Congratulations on a long career...Hopefully your retirement will be fulfilling... most people who criticize pension earners don't understand that for most of their career their yearly salary is not astronomical... also most pension earners work in a career which requires them to work holidays & weekends... again I thank you for your service...  Enjoy your retirement & God Bless.

As I said in my post it’s not the employees fault.  It’s the politicians.

It's Mostly Always the politicians that create the mess... that's why there should be Term Limits... & they shouldn't get Healthcare for Life for being in office 1 Term.... the worker shouldn't be mentioned, but that's what's been going on here.

Beautiful. Thank you for your service. I’m a Parks junkie and always appreciate you guys.

Don't wait to come out west. The parks on this side are on another level. Just got back from Death Valley a few days ago and am heading up to Kings Canyon in another couple weeks. This summer we have a RV trip planned to head up to Yellowstone, Grand Teton, and Salmon-Challis.

You could spend an entire year out in Cali exploring the National Forests in and around the Eastern Sierras (Sequoia and Yosemite too) and still not get to everything. Too epic.

He had it all and threw it away. Sad story. Whether you liked him or hated him, he was a very popular radio host.

Carton was “popular” because he had a dream job hosting drive time morning commute shift of the country’s biggest sports station

He tripled Imus’s ratings? So what Imus got crappy ratings because his show was 4.5 hours of him mumbling nonsensically about random politicians and not talking sports

Gio is way funnier than Carton and doesn’t try nearly as hard

You butt fumbled me when I posted that only L E get pensions based on final year salary in NYSERS.

Because they don't... that all depends on what Tier you were hired under... their are 6 different Tiers in the NYSERS & 5 in the NYSPFRS..... Only Tier 1 was granted that provision & to be Tier 1 you had to be hired before 7/01,/73.... not too many people can say that today... If you were one of those Happy Retirement Pops.  :)

Article 14 is where they receive last year, FAS. All muni's have it, because of fear of the PBA.  BTW I was not a PO, but I did work for the SCPD.      OK little boy?

I'm with you. We fly to Las Vegas a lot then hit the NP from there. Bryce, Zion, DV, and the Grand canyon all doable day trips from LV. Plus there Nevada State Park Valley of Fire plus Red Rock Canyon.

Only Tier 1 members are afforded that like I stated above... the rest of the Tier members are based on a best 36 mos basis... but it doesn't really matter because that provision is afforded to FDNY members as well not just police as you stated but you can continue thinking that way,

Sad for any family he has living in that house, yes.  Sad for him, no.  If he lost the house because he blew the money at the track  or casino, then I'd be sad for him.  If you intentionally rip off people for millions to make it up, then I'm not.

I wouldn't... if he's dumb enough to gamble away his house at the track or casino... then he Deserves the result.

Speaking from the point of view of someone younger who is only about a decade into their career - retirement plans/pensions like that are hard to come by these days.

Good for you man! Enjoy your retirement! ?

Thank you, yes it is a completely different system now........I was locked into the old CSRS system so i still get the defined benefit pension, around 1985 or so they went to a small pension plus a 401K type where the Government would match up to i believe 10% of your contribution and also SS...........It could still be a decent plan if you can contribute the Maximum amount for your career and not have to borrow from it...........Problem for many employees now is if you are not a supervisor or in a top white collar job the pay is not great........Many of the guys i worked with top out at 55-60 K and find it difficult to build up their thrift to where it would be needed in retirement..........Like you stated not many places provide the defined benefit pension anymore..........Best of luck to you!

I have been a federal employee for 39 years and will be retiring in 2 years. I started in CSRS and after 7 years switched to FERS (a questionable decision, but I had my reasons at the time). My retirement will be partially CSRS and partially FERS. Between them, SSI and the money in the TSP (the 401 K), I will get about the same as if I had stayed in CSRS... BUT... I had to contribute a much larger portion of my pay than you, in order to plus up the TSP enough to be able to do that. BTW, the government matches 5%... not 10% (I wish). Fortunately for me, my job is high paying, because between FERS, SSI and TSP, I contribute about 21% of my gross pay towards my retirement.

Thanks for the correction, was not sure what the Government matched.........I remember when they came out with FERS that they gave us the option of switching from CSRS and weighed the options and stayed with it.........Figured the Government was not doing it to benefit me!....lol..........Also knowing my salary was probably not going to be top dollar the defined benefit would work for me..........I will have enough time in SS if i get a part time job for a couple of years but that pretty much is zeroed out by the CSRS offset rules..........I still contributed to the thrift but mostly the last 10 years of my career when i had a little extra money to do it...........Sounds like you got it right, congrats on your career, btw i was pleasantly surprised at the fast processing of my pension through OPM and the people who did mine!
