Head coach Marvin Lewis called the procedure a "cleanout" and said Jones will be ready for training camp. Jones could return in time for the team's later on-field sessions this spring. Jones Fri, 23 Mar 2007 20:29:22 -0700 Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Miami Dolphins LB Joey Porter threw the first punch during an attack on Cincinnati Bengals OT Levi Jones, according to a redacted report on the incident. Las Vegas Police told The Enquirer that Jones was gambling at a table at the Palms casino when he was approached by Porter. Video of the incident shows Porter striking Jones with a closed first, with several unidentified men then joining in and punching Jones. Porter was charged with misdemeanor battery and released. So let me get this straight....Joey Porter and all his boys go find Levi Jones who just had knee surgey days before at a poker table and Porter punches him in the face and then they all gang up and jump Jones and then rob him too? Video shows Porter approaching Jones, throwing the first punch at Jones' eye, and then several other men joining in to punch Jones. Some jewelry was also reportedly stolen. Ignorance would be not reading the entire article where they clearly state the police have the video of Porter throwing the first punch at a SITTING LEVI JONES. That is all I need to know. According to an incident report issued by the Las Vegas Police Department, Porter assaulted Jones at a gaming table March 18 at the Palms Casino in Las Vegas. Jones told police that Porter approached him "to fight because they argue on the football field." As a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers for the past eight seasons, Porter has played against Jones repeatedly since the latter was drafted in 2002. The report states that video surveillance showed Porter punched Jones with a closed fist and "other unidentified males" joined in the attack. Jones suffered a cut on his forehead and told police that he lost two necklaces during the incident. The Bengals' web site reported that the necklaces were anonymously returned to the casino several days after the incident. "It was a cowardly assault by a coward," Jones told the Bengals' web site Tuesday. "One versus seven, six from behind. The police report came out and told the truth." Jones said that he and Porter were at two different gaming tables when the incident occurred. "Basically what he did was walk up to me, get my attention talking trash while his boys jumped me from behind," Jones said. "They plotted the thing." Jones told the Bengals' web site that Porter left a casino last month when spotting him there. "But when there are six and seven guys with him, he's brave now," Jones said. "Strength in numbers. I guess he felt like the numbers were with him. He's been doing this for years, telling everyone he's going to do this and that to me." Porter has declined comment about the incident through the Dolphins, which signed him earlier this month to a five-year, $32 million contract that included $20 million in guaranteed money. Last Friday, Dolphins coach Cam Cameron said he was "satisfied" with what Porter told him happened and the franchise was "letting the process work itself out." "You live and you learn and I'm glad he's here," Cameron said. Cameron was unavailable for further comment Wednesday because he is on vacation, but Dolphins owner H. Wayne Huizenga weighed in on the matter at the NFL owners' meeting in Phoenix. "I just met Joey a couple of days before that and he was so personable and friendly and outgoing," Huizenga said Tuesday. "I thought, 'Boy, this is great. He's going to be a great help.' I have never liked that prick. He does his stupid dance after every tackle and has not exactly stayed away from trouble over the years. Now he will be in South Beach as opposed to Pittsburgh.
