Who the hell is going to play Guard for the Jets?

Actually, we need two starting guards... Winters is a bust and Colon is hurt and so-so at best. After that, there is no one in the pipe line! How come this is being over looked?

Really?  Please elucidate. You have obviously put a lot of thought into this statement.

Who?

6'4, 322lb OG the Colts traded up to draft in the second round of the 2011 draft. He played LT at Villanova but was projected as a RT or OG in the pros before tearing his ACL four games into his career. We swiped him off waivers last summer and have stashed him on our inactive roster ever since.

He could play RT, (pushing Giacomini into a swing tackle role), or RG if Breni impresses or if we draft an OT. For all the talk about WRs or TE, or tier-1 CB , I have to assume that if Jake Matthews or Taylor Lewan is still available at 18, Idzik will play it smart and bolster the OL.

You really think there is a realistic chance of Matthews being there?  If so, grab him.

Calling a mid-round pick a "bust" after his rookie season is a tad excessive.  Like it or not, they'll give Winters every chance possible to keep that job as long as they think he's got a sliver of hope to him.  He at least seemed to improve a bit as the season went on, so we'll see how that goes.  Then they've got a few other guys trolling around on the roster who I'm sure they'll be glad to see if they can get anything out of, including two other draft picks from last year.  But in the end, keep in mind that guard is probably one of the most common positions to find an acceptable player at through late in free agency and often times even during cuts months down the line.  Of course you don't expect it to be a major position of strength in that case, but there are often still options out there to at least address it if they feel the need.  How the team ultimately opts to handle it is of course another matter, but you'd hope they wouldn't blindly count on what they've got at the position.

The hell is this? Do mods give out warning points for such stupid waste of bandwidth threads here? Seriously, did u effing forget there is this thing called the draft? N teams draft players so they could be a part of the team? Or are u just a Dolphin fan trolling here? Either way, you're pretty clueless

The draft has a decent list of OG guys projected to go in the 2-3 round range:

1. Gabe Jackson 6'3, 339

2. Cyril Richardson 6'4, 343

3. Xavier Sua-Filo 6'5, 315

4. David Yankey 6'5, 311

Didn't Richardson get tossed around like a rag doll in the pre Senior Bowl drills?

 Xavier Sua-Filo 6'5, 315  This guy is a mainstay.

The OP obviously forgot that this team had Vladimir Ducasse (a recent 2nd round pick) on roster when we drafted Will Campbell and Brian Winters after signing Colon...and then signed Peterman as insurance. Then mid-season we picked up Ben Ijalana off waivers and stashed him on the inactive roster. To say we haven't addressed the position is ridiculous. To say we've neglected the "pipeline"-- even more so.

We released Peterman before the season started, let Ducasse play out his contract, and watched Colon become an UFA while he recovers from a tricep tear. The only thing we can be accused of this off-season is not getting Asamoah to not sign with Atlanta, or sign Schwartz before the Giants did. At this point there's really nobody else in FA that wouldn't be a Peterman-esque signing (throwing money at an aged JAG to compete in training camp). Moves like that can happen after the mini-draft, and wouldn't excite anyone anyway.

So all in all, it's a non-issue right now.

2 acl tears and 2 hip surgeries as well for Ijalana.    The dude was a very talented OT....4 surgeries later I think he's just trying to make it through training camp healthy.

.Didn't Richardson have a terrible Combine as well.... 5.8 forty and 18 reps? Just going by memory

How can you label a guy a bust after only a rookie season, and we could draft a guard. And sign 2 vets.

I agree with not labeling Winters a bust just yet, but Idzik seems almost incapable of pulling the trigger on deals. He has signed 2 FA's with 40 mil in cap space while guys sign with others. The Pats had almost NO cap space yet have signed Darrelle Revis and Browner while Idzik twiddles his thumbs. Pretty soon there won't be anyone left to sign.

Donald Penn, "the next Geno Atkins", made him look silly.  He was able to use a speed rush to get Richardson tangled up and got him to fall down once.  It doesn't take away from his ability as a run-blocking mauler.

Richardson is a big fat fatty.  Slow on his feet, not nimble whatsoever, but a load to push off the line.

Xavier Sua-Filo is his opposite.  That kid was running around like a TE and has the pundits talking about probowls.
