Theory on What Went Down

Gen X Jet

So it seems as if all of this started with Jamal:

1) his acolytes signal to Dallas last night he wants to come home.

2) Dallas kicks the tires with the Jets late today (likely lowballing and telling them that their player wants to be moved with the hope that they can use a short time frame against the Jets)

3) Jets verify the report with Jamal's people

3) Jets try to get Baltimore involved (JD's old haunt) but not enough horse to get Dallas up (or more likely Dallas knew the Jets were bluffing since they held the cards knowing Jamal signaled to them he wanted to go to them).

Dallas was never offering two 1's.  They likely offered significantly less knowing they had the leverage of an unhappy Jets player who they know could ruin a locker room with his mouth.  Jets will now never realize full trade potential with this malcontent calling the shots.

I think it's a fair bet that JA instigated all of this and the Jets are the ones that end up looking stupid. Round and round

Rumor was a Dallas exec scoffed at even the idea of their (likely) bottom-half 1st and 3rd. Never mind 1st & 2nd, and certainly nowhere near a pair of 1sts.

This was a win-now team that was desperate for immediate help at just the position/skillset of one Jamal Adams. Plus they'd have him for the rest of this year for half the league minimum, then next year for like $3.5MM, and the year after that for ~$10MM (and because it's Dallas, who backloads & then renegotiates every deal to backload further), then a low cap number in 2022. He'd be a good match for them while they're trying to lock up Dak for ~$35MM/year.

So what we have are Jets fans scoffing at picks not one NFL team even considered ponying up. He's not even a letdown draft pick to many/most Jets fans, and there's no way we could sniff at getting back what he cost 3 drafts earlier.

Jets were smart here.  They had a value on adams and did not get that in return.  Now teams know that the jets mean business.

Other teams tried to take advantage of a 1st time gm.  We held our ground and that will benefit us for future years down the line.  Great move not making any deals today.  We are not get pushed around.  You will give us what we want or go away.

Good post. That's why they call these things negotiations. Buyers and sellers each have a price. You can't reach a deal, so be it. You get the reputation of caving, you're doomed. Sometimes the best deals are the ones you don't make.

Or just other teams offered up the most they're willing to part with for this player, and the Jets decided it wasn't enough.

For all you know Dallas didn't even offer up their 2020 1st round pick. And this was a win-now team that wanted him more than anyone else (other than the Jets, it would seem).

The picture you paint is that the most-interested team didn't want him unless they were getting him for what you consider a heist. Paying up what you perceive his actual value to be, which is much less than he cost originally, was never a consideration by any team. If they truly wanted him for what he's (allegedly) truly worth, they'd have made a last-minute offer like they did a year ago for Cooper.

A few people are reporting the Jets turned down the Cowboys offer of a 1st round pick.

1. Jamal thinks he’s better than he is and has no sense of personal accountability, so he wants to go to a team that’s on national TV more where he’d be allowed to run around and gesticulate like a clown while the offense scores 30 points.

2. He tells Josina Anderson that he wants to play for the Cowboys and the news gets around.

3. The Cowboys call up Joe Douglas and say, “I don’t know. A one? That seems fair.”

4. Douglas says he needs more because that one is guaranteed to be a late-twenties pick and that’s be hard to sell to the fanbase.

5. Dallas says, “nah.”

only problem here it was Ryan Clark that said Jamal wants to play for cowboys . So that kinda hurts your whole jamal talking directly to josina narrative.

Doesn't say which year (though it's likely 2020). Early reports are often later found wrong once details come out.

One would think they tried to get a mid-round pick thrown in if the 1st round pick was too low a slot when the time came, and Dallas still wasn't interested.

But the Jets, who are desperate at a dozen more-important positions Dallas & others have covered, value him more than a team that might actually be a box safety away. A box safety from down there, who would badly want to play there instead of here.

Jamal texts a lot of people. Recall that after Williams benched him, Jamal personally texted a bunch of national beat reporters to give them a quote.

Joe D just took a HUGE dump all over the rabid Jamal haters..  apparently someone didn't tell him you could replace him with a 3rd round pick no problem.

This thread will be 10 pages of guys trying to rationalize why Jamal isn't a premier NFL player rather than see the obvious..  HE IS..  deal with it.  And it will take more than 1 measly low end 1st round pick to get him.

JerRah can try again draft night with a REAL offer if he wants the best S in the game.

Draft a safety at six.

Safety goes on to All Pro and Pro Bowl status.

Attempt to trade safety, on a rookie contract, two years later and find out you can’t even get anything more than pick #26 back.

All the evidence you need to know what a bad pick that was and how the league values that position. What a disgrace.

And Jamal is worth more than the number 1 they offered. He has perform like the top 10 pick he was and if not garnishing more than a numer 1 that is likely in the 15-25 range is not worth trading. A number 1 in that range plus a 2nd rounder may have been worth it only to counter balance what this team was likely strategizing which was using the assets in areas like Oline, WR, etc. on offense where we skimped on for all the high draft picks on D in the recent past. That is also likely why we traded only a defender and nobody on O. Quite honestly from what I have seen, the DE Phillips who came to us as UDFA has made more impact/plays than Leo. So, the deal for Leo likely a high 3rd this year and next year possibly a pretty high 5th or 4th rounder if they resign him(assume Giants don't drastically improve this and next year) was worth it plus we save any $ we would have spent on him. We are still good at Dline with Phillips, QW/Mclendon, and Anderson. We need to now start if we ever can improving the OLB Edge rushing and CB. We should start at CB with the 6th rounder we have to make a decision on by getting him in there  replacing the Leo rister spot to see if he has anything and if so can stay healthy. We have 9 games to find that out even if he doesn't start. He should get decent playing time since our start CBs would barely be backups on any other NFL team.

The “best safety in the game” wasn’t worth a throw-in late third round pick to Jer-Rah, and Jer-Rah thinks he can win a Super Bowl three months from now

You can scream your nonsense from your bully pulpit till the cows come home but the fact of the matter is your Ilk was just exposed and your agenda has been shown to be a sham perpetuated by the feeble-minded.

Sit back and take solace knowing we have another GM and FO who understand value.  Jamal will be a catalyst for the resurgence whether it be this year or next.

A late 1 next year now is worth a round less than a late 1 in April 2020
