Russini and Rosenblatt: 2023 Jets a dysfunctional mess; Saleh paranoid, Hackett lazy, Zach a tittybaby

Newsy autopsy of the 2023 season. A lot of these storylines were predictable and transparent, but it’s good to see them confirmed. Some highlights:

 

—Hackett was lazy as sh*t, didn’t watch a lot of film, didn’t communicate with his offensive staff, and only took advice from Aaron Rodgers on in-game adjustments.

—Rodgers abandoned Zach halfway through the season. Zach thought he’d have a “direct line” to Rodgers, but it ended up not being the case. Zach and Rodgers weren’t talking toward the end when the whole “reluctant to play again” thing came down. 
 

—Zach was embittered by Hackett and Saleh constantly slurping Rodgers’ nuts and treating Zach like a side chick until Rodgers was supposedly going to return. 
 

—Woody was being influenced by fan and media criticism of the team he read on Twitter and would confront Saleh with it. (lolololol)

—Saleh is portrayed as a true bitch in this article—blamed Zach for everything going wrong, saying that getting to 8 wins with Zach would “be a miracle.” Was obsessively paranoid about being fired and wanted Rodgers and Johnson to endorse him for the 2024 season. Most hilariously, Saleh confronted his offensive coaches about the “reluctant to play” Zach leak, and was apparently laughed out of the room:

Nice recap. But, none of it is a surprise like at all. The real awful part is it’s not over yet and next year it’s all just going to get worse. They say winning cures all ills but this team is well past that in my opinion. Nothing but old fashion bleach, taking the trash to the curb and starting over is going to fix this reactionary mess of total and complete  incompetence.

I feel like it’s  that Gase year all over again where I know it’s going to be another lost season and I’m just waiting for people to be fired. 
 

the only problem is I actually think we have a good roster and young players that can play but they’re going to take the first off ramp they see and I don’t blame them. 
 

Only hope is if Rodgers plays like 30 year old Rodgers but chances are slim.

The owner being influenced by fans on Twitter and then confronting staff is crazy. How can an organization function like that? That shows a lack of trust. I’d be paranoid as hell if I was Saleh and JD. What a sh*t show.

No real coach or GM is coming here.  They will find people, but not good people.  This jig is up I think.

Read it. Not really surprising. Hackett is a babysitter. Nothing on Douglas as usual. Nothing on Wilson really. Woody is lost- we knew that. Saleh doesn’t want to be a HC.

If Woody was influenced by fans on Twitter, he would have sold the team 3 years ago. It's literally 3/4 of the comments on each one of his tweets.

If this is true, it's pretty amazing (though not surprising).  A lazy OC, a dumb-as-rocks paranoid HC and an owner obsessed with reading comments.

Understandably.  I bet the entire team felt that way to a degree.  In HK, I remember Ulbrich speaking to the team and showing a replay of AR8 throwing a TD to the opposite corner of the end zone.  Ulbrich said something like "this is our QB this year".  Why would our DC be saying this to his squad?  I mean, I get that he might be trying to say "you're going to have more slack to make mistakes this year" but even that seems like the wrong attitude to try to instill in your defensive guys.  Things must've been 10x worse for ZW, having to constantly hear about this.

Pathetic.  The guy talked Navy Seals (aka "extreme ownership"), yet never applied it to himself.  I saw (and pointed out) signs of this all year long.  I can't stand Saleh.  He may have been JD's worst decision.  I'm already looking forward to whoever our next disaster of a HC of the NYJ is going to be.

The league is perfectly fine with the Jets sucking. They are a money train either way. Allows more room for teams that require winning to sell tickets.

Talent can only take you so far. They're probably playoff caliber, but all the playoff teams lose except one. This isn't a Super Bowl level team as long as Saleh is in charge. No way, no how.

You can copy and paste this article to any other team's fanboard that had a bad year with a sh*t qb.

Just so happens this team 100% relied on the qb to set the culture and win a lot of games. Of course it will fall apart when he's gone. Of course Hackett and Saleh stink, we already knew that. Of course woody is meddlesome, we already knew that. I love how some are shocked and appalled by this.

This is what Saleh gets for interviewing position coaches before they fire the existing position coaches. I imagine much of this comes from the Calabrese/Zach/Titans guys side of it. Woulde be hysterical if it’s part of an internal coup to get Vrabel hired here.

The story makes him out to be a victim.  
He only refused to play after they told him he wasn’t going to be on the team anymore.
