Has a Jets GM had a worse year in the past 30 years or so than Joe Douglas?

We'll probably have to wait and see what actually happens before we know if it was a "wasted" pick or not.

If you tag him and he plays well next season then he may get a long-term deal.

If you let him walk you may get another player with a high comp pick depending on how much his new team is paying him which means it may not be a total loss.

If he does stay heathy the rest of the way and they don't retain him it tells us they just don't like his character and/or have concerns the weight issues will return.

Cimini thinks they’re going to let Becton walk, and that it’ll be a mutual parting of ways. The Packers will likely want to dump Bakhtiari next offseason because he’s a perpetually injured loon who wants to dictate when he can practice, so the Jets will pick him up for 2/$25mm  and spend the tenth overall on one of the big RT’s in this draft.

Joe Douglas made 3 mistakes.  The first one was working for Woody.  Second hiring Saleh.  Third drafting Zach.   Other than those mistakes he has generally put together a roster that can compete without an O that can score points.

JD can evaluate several positions pretty well.  Qb is not one of them.

Do you think the following moves were good?

Alan Lazard 4 years at 11 million a year?

Randall Cobb as our starting slot WR?

Billy Turner anywhere on the oline?

Dalvin Cook signed for big dollars?

Tim Boyle as our backup QB?

Nathanial Hackett as our OC?

Moved down in the 1st round so we missed out on the last viable OT in the draft?

Traded a 2nd rounder last draft and another 2nd rounder this coming year?

Paying a QB massive money for not playing?

All of those things are a result of us going after Aaron Rodgers, all of them.

It was not a matter of JUST getting Rodgers, the front office and coaches made a LOT of big moves to the franchise to get Rodgers, so yes they sold their soul to get him and he got hurt after 4 snaps and the team is stuck with all the rest.

Now if Rodgers comes back for a couple more years, plays outstanding and the jets are contenders?  Yeah worth it.

But this was not a one off we got a QB situation and it was a huge gamble with a big possible downside.

Lol half the sh*t you named just isn’t even true man. Cobb was supposed to be a #5 or 6. Boyle was a #3 on a team that had no intention of carrying 3 QBs. Cook signed for “big” dollars?  First off it’s 1 year, and I’d hardly call it “big”. Plus at least 3/4 of the fanbase were all for it. People even seemed to like Turner as a depth move.

Moving down was an unfortunate necessity in a move that everyone wanted, and half the fanbase didn’t even give a **** about what we paid. I remember being called a “future obsessed fan who cares more about draft picks than wins” when I suggested waiting Green Bay out. At the end of the day though, unless we believe the video they put out was all propaganda bullsh*t, they wouldn’t have even taken Jones if he was there.

Not that it matters since Max Mitchell essentially just shut down arguably the best pass rusher in the game and we still lost. This teams one major mistake is and continues to be putting recovering their 2nd overall investment over winning games. Whether that’s on JD, Woody or Rodgers, it’s blatantly obvious from watching the games. You’re just not going to win football games with bottom of the barrel QB play.

Still doesn’t change what I responded to. Even if we overpaid, at the end of the day it’s two 2nd rounders. Let’s relax a bit with the consequences of what losing two 2nds means for this team.

I'm glad you're happy with the team and its make up.  More power to you.   Maybe we can start heading to the draft forum to praise up Douglas.

Douglas will be gone at the conclusion of 2024

  • This is the right answer.  But there are only two answers.
  • One, is to let JD go with one year left on his contract, and someone else needs a long term contract to make the right decisions for the Jets in terms of QB, etc. in the draft.
  • The other is to acknowledge JD’s positives and potential and give him an extension.
  • If JD gets fired, he will not be shot into the sun like Maccagnan.  People will know that he was working with Woody’s scouts and trainers, Woody wanted blonde ZW to be his QB, and Woody wanted Aaron Rodgers.  JD did the best he could.   JD will get another job.
  • Saleh sticks around, maybe on his lame duck contract year, to oversee the AR8 plan with Nate Hackett.   I think Saleh knew what to do, but he got Jetted.  He knew he needed offensive support, and hired Greg Knapp and a young innovative mind in MLF.  He knew he was better off with Darnold than ZW (true, Darnold is better than ZW).   He will tell that story to his future employer-he will get another HC job.

JD made many blunders this season, but you could narrow it down to just two unforgiveable reasons.

Number 2 is not having a better solution than Duane Brown at LT to start the season. If we had a legitimate left tackle to start the season, Duane Brown goes on the PUP and comes back midseason. A healthy Duane Brown as your depth LT is not the worst thing in the world.

Number 1 is not having a legitimate back up QB on the roster during training camp. Nothing makes a bad offensive line worse than an awful QB. A Gardner Minshew type back up would still have this team "in the hunt."
