Reddick Killed Deal that Joe Douglas and Reps had in Place

So what?   The player had a contract.   There’s no requirement to redo the contract although JD indicated a willingness to once he showed up.   The structure of the trade with the future 3 was probabaly designed for a 1-year rental with a pay bump and JD would get 4 back in a comp pick when reddick left via FA.

Haason-Reddick.jpg

After months of being under the impression that the Jets and Joe Douglas haven’t made any effort to get defensive star Haason Reddick under contract, NFL insider Ian Rapoport says that’s not the case.

Rap-on-Reddick-265x300.png

In fact, Rapoport says that Joe Douglas and Reddick’s reps had an agreed upon deal in place before the player shot it down.  There are no detailed specifics on what the deal would have entailed other than the fact that it would have been a pay raise for Reddick.  The deal would have also allowed Reddick to recoup all of the fine money he had incurred up to that point according to Rapoport.

“The deal was all but worked out with his former agents at CAA and Jets management, sources say. Reddick, who is on the hook for millions and millions in fines, had a contract offer that would have given him the opportunity to make up for the fines and make more money than he was originally scheduled to earn.”

Now the Reddick has been dropped by his representatives, it’s fair to say any new agency would have quite the headache on their hands with Reddick.

At this point he has cost himself more money in fines (almost $9 million) than he will ever make back with a new deal.  So no matter what happens, Reddick will walk away from the situation with significantly less money than he would have if he’d allowed his representatives to close the deal with the Jets.

Makes woodys comments the other day very bizarre.

if the offer is accurate what more is woody thinking telling him to come up here and we will work it out?

woody going to give him multiple years guaranteed?

something is off

This is disinformation.  Timing is impeccable. Fired Saleh, refuse to bring in Davante Adams.  If we go 2-4 who knows what nonsense woody starts telling the media the guy is an idiot

I mean you guys know why he was available for trade, right ?

where is the precedent for finalizing a trade with another team but only having a verbal agreement to negotiate the extension months later with the player?

a star player producing at elite levels over multiple years?

I can’t think of one.

Reddick wanted 3/25.

If you aren’t paying that you don’t trade for him and try to squeeze his nuts in a vice

The agent agreed to the 1 year raise because it meant a commission, not that it was what the client wanted

The way the league rules work is that he has to play out his contract to have the leverage for the multi year deal. Had he played well this year there would be teams willing to give him the deal he wanted. It was reasonable for the Jets to assume Reddick would act in his own best interest and play this year for a sweetened final year salary, rather than blowing up his whole career out of spite.

If Reddick was going to honor his remaining deal and accept a raise just for’24 he would still be an Eagle.

Pretty simple sh*t lol

Was that reported?  Please post

If true, that would have been pre-April. It’s now October.

Pretty obvious. lol.

Per Rappaport:

Currently the only NFL player holding out, Reddick must report by Week 13 to receive an accrued season, or his contract will toll and everyone will be in the same situation next year.

No H Reddick not coming in to play the last six games . Yes he’s technical still property of the Jets next season.  It’s just like D Adams situation- he’s under contract but there is no way the Raiders are giving him that much for next two years.     H Reddick - 31 years old the Jets aren’t paying 14 million dollars to play for them when they probably are blowing it all up next season .   They will try to trade him, but most likely if they can’t trade him , - they will simply cut him.        Jets could be the Jets. Pay him that much he comes to camp and gets hurt misses the whole year.     H Reddick  is finished with the Jets , and not coming in this year.  The Jets gave him and out where he pay all his fines and he get paid.  It’s personal now , and if he ever plays football again it won’t be for the Jets.

Reddick is retarded.  Anyone arguing that this situation is not his fault is similarly so.

Every case in NFL history dictates that Reddick would have been on the team with a new deal by now.  He said no.

I think any sort of due diligence would have uncovered  that Reddick is an idiot

Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is known for saying, "We want volunteers, not hostages"

JD: “If I trade for him knowing he wants a lot more than I can offer, he has to eventually buckle under the new CBA rules for holdouts and come in on his knees. Right?”

Or this is CAA try to cover their asses with a leak to rapaport.   No one knows what deal was or wasn’t in place.

They probably have more money in the bank than most countries on the planet.  They don't have to cover for anything.  The only people who don't see Reddick as the lunatic driving this train are people looking for another reason to rip Douglas.

If he hadn't made a deal and we found out he had a shot to trade for Reddick and he didn't, we'd be ripping him for that.

Maybe some of you can take it easy on the fire JD stance now. Like he traded for him and then was crap. As most of us thought….. Reddick moved the line. Not JD.

Reddick now 100% looks like the idiot in this.

Sadly for him he likely retires or something. Bc it’s hard for him to come out good in this.

What do you think would’ve happened if he said “we tried to make a trade for Reddick, but couldn’t agree to a new contract with him, so we moved on?”

That would've been fine.

But if we were told Reddick told the Jets he'd be willing to come in and play on his current deal (which is what he said), it would be weeks of the usual "Jets GM's always lead the NFL in due diligence but can't close the deal.  Fire this bum.  Missed out on an elite player".

I think most people who want to see JD get fired feel the way because his Win/Loss record is abysmal, not because of Reddick.

Watt is going to get 5/140

Myles Garrett signed a five year, $125 million contract extension with the Browns. Garrett received $50 million in full guarantees at signing and $100 million is guaranteed in total. Garrett received a $21 million signing bonus and his 2020 and 2021 base salaries are fully guaranteed.

Nick Bosa signed a five year, $170 million contract extension with the 49ers on September 8, 2023. Bosa received $122.5 million in guarantees of which $88 million is fully guaranteed at signing. Bosa received a $50 million signing bonus and his 2023 base salary is guaranteed

Maxx Crosby signed a four year, $94 million contract with the Raiders on March 11, 2022. Crosby received $53 million in guarantees of which $26.515 million is fully guaranteed at signing according to Pro Football Talk.

Trey Hendrickson signed a 4 year contract worth $60 million with the Bengals. Hendrickson received $16 million in guarantees including a $10 million signing bonus.

******* JD slapped the hood of the car and “how’s 1 year ?”

literally nobody reading this thread would buy anything worth more than $1,000 without something in writing.

When Reddick is as disruptive as those guys then maybe he deserves 25 mill per season.  He isn’t and his current contract is close to where he should be.  The only thing Douglas can be criticized for is maybe not moving to a higher offer sooner.  Reddick let this string out and is the big loser here.

JD handed the Eagles a 3rd round pick for getting rid of THEIR headache.

Maybe teams should start requesting full psych evals of players prior to finalizing a deal and hope to avoid something like this in the future.
