While Dan Orlovsky and Daniel Jeremiah were right, Zach Wilson played well
with what he was dealing with:

When you re-watch the film, without emotion, it's stunning the amount
of breakdowns that were happening around Wilson all game:

- Three different centers and three different RG which made the front
of the pocket "leaky".  Multiple times Wilson stayed in the pocket,
picked out the correct receiver, tried to step into throws and couldn't

- There were multiple route mistakes by receivers.  On one blitz Wilson
threw correctly to Xavier Gipson but instead of him staying "hot" and
"sitting down" on his route he kept running which led to an incompletion.
Breece Hall caused an incompletion when he ran his man into a wide open
Garrett Wilson route down the sideline

- Multiple drops by Allen Lazard and a huge drop by Hall when he had
three steps on the LB and no one in front of him.  It could've been 
another 50+ yard TD

Then to execute a game tying drive after dealing with those issues was
impressive.  After the team reviewed the tape I would think Wilson has
earned a ton of respect in the locker room.  A total 180 from the NE
fiasco of last year

I agree completely.... It's amazing .. I'm starting to think the stink of this franchise can ruin anybody.

He did not play stellar ball .. but it was avg with a good ending.

OLine is decimated .. I fear that "the end is nigh"

The mental gymnastics with this kid is crazy. I don’t know what I think anymore honestly. He looked like sh*t those whole game in my eyes. Then he throws a laser on the run to set up the game tying FG. The throw was a thing of beauty. Now days later everyone giving him a pass for what I thought my eyes saw. 
 

I’ve said it before, but I really hate his god given arm talent , becuase it’s there and it’s amazing, unfortunately that’s the only thing he’s got a QB needs that’s even remotely adequate

I have watched the game 3 times and Wilson threw about 2 or 3 “bad” balls, didn’t hit the potentially open WR about another 2, held onto the ball too long multiple times and the stupid stupid sack on 4th Down Was OUTRAGEOUS!!!!

However, with that said, Zach wasn’t horrible.

Simple, Zach was under crazy stress all game and the defense of the Giants was something I was worried about waaaaay before the game.  

And the OL was being terrorized out there and the injuries to centers didn’t just “happen” they were caused in part due to bad technique against a crazy bull rush.

I wouldn’t say Zach was great, no way, but the hang em crowd isn’t right either….

Zach is getting better and I will say it again no NFL QB is going to perform well with a porous OL for long…

So how would Aaron Rodgers do in this offense as currently constructed? He would get killed back there - that's how! Because of the status of our O-line we need a mobile QB back there. Rodgers is no longer mobile. Now he might compensate by throwing quick passes but I see Rodgers getting highly frustrated. Maybe by the time he comes back the Jets have figured some things out and have some stability back there. We can only hope!

I’ve never seen Zach stand in the pocket and deliver like this. It was a drop but the pocket work was immaculate here. He did this throughout the game on Sunday.

No running backwards like a high school QB, just stand and deliver.

Heard an interview with Orlovsky where the interviewer was breaking his balls about always being so positive about quarterbacks, no matter how bad, and Orlovsky admitted it’s mostly shtick intended to produce viral clips in those media markets. Similar to Baldinger

i don't see it .. the OL is in shambles as I stated in July ... it needs another year or two of dedicated attention. Becton is the only happy development there so far.

I do find it very entertaining that the guys who dislike Zach like to never bring up how he has a make shift OL and the play calling hasn’t been good either. And that outside that DAL game where we had to play catch-up… has next to never turned the ball over. The haters will say he fumbled twice this last week. Every Qab in the league fumbled when their LT lets a guy free and they hit you freely. And his next one was the 1st snap with a PS C that obviously ZW has never played with.

KRL, I was going off in the game day thread. You have these casual fans constantly blaming Wilson and they couldn’t be more wrong. 

He had zero running game and a sh*tty performance for an offensive line yet he’s still supposed to have “pocket presence.”

These casual fans need to be ignored. They don’t know sh*t about football. On Sunday, in sh*tty weather, we had horrid offensive line play, horrid running game, and horrid x2 playcalling…

 

But Zach Wilson sucks and he has no pocket awareness. It’s just ridiculous.

Remember when two starting OL were out for KC in the Super Bowl, and Patrick Mahomes, for the first time, looked average?  

Now, a back-up QB is supposed to play like him when he is on his third center of the game, his second RG, and a back-up RT.  Truly unbelievable how people cannot fathom this.

That being said, there is nothing you can do.  The fact the players are bigger, they are faster, and artificial turf sucks, injuries are going to be a part of the game.  

This article states that after nine weeks of the season, there are 234 on long term IR.  234.  The injuries are starting to pile up.  You can see flag-football coming REAL soon.

Back in the ancient times of the 80s ... you had a handful of thoroughbred athletes that got injured when i pebble was misplaced into their running lane.  Now, sadly,  every athlete is being trained up to resemble this kind of unicorn physically.  You make a slight miscalculation in a Lamborghini going 200 MPH you can be assured the outcome will be far worse than a Mustang goin 70.

He has been playing well this season. It’s truly a big leap from last year. Does that mean he is the future or should be the QB1 of this team post-Rodgers? I am not there yet. Need to see more.
 

It’s hard to overcome a bad first impression. When someone forms an opinion about something, it can be very difficult to change his mind. I am trying to keep an open mind about Wilson.

I was guilty of jumping to conclusions too - it’s why we should wait a day before destroying a guy.

We all do ... your perspective is completely reasonable.  He was terrible last year ... that stench has been tattooed onto @T0mShane @Jetsfan80 @jgb ... these are humans that all have capable brains ... It is just that the memory is too close for them to see the path forward with clarity and reason.  Zach has a LOT to prove ... and it doesn't matter who the OC, or HC is .. fact of the matter is that he drew the short straw on draft day and became this franchises QB.   It is up to him to make it work or be cast into oblivion in February.

Improvement is evident ... but he is a long way form being a top 15 QB.

My main issue with Zach in the giants game was he took sacks that he didn’t need to take, if he had played the way he did sans the needless sacks I would feel better about him, but I agree with many of your observations.

I was at the game. You can’t excuse some of those sacks he took. On 3 of them he had a chance to throw the ball away and didn’t.
