Rex will not lead the Monsters of The Midway

Bears outright refuse.

Bills and Raiders "have interest," but neither have scheduled an interview.

San Fran has him on the back burner.

Basically, he's hoping for Arthur Blank to lose his mind.

Lol, big surprise that you would comment. I agree though. :)

Top five coach, though.

Rex Ryan is a "fall back option" for teams looking for a coach.

He's so entertaining when he's not holding court for "your team".

Lip service from everyone, I'd love to hear what they all say behind closed doors.

We were 10-22 the last 2 years, I don't understand why all 5 teams that need a HC aren't bidding on Rex?

I think most teams will be hard pressed to hire a coach coming off a 4 win season.   He'll do TV for a year or two and eventually get another HC gig.

That statement is a reach. How many 4-12 HCs that got fired less than 2 days ago, were scheduled to interview with two team with the third team showing interest as soon as it's HC spot became vacant? I'm sure those teams saw the 4-12 record of his. My guess is 'not many'.

Rex Ryan will never get another head coaching job in the NFL. He's that bad.

He's too big of a personality. They'll be some desperate team/owner that wants attention/press and will hire Rex.

True, perhaps Jacksonville or Oakland or some other small-market team would want the Circus in town but only out of desperation.

No NFL team that actually wants to win would ever tap Rex Ryan.

If you have a reliable QB, he will make sure your run is one of the best in the league. It's not the entire offense. It's just the pass offense, n most of that has to do with not finding the right QB. Half the NFL has that issue. QB sales are rare n when there is one on the market (Manning), you'll face a strong challenge.

Is there anyone here who can tell me with a straight face that if Rex had Peyton Manning in 2009 or 2010 (or any subsequent years) that Jets wouldn't have won the SB? Rex went 50-52 with the leagues worst QB n the leagues top 5 run offense along with top 3 D the entire time. It's not rocket science. QBs are hard to find n u need fair amount of luck.

You understand the jets in those years were already borrowing future cap dollars, to fit Manning's 20 mill would have been impossible. So your in essence saying that give Rex more money to spend than any other team and give him one of the top 5 qbs to ever play the game and he could win a superbowl.  Wow way to go out on a limb

Report: Bears have no interest in hiring Rex Ryan

January 3, 2015, 7:15 pm

Rex Ryan's got the bravado to rally a fan base. He's got the defensive mind to potentially solve the Bears defensive woes. He's even got family history with the Bears as his dad, Buddy Ryan, was the Bears defensive coordinator for the 1985 Super Bowl team.

So that would logically link Ryan to the Bears head coaching vacancy...right?

Apparently not.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the Bears have no interest in hiring the former Jets head coach. Ryan spent six seasons in New York, going 50-52 and making two AFC Championship Game appearances. As bad as the Jets (4-12) were last season, his defense finished sixth in the NFL in total defense. The Bears, on the other hand, finished 30th.

The other knock on Ryan is his ability to control the offense. He was scarcely involved with the offensive operations in New York, and he watched two young quarterbacks, Mark Sanchez and Geno Smith, fail to develop under his watch.

[MORE: Is Gamble the safest bet for Bears GM?]

Ryan has interviews set up with the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons and is also drawing interest from the Buffalo Bills. It's also been widely reported that Ryan would not take a defensive coordinator job if he was not hired as a head coach anywhere. Instead, he would be a TV analyst for at least a year.

Meanwhile, the Bears have already interviewed Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase. There's also potential interestin Kansas City Chiefs special teams coordinator and former Bears coach Dave Toub and the team has requested permission to interview Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, who saw his team lose to the Carolina Panthers on Saturday in the Wild Card Round. The Bears are also expected to interview former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone later this week.

Thats good for Rex because if I had the options between Kaep, Carr, Ryan and Cutler I'd pick anyone but Cutler.

Rex, like any good defensive coordinator, can take a win-now playoff team and eke out a wildcard as a make-believe head coach.

However, all the good he did in 2009 and 2010 is oblitherated by how he mismanaged his players and his roster in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. All Rex proved is that he's not a head coach, can't build a team, and that what he's best at is dismantling someone else's work and creating a loser.

You left out the fact that losing is/was now acceptable under Rex the last 4 years. gatorade baths and ^5's after a 4-12 season is proof of that. losing should be UNACCEPTABLE, period.

We gave Sanchez about 16 mil a yr I believe n eventually traded away Revis. Even with Revis, Manning could've very easily been a part of the cap.

So. No. Rex wasn't going to use a dime more than any other team. He was, however, forced upon a team that spent about 85% of its cap in 2014. That extra 20 mil? I wonder who we could have afforded?

I think the Raiders are the only team dumb enough to consider this circus clown.

Even the Raiders aren't that stupid.

Gotta love this article on how dumb Rex is:

Rex Ryan was cleaning out his locker Saturday morning as the axe is about to fall on his coaching career with the New York Jets.

New York's 3-12 record can be blamed on one major factor: Ryan's Jets are the dumbest, most poorly coached team in football: No. 32 and dead last on the Cold, Hard Football Facts Intelligence Index entering the final week of the season (entire list below).

The Cold, Hard Football Facts Intelligence Index has taught us over the last two years that winning in the NFL is a matter of brains over brawn. Smart teams consistently win games, dumb teams consistently lose games.

We witnessed a classic example that phenomenon in action last week when Ryan's very dumb Jets, No. 32 on the Intelligence Index, hosted the very smart Patriots, No. 1 on the Intelligence Index. New York out-gained New England:

307-231 in total yardage

116-85 in rushing yards

191-146 in passing yards

5.0-3.7 yards per play

The Jets won all the physical battles. But the Patriots won the war, eking out a 17-16 victory and wrapping up home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs when the Broncos tumbled against the Bengals Monday night.

New York was the better team physically; but New England was the better team mentally. The Jets did all the little things wrong and pissed away their opportunities to win the game; the Patriots did all the little things right and capitalized on their opportunities to win the game.

The Patriots converted 6 of 13 third downs (46%); the Jets 5 of 13 (38%)

The Patriots averaged 52.6 yards per punt; the Jets 47.3 yards per punt

The Patriots returned 3 punts for an average of 21.0 yards each; the Jets returned 3 punts for an average of 11.7 yards each

The Patriots returned 5 kickoffs an average of 18.2 yards; the Jets returned 3 kickoffs and average of 15.0 yards

The Patriots netted 45.6 yards per punt; the Jets netted 31.5 yards per punt

The Patriots scored 2 TDs in 4 trips to the red zone; the Jets scored 0 TDs in 3 trips to the red zone

Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski nailed his only FG attempt; Jets kicker Nick Folk hit three field goals but missed his final go-ahead attempt midway through the fourth quarter when the ball was partically blocked.

The Jets, as a result, enter Week 17 in the same place where they've spent much of the 2014 season: in last place on the Cold, Hard Football Facts Intelligence Index, the dumbest team in football. The dumb Jets are 3-12 overall and 5-9-1 against the spread.

The Patriots enter Week 17 in the same place where they've spent much of the 2014 season: in first place on the Cold, Hard Football Facts Intelligence Index, the smartest team in football. The smart Patriots are 12-3 overall and 9-6 ATS.

The Intelligence Index at at the end of the day is a reflection of how well teams are coached and how well they execute in situational football. Smart, well-coached teams like the Patriots thrive in situational football; dumb, poorly coached teams like the Jets melt down in situtational football.

Ryan, coach of the dumbest team in football, was cleaning out his locker Saturday morning as the axe is about to fall on his career in New York; Bill Belichick, coach of the smartest team in football, has his Patriots poised as the favorite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl for the sixth time in 14 seasons.

Not disagreeing, but you present an index stat and a matrix with all the teams without explaining the corresponding numbers. What do those numbers mean, what do the correspond to, how do they aggregate those into an index.

Have a hard time blaming Nick Folk for anything, he is one of the few people on the jets who did his job most every week. Someone misses a block and gets a hand on a kick is not entirely his failure, if his at all. If he hits the kick, as much as I'd like the Jets would've won, the game plays out differently and the Pats still probably find a way to win.

League sources have said that the Bears’ preference to hire a GM first remains strong. After that happens, their coaching search is expected to expand, perhaps including former Jets coach Rex Ryan, former Broncos and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan, current Chiefs and former Bears special-teams coordinator Dave Toub and others.

Apparently 3rd down conversion % is included as a measure of smarts, and not just a byproduct of having a good QB..

Welp:

Coveted Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is interviewing with the 49ers and Falcons this weekend for their head coaching openings, and, in Atlanta, his willingness to accept that position could have a significant bearing on the structure of the front office there.

According to multiple league sources, McDaniels' candidacy has been championed by general manager Thomas Dimitroff and his top assistant, Scott Pioli, both of whom worked with McDaniels in New England. Owner Arthur Blank, peppered with questions about the future of his front office during his press conference announcing the firing of coach Mike Smith, did not entirely rule out making other changes, and sources said the fate of Dimitroff and Pioli could be directly linked to how this coaching search proceeds.

McDaniels has long told confidants that it would take a perfect set of circumstances to get him to leave quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick after a difficult initial head coaching stint in Denver. While the presence of Matt Ryan in Atlanta makes that job attractive to candidates, some close to McDaniels believe there is enough behind the scenes with the Falcons to give him trepidation.

McDaniels truly values what he has in New England, from ownership to management to personnel and, after moving his young family repeatedly, has prized stability in recent years. McDaniels also met with the 49ers, who were very high on him back in 2011 and very well would have offered him the job had Jim Harbaugh not chosen them over the Dolphins and the University of Michigan (where he ended up going after this season).

The Falcons are also interviewing Rex Ryan for the head coaching candidacy -- his big persona and defensive swagger are very intriguing to Blank, sources said. The Falcons have very strong internal reports on two candidates they have been unable to talk to as of yet due to their participation in the wild card round -- Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin.
