This is the scenario on draft night...

This is how the first 5 picks go down.  Who are you picking and why?  This scenario here is insane because I honestly don't know who I would pick at all.  Choose to build the offense up then go with Howard or maybe Trubisky.  Want to solidify the defense then which route do you take?  Adams who could potential be a stud from day one back there?  Lattimore?  Who has that glaring hammy injury, but what if it went away and didn't really bother him?  Thomas?  I wouldn't personally like the pick but you could put this kid anywhere along the line even OLB which is a need.

It'd be hard press for them to blow it if this were the scenario.  Almost all these guys bring something to the table here.

this list shows why it would be great for the jets to trade down.

In that scenario, its either Jamal Adams, Trubisky, or trade down.

All three picks help the franchise in different ways.

I find it interesting on many people when commenting on the draft talk about picking for offense, picking for defense, etc.  No GM worth their salt would do that.  At the top of the first round, they should pick, within reason, the best player that fits in their system.

For this pick, Jamal Adams is clearly the best player and most likely star.  OJ Howard is a close second, but some question his NFL game.  Adams just ran a 4.3something.  He is a football player.  He is going to be a star, definteily.

Trubisky is obviously a potential starting QB. There is a different standard for those.  Adams is more likely to be an NFL star, but the Jets could chose to add another QB body there.  I don't know whether that pick is in Macc's DNA.

I don't believe this scenario.  I think Adams is picked, and Watson is not.

I just don't understand all the love that Trubisky, and Watson are getting.

Trubisky has played 13 games, and would have the 3rd strongest arm on the team behind Hack and Petty, Watson can run, but has no ball velocity at all.  Don't get it.

I just don't understand all the love that Trubisky, and Watson are getting.

Trubisky has played 13 games, and would have the 3rd strongest arm on the team behind Hack and Petty, Watson can run, but has no ball velocity at all.  Don't get it.

I can't see the Jets brining in Watson's weak arm w/ the NY winds.  As for Trubisky, he definitely looks the part but I have no idea if he can read defenses, play under pressure (he had some piece-of-cake plays in his youtube highlight reel), or take snaps from under center.  Same with Mahomes btw.  If we draft either Trubisky or Mahomes, I would think they'd need time to adjust their game.  Are we really going to groom another young QB with so much inexperience already on the roster?  Basically it would be McCown and 3 almost complete question marks.

If thats the way it goes I trade it. Easier said than done though. I don't see the Niners taking Watson at #2 overall. Hard to pass up all that talent in other area's to take him that early. I would seriously consider Howard but have reservations taking him at 6. The clear choice at this point in time is to work hard to trade out of it and acquire another pick in the second or 3rd round. Hell I even trade Richardson if possible for a pick. Like I said earlier easier said than done.

And also why it is going to be very difficult to trade down even though they have publicly stated they want to

That's what I'm afraid of.  Other teams realizing how many talented players there are in this draft.  Who would want to give up picks???  Hopefully someone wanting a QB bad enough.

At the end of the day I would eventually pick Adams I think.  OJ Howard is a very very tempting pick though.  It would be either Howard or Adams for me.  Both would do so much for their respective units

Same here.  We have two young QBs on the roster who I feel we have to go with this season and see what they have.  I really feel Hackenberg is going to surprise everyone.

So you pass up a QB in the draft who is better than what we have?

Tell me that the reason you fell this way doesn't have anything to do with who's probably available next april ?

That's questionable.  Keep in mind Hackenberg was supposed to be red-shirted this year no matter what.  No one knows what this kid is going to do this season.  And yes I easily pass up on QBs to select potential All Pro players.  If they were to pick Trubisky at #6 they're passing up on at the very least players like Hooker and Howard and Williams and maybe Fournette and maybe Adams.  I don't know if I'm okay with that without knowing what we have in Petty and Hackenberg.  Give whoever wins out the battle in camp a season to see what they can do.  If they both suck it up then go with the QB in 2018 knowing for sure that these guys already on the roster are not the answer.  We can't keep passing up on talent to keep fishing for a QB.  If there's not one worthy of a top pick then load your team up with talent around the future QB.

I actually believe that in large part QBs are born not made.   In large part success is based on how a QBs brain fires, assesses the field, and drives his body to perform.  Players can practice all day and never be a good nfl QB.  It is a gift.  If he can also throw, he is in business.

Pennington had it, just not the body   He was functional   Testaverde may have been the exception   He got it years later.   Brady, Favre, Rodgers have it

So if Trubisky has got "it," it does not matter how many games he played in college.   He needs more practice, but he is calling baloney on the NFL and daring someone to draft  and coach him.   He thinks he has NFL innate skills.

I agree with him.

Myself, i'd even take serious under-value for the 6 to drop

example trade 6 (1600 pts ) with Houston for 25 (720 pts), 57 ( 330 pts ) , & 89 (145 pts)

Or

trade 6 (1600 pts) with NO for the 11 (1250 pts) and the 76 (210 pts)

if I couldn't even get a deal in that range I still prob go Howard ... ( I am not upset with Adams ... He won't be there though)

I'm not sure either Trubisky or Watson is proven to be better then what we have.

We have an old man, an injury prone one read QB and a QB who skips 10 yd warm up throws.   Watson would be an improvement.  But we will draft defense and set ourselves back another 2 years.

If trade down is not an option

Jamal Adams. Pencil him in at Safety and forget about it for a few years. Very solid tackler, has good ball skills and is a leader from the secondary.

Choice B for me is Howard. Seems like a good bet to be a difference maker in the NFL.

But if Adams is there at 6, and i cant trade down. I take him and don't second guess it.

Of ALL the QB's who have thrown at the combine since 2008 only 5 have thrown under 50 MPH, Watson is one of them

Yup.....

There is NO way I would risk the #6 pick on Mitch Trubinsky.  He just is flat out not worth that pick.

If we traded down into the low #20's and he was still there, absolutely.  We draft a QB at 6 who, as it has been suggested by many draft pundits have suggested, should NOT see the field for a 1-2 years, then we have wasted the opportunity to draft a player that an offense/defense can be built/schemed around.

In that scenario I would take  Adams, unless Mac's alleged man crush on Mitchell is true than he is the pick the Jets would make. I don't trust one year starters especially that high.  I would hope some team would want to move up for Adams or another player (definitely not getting my hopes up for that). I still think teams in the top of the draft will take a QB high. Watson' 49 mph speedball is definitely concerning, I like Watson but that is as scary stat.
