Notice how the best teams and players always seem to be lucky? It's not really luck by itself, it is something you train for and put yourself in position to take advantage of. While it sucks he didn't take it back he definitely isn't an idiot. It's smart to dive on the ball and make sure you get possession of it not try and scoop up a slippery wet ball and possibly let the other team still get it.
