Boom! First Post... Whats up Jet Nation???... I think if this signing goes through Pettigrew and Cumberland would be a great combo and I'm totally down for it.  However, since were on the subject of tight ends I was just wondering what is going on with Dustin Keller?  I know his legs are prob like 90% bio-mechanical now lol but, I havent heard a thing about him.  Just wondering if anyone else has

Forget all this. What do you think of Michael Vick? Sanchez - sucks or victim of circumstance? Rex or Idzik?

Welcome aboard. Steer clear of Integrity28, he's mean.

Welcome, DN.

Agree, the combo of Petti and Cumbi will do nicely this yr. compared to years past.

Haven't heard anything on Keller. Me thinks he's still rehabbing the knee. Probably will try to catch on with a team after the draft or  in camp

3rd post in the thread I posted this.

According to the New York Daily News, the Jets will sign TE Brandon Pettigrew shortly.

The closest I can find:

Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 9h

I'm told free-agent TE Brandon Pettigrew will have a deal in place with a team shortly. #nyj

Manish, first of all, he's Manish. Second, he says "with a team" doesn't make it clear that it's the Jets. He hashtags a lot of these posts with #nyj but if he meant the Jets why not say so?

He'll be signed when he's signed. Close isn't the same thing.

Why do you say that?

Pettigrew doesn't prevent drafting Ebron if he's there.  Further, it removes gambling the position on other teams NOT drafting him.  Then there's the other thing, which is that Ebron might not be all that once he's playing with the adults (or not for some time anyway).

I assumed they would go another route with their pick by bringing in Pettigrew now... but you make a good point.

You drove JoeWillie78 to an early grave. I've decided I'm going to be Holden Caulfied keeping the children from going off the Ape Cliff.

Yes, blame me - not the relentless horde of trolls known as everyone else who posts here.

He will have a deal in place with a team shortly. Really? That's some crackerjack job of journalism. Jets are near signing him and 2 other teams are very interested. Manish says he will have a deal in place with a team shortly.

Scary how good this guy is. No one gets a scoop like Manish Mehta.

Except that it is math. You can wait until the shoe is over if the count is bad, but the next one has no more chance of being cold than one following a crazy hot streak.

If a TE is taken in round 1 by Idzik, it has nothing to do with previous ones taken by Tannenbaum, Parcells, Steinberg, or anyone else.

I don't know how much time you've spent in casinos but any craps dealer will tell you that tables get hot and cold.    Some things you just can't explain.

When it comes to the Jets and drafting TEs in rd 1, I am 100% with Bit.   There are other positions to fill in rd 1, there's no need to tempt fate with Ebron, and there aren't any other TEs worth pick #18.

I think Vick is a big step backwards... I think Vick would beat out Geno in an open competition and that Vick would run a very different offense than Geno would.  Vick would eventually get hurt and we would be up sh*ts creek.  I'm not saying the Jets dont need a solid backup I just think if you drafted Geno to be your future than give him a shot at being it.  Sanchez sucks.  There are many examples to pull from but the bottom is line the dude cant read defenses.  Just look at the 2012 Titan game when we still had a shot to go to the playoffs... Abysmal play.

I love watching Rex Ryan defenses but, its been frustrating watching the offenses he puts out as we all know.  But thats where Idzik comes in and hopefully he can help rebuild it.  So far I like what hes doing so I guess we'll see

At least he didn't call you a dickhead.

I got called a pussy and had someone threaten to punch my face last night here, and I wasn't even being a dickhead. So... yeah... even when I'm not a jerk, people need me to be their jerk.

Any more of these reports of signings without a link to credible confirmation should result in a perma-ban.  This is unmitigated horse $hit.

That's why I waited last night for Decker to happen officially, and then edited my thread. I didn't want to sucker anyone in trying to "scoop" the other posters. LOL

Plenty. I also count.  It's not even that hard once you get the hang of it; storybooks/movies make it out like you need to be some kind of genius to do it perfectly and that couldn't be further from the truth. Really fast dealers make it more difficult, but really if you can count up and count down by one you can count cards pretty easily.

What those craps dealers are saying is they've seen long runs of "good" and long runs of "bad" which is fully expected. If you see enough nights at a table you'll see everything. Mostly you'll see short runs that are good and short runs that are bad. But you'll see everything. An uneducated dufus who deals craps will tell you it's karma or divine intervention or something else similarly inexplicable. In reality what you're witnessing is a classic bell-shaped curve. Run enough hands simulated via computer software and you'll see "hot" and "cold" runs as well in their mathematical proportions to the total number of hands played (or rollers throwing).

Not only isn't it unusual or out of the ordinary; it's fully expected.

The failure to see long good and bad runs is what would be inexplicable.

ok, so you definitely get it.

Still, your post is exactly why I agree with Bitonti.   "Run enough hands simulated via computer" is code for unlimited bankroll, which neither I nor the Jets have.

When the table is cold walk away.

When Mitchel, Brady, Becht, and Keller are staring you in the face you are in a long bad run and the next TE is likely to follow suit.

there is absolutely no science to this opinion.   It's just what I think.

Listen, stick to condescension and bad puns, being corpulent is Crusher's thing. You can't have everything!

LOL

You forget, character flaw #3 of the Ape: everything is about me.

I CAN HAZ EVERYTHING!!!

Or the next TE is likely to break the run.  No run, no matter how good or how bad, goes on forever.  Or really what is the most likely:  the same as if there were no history.

Flip a penny as many times as you want.  (Catch it in the air and slap it down on the back of your other hand; don't let it come to a rest on its own).   If you have some seemingly-impossible streak and get the same side literally 15x in a row - odds of this are 1 in 8192 - you know what the odds are on the next toss being tails again? It's still 50-50.

Run enough hands simulated via computer is "code" for nothing.  It's a way to generate the same number of hands that a working dealer would see; nothing more. A dealer sees what would seem like countless thousands of hands.  More than any casual gambler. If a craps dealer saw the same number of rollers (4) as the Jets have taken 1st round TEs, he wouldn't see enough rollers to have seen both super-hot and super-cold ones.
