Read the updated post, Bart Scott apparently said it on WFAN today.

And Bart Scott likely read it on this board last week.

Also, I would be checking in with Corey and see if he is ready to return.

It's just a viscous Corey Davis circle.

Wasn’t he in most of training camp?

Yes and no. He was on the roster, but I think he had excused absence for the last week or more before "stepping away" on Aug 23rd. So what is that, half of training camp maybe? And was he (or anyone) going all-out at in full week 1 game shape that point? Honestly don't know.

Game shape he’s prob not all there at this point, but with that much time I’d image he knows the plays/scheme decently which probably takes longer than getting in shape for these guys

You guys need to keep in mind, CD is still only 28 years old, so he's not exactly over the hill, even by NFL standards.

This is was what jumped out at me, from that Heavy.com article:

The Door Was Left Open for a Possible Jets Comeback

Head coach Robert Saleh gathered his team to break the news that Davis was stepping away from football.

During his speech to the team, Saleh left the door open for a potential Davis return at some point in the future.

“I do encourage all of you guys to give him a call, let him know that we still love him. It doesn’t mean his career is over, the door is always open for him to come back. I’m imploring all of you guys to reach out to him and show him some love. As of now he’s stepping away from the game,” Saleh explained on “One Jets Drive.”

Seems to me that there is a legit chance, that CD comes back this season.

Enormous linemen aside, how is a 28 year-old athlete not always more or less in shape already? I never even stretched until I was into my 30s. Plus a WR doesn't play 100% of the snaps anyhow, even if he is in peak condition. They all come off the field here or there, and having another starter-level guy in the mix allows them all to take an extra breather.

Being “in shape” is different than being in good enough condition to play professional sports. Like we can be in shape for normal guys, but can I go out and run routes with speed, jump, take hits and all that kind of thing? Heck no! These guys work out all the time. Was he doing that while being at home all this time? We can hope so.

To be clear I 1000% want him back, but it may just take him a few weeks to really make an impact

He is a professional athlete. Two months removed from camp, without an injury sidelining him, he should still be in good enough shape to be on & off the field at a minimum, yes.

Just having him line up as the 2nd or 3rd WR and drawing coverage adds more than whoever we’ve lined up WR all season.
Having Lazard line up against and covered by teams 3rd best CB and adding a legit 3rd option can’t hurt.

He can still drop those at home.  I especially like his get table at CSV (for Excel).

Also ZW would do him no favors.  Glad he left.

This team needs a lot more than CD to improve this WR corps……

And where are you going to find these WRs?  You’re just going to ask for a #1 WR, after the trading deadline has passed and poof he’s on the roster for the MNF game.  Like it’s easy

Anything is possible but spending your time doing anything that you want to because you have all the time and money you need is probably a better option than coming back to a 13 point per game offense with Zach and taking hits. He’d be crazy to come back to this.

He would make MILLIONS to come back. They are trending towards the playoffs and then he will have Rodgers throwing him the ball. And could make 12 million next year if he wants. That is a lot of money.

can he start Monday?

I'd think starting is a longshot, but maybe more for reasons other than physical conditioning. Shouldn't take long for a veteran like Davis, but yeah it'd probably take more than one afternoon of practice pitch & catch, with the playbook in hand again for the first time in months.
