Mac: look Dante.  Do you pronounce it Dante or Dawn-te?  Anywho.  We cant afford to give you a signing bonus but please taste these cupcakes for your Bday.  Mrs. Mac baked them for you with her secret recipe.  They are delicious!

Hightower: ///takes bite of cup cake, makes a funny face, pulls a piece of a paper out of his mouth and begins to read; Will you sign with the Jets? check - yes or no.

Just when you think this franchise can't possibly get any more pathetic...well, here we are.

Geno Smith - QB -  Free Agent

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Chargers and Browns "have interest" in free agent Geno Smith.

RapSheet added Smith's visit with the Giants over the weekend "went extremely well." Of the three links, the Browns are the only team where Smith would have the opportunity to compete for a starting job. With Geno recovering from an October ACL tear, teams will likely want to see how his rehab is progressing before really kicking the tires.

Good luck Geno.  Sadly I think your Jets' experience has damaged your career beyond repair.  When is this franchise ever going to have a good (offensive minded) HC?

Probably the day that the wheel turns and suddenly defense is everything again ... ;-)

Depends on if they had sprinkles on the icing.  Just icing is pathetic.  Some sprinkles on the icing...well, that's just impressive.

I'm told that defensive end Howard Jones is visiting with the Jets on Friday. The Bucs opted not to tender him as an exclusive rights free agent. He had five sacks in five starts in 2015 but suffered a torn ACL last year. He went to the doctors last week and was assured that his recovery is ahead of schedule. Wherever he heads up, they're hoping for full clearance before training camp and the belief is that he'll probably be able to do some activity in minicamp.

Hey let's give $13m per to an inside linebacker that is begging the Patriots to re-sign him even though we burned a one on an underwhelming ILB last year and gave an ILB from 1956 a huge extension the year before. And let's make sure this new, expensive ILB will be off the field 96% of the time vs the team we're outbidding because it'll be funny.

IF they are going to trade Sheldon, then they will need another DL.

Why would the Pats pay an ILB 10m if he's a bad player?

Because they score 32 ppg and every team tries to run the ball against them to eat clock.

So what you're suggesting is that your offense decides what defensive pieces you need? Interesting theory, but it still means that he 's a good player. So if the Pats want to pay him 10m, why can't we pay him 12m?

What has Josh McCown ever won in the NFL?

The 1st pick in the NFL draft for the Bucs the year Winston came out, hopefully he can get the Jets the 1st pick in the draft the year Darnold comes out.

Because you don't put a spoiler on a Kia Soul.

We can't sign a good QB $14 mil per but we can give that money to an ok not great ILB

Can't wait for Macagnan to get fired

Not a theory,a  fact; the ability to score points can decide how you play defense. By the same token pretending you can win every game 13-10 and not giving a sheet about offense-pretty much every Jet coach since Parcells spare Mangini,-is really dumb.

How you play defense is different than who you play on defense and what you pay them

Agree, but this is beyond Macc. This is what it looks like when you have no organizational philosophy. This is what it looks like, as it was with Revis, when your owner thinks he's antagonizing Bob Kraft.

It's different because of the age. Hightower is 26/27 so he has 4-5 prime year left. Revis was over 30.

But I still think he stays in NE.

It wouldn't matter if Hightower was 22.

Then why did the Panthers sign Luke Keuchly to a massive deal? I know you dont value ILB much but if the Pats are willing to pay him 10m, they obviously think he's a good player. Especially since they could easily draft Reuben Foster this year and play him at ILB.

Sometimes when you are trying to create a culture change, you need to add a great player and leader. Reggie White to the Packers comes to mind, although Hightower is not as good as White
