Eagles

Javon Hargrave, NT: Agreed to a three-year, $39 million deal that includes $26 million fully guaranteed, Rapoport reported.

What the hell does Philly have to do with the NYJ location? It’s 2 hours away and 4 hours during rush hours.

Remember all offseason and regular season when Gase was the savior? He’s the QB whisperer who brings a level of discipline. All those rumors of players hating him in Miami were false, and players on the Jets who already hate him are garbage anyway so who cares? Plus it’s not Gase’s fault that he’s the exact same trash as he was in Miami, it’s the ghost of GMs past!!!!!!!

We all hated Macc so much that when Gase ousted him we all cheered; completely forgoing just how unprofessional it was. He comes off as untrustworthy, and people around the NFL know to steer clear.

NFL players talk. Coaches talk. GMs talk. This isn’t the 1960s. They’re all friends with each other, or at the very least, are connected with each other through various social platforms. They talk to their agents and the agents are friends with each other. Guess what they’re saying.

Adam Gase is a non-starter for players in this league not tied to the 2013 broncos. He’s a cancer far worse than Rex or Bowles, and he’s going to make JD’s life impossible.

Nothing this year - from the sh*t season - to the terrible OL - to the rash of injuries - to Sam underperforming on big stages - to players turning on Gase - to FAs not wanting to come here —- none of it is surprising. We knew what we were getting in Gase, and we did it anyway. Because: Johnson & Johnson.

We finally got lucky after all these years when an 812 super-engine was sitting on the ground just waiting to be picked up. The Jets picked it up, and instead of building a race car around it and handing the keys to an Earnhardt, we bought cheap car kits and have our 12 year old step-son building it and driving it in the Walmart parking lot.

******* ridiculous.

So, last year, Mike Maccagnan paid CJ Mosley $17 million dollars per year—which is roughly 2x the going rate for an ILB—and Mosley still went back to Baltimore and begged them to match it, which they didn’t.

This past season, rumors were flying that the Jets had offers to trade Le’Veon Bell to KC, Jamal Adams to the Cowboys, and Robby Anderson to the Eagles, and each of those players publicly expressed a desire to remain a Jet and relief at not being traded away from Evil Adam Gase. Imagine being Le’Veon Bell and preferring to stay in this offense and not KCs. But, you babies think that Gase is the problem with pulling free agents here and not the decade-plus of mismanagement and failure that preceded Gase and Douglas? You were all very excited at the prospect of giving a right tackle $21 million dollars per year? You were hopped up to make Graham Glasgow—who is someone you didn’t even know existed a month ago—the highest paid center in the game? Did you want to give up five picks for Stephon Diggs? What deal was signed yesterday that you looked at and said, “that contract should be our contract”? The $8 mil per that the Texans gave Randall Cobb? Is that what’s stressing you out? Marcus Mariota? Again: a bunch of really good teams let players leave and a bunch of bad teams overpaid those players. The Ravens looked at the free agent landscape and made a few trades instead. The Niners, Pats, Chiefs, and Titans shed contracts of decent—but non-essential—players and didn’t blink an eye. But you’re mad because the Lions and Dolphins and Broncos played themselves for a few ok players? As for Gase, the guy most of you wanted instead of him was Mike McCarthy—what great new players did he attract to the Cowboys? He seduced Amari Cooper with a QB contract? Dak Prescott is going to get $35mm per year because he loves Mike McCarthy so much? Please.

Stop whining, you pussies. You’re gross.

In summation, retaining Gase had no material impact on how the league views the Jets. I agree.

Aye, in what will forever be known as “Ye Six and Two Mutiny.”

“6-2“ is the newer and even more stupid “back to back conference championship games”. Except that the “6” was propped up on a forgiving and easy schedule, whereas the back to back championship games were beating the likes of Brady and Peyton in the playoffs. So of course you’d side with the “6”.

The Gase Jets are so bad they can’t even quit on their coach correctly!!

You've got to beat what is in front of you. Easy schedule or not.

This is as uninformed and skewed from reality as our commander-in-cheif’s response to covid19. Even the post-note is something right out of that oompa loompa’s mouth.

Congrats, that’s a whole new level.

I also love how JN’s merry pranksters give Gase full credit for “6-2” as if the season were only 8 games long.

Hey @T0mShane, care to explain Gase’s involvement in 1-7 to me?

My favorite part about finishing 6-2 is that it makes it really hard on people who desperately wanted to go into the offseason clinging to the narrative that players wouldn’t play for Gase. You and Manish are really tied up in knots these days. Seems excruciating.

Pulling a reverse Sar. We were actually 5-2.

I was tied up in knots the moment Gase was linked to the Jets. Was proven right as soon as we went 1-7. Ended the year 7-9 against sh*t opponents and your looney toon brain processes this as a win.

My favorite part about 6-2? It puts idiot logic in full display: Gase gets no blame for 1-7 because Sam but gets full credit for 6-2 because Sam.
