Jets-Pats biggest point spread in 3 years

Pretty sure Bowles will have them fired up..  losing by 20+ to the divisional arch rivals is the equivalent of giving walking papers to a lot of people.  People will be playing for their livelihood and families here.

The real concern is Petty.  He might throw for 400 yards as well as five interceptions to McCourty et al, as they run a very sophisticated scheme.  This is a defense that used to befuddle Peyton Manning, and it's very tricky to diagnose and baits people into mistakes.

I would take the over.  My guess is that TB12 starts the game, runs up the score, and is replaced by Jimmy G. who will also want to put on a show.  I suspect Michael Floyd will see the field and he *could* have an impact.  Merry Christmas!

i remember starting a thread about that 26.5 point spread in the Jag/Broncos game.  Jets may not score this week for real.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-16-early-odds-jets-Cheaters-opens-as-largest-point-spread-in-three-years/

If the  Cheaters are going to cover the spread against the Jets this week, they're going to have to turn the game into a rout because oddsmakers have hit New England with the largest point spread in three years.

The Cheaters have officially opened as a 16.5 point favorite over the Jets, which is the highest point spread of the season, and the highest point spread in any NFL game since October 2013, when the  Broncos closed as a 26.5 point favorite over the Jaguars.

This is the kind of point spread you get when Vegas keeps losing money on a team, and they keep losing money on the Cheaters.

New England is 11-3 against the spread this year, making them the safest NFL bet of 2016. Of course, the ugliness of the Jets season also plays into the large point spread. Their starting quarterback ( Bryce Petty) is banged up and their backup quarterback (Ryan Fitzpatrick) throws interceptions like it's his job.

Betting a spread this big is never easy, however, history seems to favor the underdog. According  to Pro Football Reference, in the past 20 instances where a team has been favored by 16 or more points, the underdog has gone 14-5-1 against the spread.

The Jaguars of 2013 were one of the teams that ended up covering. As a 26.5 point underdog, the Jags ended up losing by "just" 16 (35-19).

The Jets-Cheaters game will mark the ninth time in the Brady-Belichick era that the Cheaters have been favored by 16 or more points. In those nine games, the Cheaters are 9-0 straight-up, but just 3-6 against the spread.

If there is one sure bet here, it's betting on the Cheaters to win. Since 1990, there have been 59 teams that have been favored by 16 or more points and those teams have gone 56-3 straight-up. The last time a team lost in this scenario came in 1995 when the 17-point underdog  Redskins beat the Cowboys 24-17.

If you take out the Cheaters game, the next biggest spread in Week 16 is just 7.5 points.

You are an embarrassment to the Jets fan base and team. Try and come up with some relevant observations that are actually facts. You sound like the liberal snowflakes in this years election.

the punt block scoop TD was a fluke source of points.

This same team pretty much lost to the Pats by 5 at home, maybe they lose by 8 or 14 but it's a long road to hoe

put it another way if somehow the Jets go up 3-0 or 7-0 on their first drive that cover is never getting there.

I bet Sheldon will be on it looking for some..:)

I thought with Bowles defensive genius the Jets were supposed to be befuddling opponents this year?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The Curious Case of Tom Brady entails putting up with him for exactly 16 more years. Yes, the best quarterback to walk the Earth will be inflicting pain on opponents for that long.

Brady is the NFL’s Benjamin Button, an age-reversing force that gets younger by the day. He’s defying science one scoop of avocado ice cream at a time. He’s an enigma with a square jaw. His has a proceeding hairline.

“It seems like he’s getting better with age,” Jets defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers said in the run-up to Saturday’s game in Foxborough. “It’s kind of interesting.”

That’s the understatement of the millennium.

The 39-year-old Brady is playing at a higher level today than when he was in his 20s. He’s transformed his body into an unbreakable fortress.

“I’m a f-----ing machine!” Brady once told Comcast Sportsnet New England’s Tom Curran.

Not Released (NR)

He is getting younger by the minute. As his opponents age like normal humans, he’s turning back the clock.

So, let’s do the math.

Brady entered the NFL in 2000 at age 23. In the year 2021, he’ll be playing like a 34-year-old again even though he’ll chronologically be 44. (He threw for 5,235 yards when he was 34 in 2011).

In the year 2025, he’ll be playing like a 30-year-old again even though he’ll chronologically be 50. (He threw for 50 touchdowns when he was 30 in 2007).

“You don’t marvel at it. You kind of get used to it,” Todd Bowles said of Brady’s ability to excel so deep into his career. “It’s a credit to him and his training and how he takes care of his body and his love for the game and how he always studies. There are few players that come by in a lifetime that do those types of things every decade. He’s one of them.”

They are going to kill us. Brady will try and embarrass us. The D showed their soft side when they didn't pop him when they could last time. Brady will show no mercy in kind.

you would think that after the D letting him go, he would be more gentle...

Im a realist and again just posting a news article. Do you have any idea that news articles like the one i posted exist on the internet.

Do you realize I don't write them I just post them.

You seem to have a reading skills comprehension issue.

New England is the elite team in the AFC no denying this its a fact.

Trolling is what you do best.

The Jets tend to show up for these games, even when they're out of it and already planning their winter golf trips...

But this year? Eh... The only reason I'd give the Jets a shot at covering this spread is because they're giving more and more snaps to these young and hungry players who really want to make an impression and become part of the plan going forward for this team... But being young and hungry doesn't translate to actually being good... So that only gets them so far... But still, if they all come to play they might surprise some of us.

And the state of the offensive line is just pitiful. That's going to hurt, unless Shell and a couple others really show up.

Jets are now +17. I'm on Green and just hope that Fitz and Bowles are men of their word and are able to prepare Petty and the OL for Cheaters defence.....

Money stilling rolling in on NE. Not certain Jets will cover but IMO definitely value at +17 or better.

Petty looked good in hurry up offence. Hopefully Jets can put a few lumps of coal in the Xmas stockings of all the Cheaters homers.
