Loved this description of the Jets OC search that I thought it deserved some attention.

This is absolutely baffling.  You've got a top 5 defense and in looking for a new OC, you're interviewing fifty guys who have never held the position before.

What's with all the screwing around?

well what do you expect?  Even those here who wear the greenest of green-tinted lenses know the owner is an absolute moron when it comes to taking care of the team he owns. Bad decision after bad decision after bad decision. Non stop. Woody Johnson is really and literally an idiot when it comes to hiring for this team.

Woody is an idiot for hiring JD and Saleh, but the fact that all we're looking at is newbie OCs has nothing to do with Woody and everything to do with Robert Saleh. 

If left to Woody, we would be hiring a veteran OC that's a re-tread. 

I think most people can more or less agree Woody wants Zach to ultimately be the answer, and him pushing a OC with no experience to make that happen doesnt make sense.

Totally confident executive VP of what not , Hymie Whatshisname,  will, like the wunderkind he is, solve all these problems. This is the kind of out of the box thinking and leadership that leads to great decisions. And is probably insisting all these candidates swear on a stack of religious books that they can fix what is wrong with Zach Wilson. Also fully plausible with this regime looking at unemployment,  if they don't roughly 1 year from now, candidates are lining up for this job. 

Nah, looks like they were better off keeping Lafleur.

Definitely agree with that, but ultimately that isnt changing so I dont dwell on that one. 

The people we can dwell on are JD and Saleh.

Reality is if Saleh/Douglas don't turn things around this year, they're getting fired. So why do they expect some brilliant guy off he street would be any better or be on the same page staring down the barrel at imminent unemployment. Lafleur was their guy. Grant you, the OC always catches slings and arrows and poop flinging from fans. If they're gonna insist on pretending Wilson is not a disaster, merely setting up themselves for the ax.

Perhaps it’s time to consider that Saleh and Douglas were never getting their respective jobs elsewhere and are agreeable minions to the Johnson’s and their army of lawyers. Their contracts are both guaranteed. I really don’t know what else it could be. A first time OC is obviously the wrong move with the way the staff is constructed.

i never understood the MLF hate. He's a good coach. 

the SF zone scheme system is pretty damn great when you run it right. CMC seems to have no trouble finding room to run, neither did Breece. They need a better TE (Kittle-level) but the system fails when there's no QB to run it. It also doesn't work when the OL stinks. 

JD stacked the QB room with Zach and guys who weren't a threat to Zach. JD built this OL that fell apart.

If they had even slightly better QB play we'd be talking about their first playoff appearance in over a decade. Probably an away loss to BUF, but still. That's how programs get built.

instead it's like the Zach scholarship program. They have all their faith in this dude who is terrible. Fans of every other team know it. Zach has no trade value, he's way overpaid for a QB2, the whole thing is ridiculous 

Getting rid of MLF buys Zach 2 more years, 1 to learn the new system.

Really, this is all Woody will hire. Woody won't hire anyone who will tell him to go F himself, and this is what we get. We blame the symptoms, and not the problems, but until the problem is fixed, nothing will ever change no matter how many QB's we get rid of

Adam Gase was not a good coach, by any standard - his OC Dowell loggains was also terrible. Gregg Williams was actually decent as a DC. Terrible human being but got the most of the players. 

seriously like I think Gase had a substance abuse problem or other mental illness. He was super bad. 

still, these idiots managed 7 wins in their first year, on the strength of the players.

Three years ago the Jets "started over" with JD and Saleh and where are we? 7 wins. 

 

And who was the OC when Peyton Manning was calling his own plays at the line? Adam Gase.

Robert Saleh sets the tone. Everyone who walks in the building feeds off of that energy. It seems cheerleader and rah-rah but someone has to do it. He also controls the defense, and the Jets had an excellent defense. The players play hard for Saleh, even if it doesn't show up in the boxscore.

MLF got Mike White's jersey into Canton I keep coming back to that amazing fact. it's not really MLF's fault that Zach sucks. He's the scapegoat. MLF was fired for not believing in Zach. We have that in common. Prediction: MLF will have like a 4 decade career ala Pete Carroll we will be watching that dude succeed for years to come. People who say MLF should have called more runs are in denial about how bad Zach was. 

Adam Gase I don't think contributed anything to the team other than a paranoid weird vibe. Loggains flat out mismanaged the offense. Gregg WIlliams turned that Jamal Adams era loosey goosey unit into killers.

This is the primary reason I was against firing LaFluer. There is no backup plan. The owner and the fans bagged their pound of flesh, now what? They have no ****ing idea. But I’m sure the plan will be to hire another rookie rookie OC and refuse to let him learn on the job. If anything is SOJ, it’s that.
