Mrs. (Julianne) Folk rips Manish

You may have heard NFL kickers had a rough day on Sunday, missing a record 12 extra points over 12 games.

That ineptitude spawned several hot takes about the state of kicking in the NFL, including one by the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta, who suggested the league push extra points back 10 yards in order "to marginalize these guys, who spend much of their workday standing around doing a whole lot of nothing before crushing thousands of souls by screwing up."

That sentence, and Mehta's piece as a whole, did not sit well with the wife of Jets kicker Nick Folk, Julianne Folk, and she let the columnist hear about it with a series of scathing tweets.

To his credit, Mehta did not back down from Folk's criticism.

I would submit that Mehta is the one with the misguided premise. Before yesterday's debacle, kickers were hitting extra points at the same rate they had during the 2014 season.

The NFL does not have an "extra point problem." Extreme weather will make kickers look worse. That doesn't mean the league should make a drastic change in response.

Manish is a tool - I don't believe a single word he writes. What Manish failed to say is that PKs have gotten so good at their craft that the NFL had to move the PAT back to make it challenging/interesting. They were something like 98% or so in the previous years. In a league where they are constantly making it easier to score points, the NFL made it harder as they were too good. Clearly, Manish has never been so good at something that he needed a bigger challenge.

ms folk made some pretty darn good points.  the place kickers easily affect game outcomes.  a good one is worth keeping and there is a fine line between really good and good.  folk has been money for the jets though he's probably going to be an ex jet after the season.  you can almost say that losing folk last season cost them the playoff spot just as much as their play against the bills.

What is with all the Nancy boy players having to have their girls speak for them on twitter?  Dr Mrs Folk, why did Nick blow the Cincy game with a missed pat and awful ow fg attempt that got blocked?  Was he worth his $209,000 cap hit for that game?

NFL kicker is one of the highest pressure jobs in all of sport.

The spotlight always on.  Very little margin of error allowed.  Gets marginal credit for kicking game winners.  Often gets much of the blame when missing one.

Calling a kicker a "Nancy boy" is an absurdly ignorant lack of appreciation for what they do.  They have to be more mentally tough than about 52 guys on the roster.

Is a pro golfer a "Nancy boy?"  Because the mental toughness requirement is similar, except a golfer doesn't have the weight of a city on his shoulders when he hits a shot or lines up a putt.

I was not calling a kicker a Nancy boy i was calling these players that have their wives run all over twitter to defend them.

If a golfers wife littered twitter with all the reasons her husband who is making 4 million a year is hard done by if a journalist (and a lousy one at that) then yes I would make the same snarky comment.
