Jets and Giants Negotiating Stadium Naming Rights

The Jets and the Giants are negotiating with Allianz, the German-based financial services giant, to buy the naming rights to their new stadium, said a person with knowledge of the talks. If the deal is completed, it will probably be for at least 30 years and for an estimated $25 million or more annually, which the teams would split. At that price, the fee would exceed the $20 million that Citigroup will pay the Mets annually for the name Citi Field and that Barclays will spend on the Nets

I still think JetBlue or Jolly Green Giant would be the best choices though I doubt either could afford it.

Agreed. Citifield today, right now, might outlive Citibank. Better to go with something that works for everyone long-term than be Pro Player Stadium after Pro Player goes Chapter 11, which the Mets may be facing shortly.

I still think we should have built our own stadium. I also think the stadium should have been next to an Air Force base, and in fact, should have been named after said base. I think it'd be pretty cool if jets would fly right over the stadium on game day, while cindy was trying to call plays.

Allianz Stadium I guess it makes sense...

Interesting. Allianz holds the naming rights to Allianz Arena in Munich, which just happens to be the most famous (if not outright first) multi-team stadium in the world (complete with exterior changing color schemes for the different teams). Our new stadium is even somewhat modeled after Allianz Arena. Excellent marketing strategy for them as it puts them on the map in two big cities on either side of the atlantic.

As a bonus, we get a the new stadium to have a name that sounds nothing like Giants or Meadowlands. Works for me.

They can name it whatever they want, it'll be known as Giants Stadium.

Considering many people throughout the country call it the Meadowlands when refering to where the Jets play thats just wrong. Anyone who thinks it will be known as Giants stadium has an absurd inferiority complex.

Let's face it. If I felt good about myself, I'd probably root for a different football team. :1st:

I think many will still consider it Giants stadium...just like some people call the place in SF Candlestick

Thats a completely different situation. It's still the same stadium they just sold the naming rights later on. Seriously this is just an inferiority complex most people who aren't from the tristate area have no idea what its called or refer to it as the meadowlands. The only people who might still call it Giants stadium are Giants fans, and who the ***** cares about them?

1st off I believe it should be called ,Bachlore Stadium because there isn`t 1 married guy out there who`s wife is going to allow him to spend this rediculas amout of money on a PSL to keep his tickets ,the Wife is going to want him to spend that kind of money on something stupid like the kids college fund or towards the mortgage. Next since the New stadium will get air time pretty much every week as opposed to every other week like they should get a minimum of 30- 40 million dollars a year for the naming right, now since this is a huge financial institution ,if I am Woody ,Mara & Tisch if we we`re ok with 30 million a year ,I`d ask for 35 million -40 million then tell this institution that we would give them 5- 10 million a yr. off to bring them to 30 million in exchange they would provide the interest free loans (for the length of their lease) to the fans .that means, the institution is saving 5- 10 million a year off the naming rights alone say 6 years is the lease time they are saving between 30- 60 million in naming rights Now the advantage they have in extentending the lease is the naming right fee will stay at the same price longer without going up ,and since we tied the length of interest free years to payoff the PSL`s to the Length of the Lease the fans get more time to pay these things off which gives them a better chance to keep their present tickets....

Doesn't it say GIANTS right on the side? I mean geez, talk about delusional. Most sportscasters refer to it as Giants stadium as well, sometimes even while we are playing there, so why would people out of the tri-state area call it the Meadowlands?

You are arguing for the sake of arguing.

Southerjet you need some help. Every thread no matter the topic you want to change the subject so something that happened a year ago.

We like to call that progress. It wasn't that long ago that he was stuck in "5 years ago".

I go to school in Oregon, I hang out with all people from California and the Northwest. Not a single one of them knows of the stadium as Giants stadium. Some know it as the meadowlands from me watching Jets stuff considering whenever sportscasters talk about the Jets they say the meadowlands as where they play, not Giants stadium. It isn't a big deal anywhere but New York and the only people who bug out about it are insecure Jets Fans who have inferiority complex. You are wrong.

So anecdotes are proof? I spent the last 3 years in Cali, everyone that is literate knows it as Giants Stadium. Not one person called it the Meadowlands. I've also traveled up to Boston, down to VA, and pretty much everywhere in between. For anyone that has ever been anywhere near Giants stadium, you see it in big letters when you drive by. When a game starts, it says "Giants Stadium" right under location.

The only time it's called the Meadowlands is when the Jets are playing depending on the channel and sportscaster. Aside from Tom Brady, every player also calls it Giants stadium. When it is a Giants game, it is called Giants Stadium. The Giants are the Super Bowl champs and have far more exposure than the Jets. People know the stadium is shared. People know it as Giants Stadium.

Are you just trolling?

Being a Jets fan from california, most people that I knew called it the meadowlands (because they knew I was a Jets fan). Most games I watched the sportscasters referred to the stadium as The Meadowlands when the Jets were playing. Its probably 60%-40% people that call it Giants Stadium as to The Meadowlands. The whole candlestick argument doesn't really apply here because its a completely knew stadium, not just a name change. Yeah sure, you'll prob hear a Jackass in a bar once in awhile call it the new "Giants stadium", but do you really care what those clowns think? Sportscasters and all the titles will go with the new name, and so will everyone else eventually. No more Giants Stadium!!!!

Sorry for bumping this but I have a little more proof that I am correct. Just now during the GIANTS game Al Michaels called it the MEADOWLANDS, not Giants Stadium.

EDIT: He just did it again. OH MY GOD! Everyone always calls it Giants Stadium! WHA WHA WHA I guess this further proves that you guys just have inferiority complexes
