Strong Safety

Recommended Posts

Me:

That pizza we made last time was pretty good. Cheese especially, and the bread. The sauce was meh, but it was still pretty solid overall. Better sauce would have perfected it! Along the way, We learned some things, like we need better sauce. We also learned that we can buy salt at a discount.

Me:

lets use similar salt like we did last time. Saves money.

You:

So you’re saying we should use that crap sauce again too?!

See above

Obviously the Strong Safety position is not a critical position to a team. But that doesn't mean you should cast aside really good players like Adams. He's not just a good safety. He's an impact player. Do we need him? Probably not. I'd rather have a great left tackle, or a great pass rusher instead of a great safety. But we have what we have.

All of the above is correct, and all of the above is why trading him is much smarter than handing him $18M per.

Theres one huge flaw to this thought.

Youre trading away the sure thing.  You have what you just agreed with, the great S.  You want to trade him for a great OT whatever because a OT and a S, each at the top of their position leaves the OT a more important player to a team success.  But there is no guarantee you snap your fingers, trade Adams for a draft pick and you get not only a OT but a great one.

Youre trading a productive piece of the team for your fantasy pick that may or may not work out.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but our SS Jamal Adams can be awesome trade bait!! He could net us a few more picks that Joe Douglas could really use to move up and down the draft board, and fill other areas of need!

Although a really good player, he's a luxury and doesn't really impact the game. There are lots of other guys we could plug in at his spot. So what do you think we could get for him in a trade?

Discuss ?

It’d be nice if the biggest self-promoter in the league actually made plays that matter.

biggest play he ever made is blizting unblocked to get a QB pressure v Dallas...      a play just about every single safety in the league can make

otherwise? pffffffffffffffft

Actually that would be multiple fantasy picks. This presents opportunities to move up and down the board and draft multiple players,  therefore filling many needs and strengthening the team as a whole.

And still the fact remains, the only team with a guaranteed pro bowl, all pro player is the team that gets Adams.  We're the team praying we get a player that contributes at least as much as what we've given up for that chance.

Thats the only given, the only fact in the deal.  Nothing can change that.  Just because we all dream of a trade that nets an all pro OT and another 1 or 2 serviceable players in return for our 1 all pro player doesnt mean it will happen

Point taken. however we have to try! It's one of the few options we have to better our team at multiple positions. Unless you want to watch Jamal Adams play great on a 7 and 9 team for the next 5 years!?

Sam Darnold could have been great, oh but unfortunately he had no one to throw to and nobody to block for him because we kept Jamal Adams who made it to the Pro Bowl and made 80 million dollars for 5 years!

These are the odds and the only realistic scenario. Are we all here to serve Jamal on planet Jamal Adams? It's nothing personal, I agree he's a good player, but any good GM would be more than willing to sacrifice #33 to make FIVE other positions better overall. Thus giving us a better chance to win. Plain and simple it's a no-brainer.
