Selling the farm for an aging vet or problem player.   if it does not work (Manning, Brady) it is a spectacular team killing fail (Watson, Wilson, most likely Rodgers.)

That’s what happens to horrible organizations.

Lotta QBs available. The Bears are finding out his market isn’t nearly as strong as thought.

also worth noting

That’s the type of thing that’s going to make it hard to find a good quality backup this year.  It will be interesting to see how aggressive the jets are in pursuing a backup qb and what happens in the draft if they don’t.

The top Bears beat guy was on the radio today saying Fields is "nobody's Plan A," and the hosts were aghast. It was pretty funny

I thought Russ sucked b/c of the oc.

He was much better this past year than the year before.

16 to 26 tds

11 to 8 ints

84 to 98 rating

60 to 66% comp

3 more wins

It’s going to be someone like Tyrod or back to Wilson because of his dreaded dead cap.

With the influx of new QBs coming in, Brissett and Minshew as FAs, why would anyone give up assets for Fields?

Maybe, and that’s ok for a backup.  The issue is, the jets offensive personnel and coaching isn’t good enough to win games with taylor unless the d is lights out.  So while it improves the backup qb situation it doesn’t change that much.  If rodgers misses significant time, they likely miss the playoffs and we’re in for a housecleaning again.  Again. If rodgers misses a few games and taylor can’t eke out wins and they don’t make the playoffs, we’re housecleaning.

When you really look at this season, it’s easy to see why every coach/scout wants to leave.  They know it’s difficult to make the playoffs with rodgers, given his age and health concerns, and the OL situation.

I do bring up the crazy scenario where the jets surprise and take a qb in the 8-10 range, and then use a 2025 pick to trade back into the 2024 draft and address OL.  That situation would be kinda bizarre, but it would (hopefully) address both backup qb and future qb in one move, it would give woody his shiny new qb toy to market with the new unis and would hopefully attract better coaching candidates next year when it all falls apart.

They managed to win games with Zach Wilson and Trevor Siemian. They can win games with Tyrod Taylor.

That assumes the d is as good or better, but you never know.

His dead cap number is significantly less than what it was last year. Won't be an issue.

That’s for Woody to decide

What I find interesting in light of the outright release of Russ is Douglas is apparently expending time and energy to trade our Wilson for a 7th round pick and 5 million in cap space. Just release him and turn the page. But with the Jets, it’s always something.
