Can the Jets still make the playoffs if they eliminate the bye?

I guess Joe wants to start Zach to finally bury MiLF

Yeah I could see JD creating a fake limited downgrade for Mike White, in order to start Zach. Instead of just deciding to start Zach in a meaningless game in the first place. Makes total sense.

I really think this is the way in

Bills vs Pats game doesn’t matter since we lose the tiebreak vs the Pats anyways. Steelers lose, Titans lose, Jets win. Eliminates Steelers, Titans and Dolphins. Pats get in with the Jets, even if the Pats lose.

indeed

The NFL is very much aware that making CIN-BUF a no contest, it hands the Chiefs (who lost to them both) the BYE and home field through the playoffs. While "no one cares about the game Monday night" everyone will very much care when the Chiefs host the AFC Championship Game. Especially after last year's OT controversy.

While expanding to eight teams, the NFL at least removes one unfair advantage KC will be handed.

And if the NFLPA is going to try and negotiate, the NFL will likely just say "we wanted to expand the field but the NFLPA didn't allow it."  It's brilliant ass covering when the world is up in arms when KC is Super Bowl bound.

well the Championship game can be moved to a neutral site. but then like you said the bye for KC would be unfair.

Yes, that is on the table too - altho the NFL would hate for that to happen.

Just saw this:

Competition Committee to vote on approach to AFC playoffs at 6:00 p.m. ET

The NFL is moving toward a solution, necessitated by the decision not to proceed with the Week 17 game between the Bills and Bengals.

Per multiple sources, the Competition Committee will convene at 6:00 p.m. ET to vote on the approach to AFC playoff seeding based on the fact that Buffalo and Cincinnati will have played 16 games, and that the rest of the conference will have played 17.

It’s unclear whether the vote will be binding. Most likely, it will proceed to the Commissioner, who could in theory veto it. Given the circumstances, it’s highly unlikely that a full ownership vote would be required.

Possibilities include a neutral site for the AFC Championship, if it involves two of the three teams most affected by the cancellation of the game — the Bills, Bengals, and Chiefs. Some have suggested that, if the Chiefs are the No. 1 seed, they would choose either the bye or home-field advantage against the Bills or Bengals, whichever finishes as the No. 2 seed.

The possibility of adding an eighth team to the AFC playoff field would require collective bargaining with the NFL Players Association. There is no indication that any such discussions with the union have happened.

There presumably is a small theoretical chance that Bills-Bengals will still be played, given the unexpected good news from earlier today about the status of Damar Hamlin. That would require configuration of the playoff schedule. All indications currently point, however, to the game not being played.

could it be that there going to wait to see if KC wins and Buffalo lose Sunday. then KC would win the #! seed even if they replayed the Bengal game. then use tie breakers if Cincy and Buffalo tie for the 2nd seed.

but then if they do that they cant add a 8th team after they played Sunday. they got to let them know by tomorrow that the Sunday games count.

I don't know. You have to have clarity before you head into the final weekend. Any decision may effect how a team approaches their game.

Looks like they Competition Committee will lay it out for the owners tomorrow:

Woody should recuse himself on the account he is an utter failure of an owner.

Nope...scratch everything I just said.  I'm an idiot!  ?

This would be the breakdown for only determining the 7th seed.

The Jets can STILL make the playoffs....holy sh*t...I'm an idiot.

So assume everything I wrote above is true....that breaks the tie for the 7th seed.

They would then do the same thing for all teams to break the tie for the 8th seed.

NE would already be in - so they're out of the equation.

Jets win the AFC East division tiebreaker over the Phins with the 2-0 sweep.

Jets would then win the tiebreaker with the Browns due to the miraculous comeback in week 2.

hahaha...we're in!

wait...but if a NE player has a heart attack and the NE-Buff game gets cancelled, then we can leap frog the pats, right? NO ONE WANTS a NE Player to go down with a bad heart, but just saying. Or what if NE-Bills TIE and some other games end in a TIE? But Jets squish the fish. Are we in???

So much for that far fetched dream. There will officially be no 8th playoff team, based upon the official announcement by the NFL of the official cancellation of Mondays game. They are considering a neutral site for the championship, amongst other things, depending on how Sundays games and playoff games, turn out.
