It has everything to do with Revis.

If you are a GM in NY you have to understand that:

when you trade a guy for the number 13 overall pick, when none thought we could get anything higher than a 2nd, mostly because of the injury.

Then you draft the DROY with that pick

Then you have a clear chance to resign that player less than 12 months later

And you have a major need at that position

And you have the money

And you would be keeping him away from the Pats who also had a major need

And he is a fan favorite, so every douche with a #24 jersey can dust it off and wear it

....You simply make it happen. It was a PR home run like no other. And instead we don't even try. Instead we let him go to the Pats and sit on 20 million in cap room.

This miscalculation is why there are billboards and stuff all over the media. The draft is the draft, sometimes teams don't have a good one, and some of these guys need time to develop. He did what he could in free agency with the WR's. We landed the top guy on the market. We spent all 3 of the 1st rounders we have had since Idzik has been here on defense.

The Revis debacle, that started so well with the pick of Richardson, is why he will be gone. It's fitting, kinda like all of the interceptions that the Jets have created with their pass rush just to hit our guys in the hand and and drop to the ground.

Would it have been a good move? Yes. Would it have been PR glory? Of course. Was he ever realistically coming to a losing team just for the money? Absolutely not. Revis coming back is and was a pipe dream that floated around like a turd that wouldn't flush until Belichick the plumber came and snaked it for us.

Even if you believe all this, where would that have gotten us?

Still no playoffs, a worse draft pick for next year (if he alone makes the difference in a win or more), and $12M less cap space next season.

A one year $12M contract for a CB is a move made by a team who's a contender, and for whom CB is one of the few missing pieces (QB not being one of those pieces).

Without Revis = no SB

With Revis = no SB, plus one less $12M/year player next year, plus lower draft picks in every round (if he saved any wins)
