Where were the hot routes

Sam was getting mauled all night. Why were there no hot receivers? Sam was throwing the ball down field the whole game.

Demaryus Thomas has a large catch radius.  Use it.

Darnold hit him right in the hands on about the 2nd play from scrimmage and Thomas dropped it. It was only 1 play but it was an absolute killer and you could feel the wind disappear from the sails at that point....
 

DT makes a fairly routine grab there  and we get a big play and first down in decent field position and maybe that first possession goes differently....he had to make that catch

that said agree with the point generally about how abysmally poor we are. It;s so frustrating seeing every other team in the league execute the simple plays while we can’t do even the very basics....dreadful

Ask Robbie Anderson who never turned around on a few Ints by Darnold, he didn't even know the ball was thrown as if Gilmore was the WR and Robbie was impersonating our CB's

The Pats basically stuffed everyone in the box and said we are blitzing, you cant run on our crowded box and you won’t have time to throw deep. They were right. The DT drop was huge because plays like that open up the defense. Throwing slants on that type of d is very tough because the throwing lanes aren’t there. This is what happens when a defense has literally no fear of your passing game and you can’t prove them wrong early. We don’t have the WRs to beat press coverage, we don’t have the line to give time. This was a disaster on all levels. Darnold will take the blame, which is fine, but this was as much on personnel as it was coaching and QB

They weren't  pressing. The DB's were like 5 yards off the LOS on every play. They can call slants, drags, screens whatever short passing route you want on that.

None of the WRs competed for balls. They became spectators while DBs pursued the ball. On top of that the DT drop appeared to be the one and only play where one of them beat his man coverage and was open.

he was trying.  i think dt had the highest number of targets.  but thomas missed a wide open catch and then was fronted the whole game by a db.  and quick slants work if there are passing lanes, the receivers break open, and if the rush is at least chipped and slowed down.  a couple of times, collins was untouched and forced darnold to throw off his back foot.  and then hightower blew up bell on one of those quick passes outside.  the patsies took away those quick passes and still managed a pass rush.  maybe some play action or a moving pocket would've worked.  or maybe leaving the back in to pick up the rusher would've helped.

Maybe we should have had Vince Vaughn play yesterday. He seemed to be able to handle a blitz better than Sam.

Robby Anderson ran routes like Owen Wilson just having a good time out there not paying attention to what was happening to the quarterback.

Vince Vaughn kind of look exactly like Sam Darnold.

Bradley Cooper now that's the guy they need to sign. Forget Mosley hand this defense over to Cooper and they're all set.

Gase will not move from his system. And he doesn’t have the player personnel to execute it. A decent coach will change the Offense to adapt to what the Defense is showing him. Doing the same thing every week expecting different results. So we need a new line and better receivers. So do most other teams in the NFL. But they don’t put out a sh*t show product the Jets do every week aside from the Cowboy game.

Do the open tight end and open Jamison Crowder count as hot routes or is their openness on short routes not count?

Gase came into this game looking to make big plays and big splashes but didn't stop to think those plays take time to develop which you don't have when you don't have an offensive line. Shame on him for leaving Darnold in the game after Darnold told him he was seeing ghosts. At that point when the game is already over you put your backup in and let him get killed instead of your starter. Sometimes there is more to learn from the bench than from behind center.

Pretty interesting breakdown of two of the turnovers here. The line is bad and the playcalling may be worse.

A screen pass would have been refreshing. The one screen they ran to Thomas gained 5 yards.
