Gas2No99
The $6 million question: Can Jets have Darrelle Revis' contract voided? Dickless SmutiniESPN Staff Writer One of the subplots to the Darrelle Revis case is his large contract with the New York Jets. They owe him $6 million even if he's not on the team in 2017, but they could try to have the contract voided because of his legal issues stemming from his alleged involvement in a street fight last weekend in Pittsburgh. At this point -- assuming the likely outcome that they release him -- it's unknown whether the Jets will try to recoup the $6 million. We'll walk you through what could develop into a controversy over his money. Here are the particulars: The deadline: As part of the five-year, $70 million contract he signed in 2015, Revis is due a $2 million bonus if he's on the roster the second day of the 2017 league year (March 10). He also has a $13 million base salary that includes a $6 million guarantee. The Jets don't want to pay $15 million to a declining, 31-year-old player, so they could ask him to take a pay cut or simply release him on March 10 to avoid paying the $2 million bonus. They can't do it sooner because of complex rules involving the salary-cap hit. If they cut him, they owe him the $6 million guarantee -- unless he violates the contract. Keep reading. The contract: There's language in Revis' contract that could protect the Jets in a situation like this. According to MMQB.com and NJ.com, the contract states that the guarantee is voided if he's fined or suspended for violating the NFL's personal-conduct policy or "if the player engages in personal conduct reasonably judged by Club to adversely affect or reflect on Club." The last part is vague; there's no language in the contract that mentions specific criminal charges. Revis is charged with four first-degree felonies, including assault and robbery. The league: The NFL is "looking into" the Revis situation, according to a league spokesman. Commissioner Roger Goodell has the power to mete out discipline whenever he pleases, but in most cases, the league waits until the case is adjudicated before deciding whether to impose a fine or a suspension. In other words, it can move along at a glacial pace. There's virtually no chance the league will rule by March 10, when the Jets have to make a decision on Revis. The Jets: So what recourse do they have? One person familiar with the situation said the Jets, if they're determined to chase the $6 million, could suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team before the March 10 bonus deadline. That would be a bold move that undoubtedly would prompt the NFL Players Association to get involved. What makes this tricky is they can't recoup the money once they cut him and write him a $6 million check. That's why they have to figure out something quickly. If they're really fired up, they could cut him March 10 and refuse to pay the $6 million, putting the onus on Revis to challenge it. The likely outcome: The Jets could take a chance, pay the $2 million bonus on March 10 and continue to fight for the $6 million, waiting for the league to impose discipline. But that's not a gimme. Plus, do they want to engage in a protracted battle with one of the best players in franchise history? That would be awkward and messy. What would they do? Ban him from offseason workouts? They'd be on the hook for the entire 2017 salary if he showed up and sustained a season-ending injury. No doubt, the Jets are exploring their options. In the end, the feeling here is they'll cut Revis on March 10, write him a $6 million check and tell everyone it was a football decision.

Gas2No99
Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer At about 7:20 p.m., Darrelle Revis arrived at the Pittsburgh Municipal Courts building, turning himself in to police. He has been charged with four first-degree felonies stemming from a street altercation early last Sunday morning in Pittsburgh. The charges include aggravated assault and robbery. Gas2No99
Jets' Darrelle Revis turns himself in to police in Pittsburgh Facebook Twitter Facebook Messenger Pinterest Email print comment Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis has turned himself in to police in Pittsburgh following a weekend altercation that led to him being charged with four felonies and a misdemeanor. Revis did not answer questions from assembled media as he made his way into the Pittsburgh Municipal Courts building at about 7:20 p.m. ET Friday. He was accompanied by attorney Blaine Jones and family members. Police on Thursday charged Revis with two felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count each of robbery and conspiracy, and a misdemeanor count of terroristic threats. The incident at question occurred at 2:43 a.m. ET Sunday on Pittsburgh's popular South Side. Two men, ages 21 and 22, told police that Revis punched them amid a verbal altercation. Witnesses said the two men were unconscious for 10 minutes, according to police. Dallas Cousins, a 22-year-old from Kittanning, Pennsylvania, was walking on a street when he spotted someone who resembled Revis, police said. Cousins confronted Revis, who acknowledged his identity. At that point, Cousins began recording video on his cellphone and continued to follow the NFL star. "At some point, Revis snatched the cellphone away and attempted to delete the video," the police statement said. Zacheriah Jarvis, a 21-year-old from Ross Township, Pennsylvania, who is Cousins' roommate, helped retrieve the phone, police said. An argument ensued. An unidentified man came to help Revis. The other men told police they "were punched, then remember waking up to talk to police." A witness, Nathan Watt, told police that Revis approached him after Cousins and Jarvis were knocked out. Watt quoted Revis as saying, "I got more guys coming." The complaint added that Revis "stepped within a foot of his face with an aggressive demeanor on his face, fists clenched, and stated, 'Do you want to be next?'" Watt said he didn't know whether Revis or the man who helped him knock out Cousins and Jarvis, telling police, "I don't know. It happened so fast." Officers viewed the cellphone video at the scene and confirmed the person in it was Revis. Police said the video "shows Revis walking away from the group and Cousins following him, describing what Revis is wearing. The video then shows Revis standing in front of the White Eagle Bar and stating, 'Why are you following me?' several times before the video stops." The men said they later took themselves to the hospital and that Cousins was diagnosed with an orbital floor fracture. Revis and the unidentified male fled the area in a truck, Watt told police. Three calls were placed to 911, including one from Cousins. A cab driver and a resident also called 911, both saying they saw two men unconscious in the street. On Thursday, Revis' attorney, Jones, said the four-time All-Pro was "physically assaulted while at the location by a group of at least five people" and was a "victim in all of this." One of the NFL's most accomplished players, Revis is facing an uncertain future with the Jets. After a disappointing season -- he called it the worst of his career -- the 31-year-old could be a salary-cap casualty in the coming weeks; he's due a $2 million roster bonus on March 11, plus another $13 million in base salary (including $6 million guaranteed). Information from ESPN's Rich Cimini was used in this report.

He was retained for pre-trial services. Jones wants the video that's been at the heart of this saga to be released. He thinks that will have a positive impact on Revis' case moving forward. Jones didn't want to say who the new attorney will be. Share 20m

Best thing that could happen is 2017 is a complete sheetstorm, Bowles gets fired, Maccagnan gets religion and Jets are in position to pick Darnold, and hire a real coach in 2018. The Jets aren't winning anything in 2017. Enough half measures and half assing it. Burn it down and start over. There is no way that money found by voiding Revis changes any of that. And if it did it would simply be another half measure of failure. The worst thing the Jets can do is throw more lipstick on the pig such that Darnold dosns't happen. Lot of people here want to turn Revis into Public Enemy #1 over a bar fight at 2:45AM on a Saturday night. In the criminal justice system that is commonly called a piece of sh*t case. This is stupidity, not criminality. Everyone was drunk, said and did stupid things, nobody is credible and nobody is really hurt spare pride. Share 1m the fact that it's a non-monetary bond means that the court thinks most of the charges are baseless. not saying it was a smart thing for revis to have done but from what i've read it seems like there's not enough evidence. maybe the other guys will sue him in civil court but again there needs to be some evidence that revis slugged them. as for what the jets will do, imo it depends on how the case plays out over the next couple of weeks. they have until march 11 to release him or pay the roster bonus. if they try to recoup the 6 million in cap money then that'll be a huge distraction. they should just eat it and move on and hope revis can sign with another team. isired
Revis has basically been a celebrity for 10+ years with no altercations like this, or any off-field issues. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. Cut him March 11, pay him the $6M, keep the relationship healthy so that one of the all-time greats stays a part of the family. Sperm Edwards
Since he's unlikely to receive league discipline in the next 3 weeks, it seems likely he'll just get cut and receive his guaranteed $6m. So $39m for 2 years of Revis on the wrong side of 30. No great year; one generally good (though not that good) season, and one bad season (complete with obvious mail-it-in effort). Say it again. $39,000,000 for the past 2 seasons. 29 starts. $1,345,000 per game, over two non-playoff seasons.

Jetster
The Jets don't owe Darrelle Revis anything! F*ck him & his uncle! Revis NEVER played under a contract not worthy of his talent. Look at someone like Antonio Brown & his rookie contract that he honored. You guys are nuts to think the Jets owe Revis anything. He wasn't a GREAT JET, he was TEAM REVIS. The guy won a Super Bowl with our most hated rival over the past 15 years. It would be like Big Ben going to the Ravens for a year, winning a Super Bowl & then coming back & playing like Geno Smith! I don't even consider this guy a NY Jet. When you make over $1,300,000 per game & refuse to tackle your persona non grata in my fan book. I don't think you would EVER see that from great defenders like Woodson, Reed, Watt, it was disgusting to watch. Probably the most selfish, self preservation play I have ever witnessed in pro football & im 56 years old. The New York Jets owe Darrelle Revis NOTHING! He had 2 great years 2009/2010, he got paid handsomely for it & even held out in the 2010 camp and then hurt his hammy. F*ck him & his Uncle and the whole Revis family he said he needed to take care of financially.

Revis took full advantage of a system designed to screw players over at every turn and suppress their salaries with cap rules. Grant you it was not pretty, but I don't here anyone complaining about the owners' profits because they artificially suppress players salaries. Do you go to a casino to root for the house? 20 and out-wild guess; you did your 20 and got out in a civil service job. How would you like if instead of 20, your municipality figured out a way to make you work more than 20, your union went a long (the NFLPA being a joke that cannot even get retired guys decent health care), and simply told you "Fukc off, them's the rules" work 24 years instead.
