Just some telling statistics from this season. Yes, I will be cherrypicking the bad ones, partly due to nothing being impressive. This is more for people to see his how he tends to do in certain situations rather than prove he's bad. We all know he's bad. Look at these stats and take a look at 2015, all significant drop offs. It's also always interesting to see where QBs are excelling/struggling - that's why I like the splits page on espn.

Fitz is completing just 42.4% of his passes that travel 11+ yards in the air. Shocking the dump offs statistics made him seem like a competent QB in completion %. He's completing 66% of passes 10 yds and under.

On 3rd down with less than 3 yards to go, Fitz is completing 33% of his passes, with an average of 1.08 yards. He has been targeting routes that do not reach the LOS consistently all season, missing them, and not giving the offense a chance by doing this. This came as no surprise.

With 4+ WRs on the field, he 52.8% of his passes, 1 TD and 9 INTs with 4 taken sacks. Keep in mind this has been 64.3% of the time he's throwing the ball. Obviously, Enunwa playing HBack plays a part, but man, the more options, the worse for Fitz. You can make the argument that he has less time with more WRs on the field, and is more susceptible to blitzes, but this is bad, and it was a problem last year as well. Took 17 sacks all last season, 15 came from when he had  4+ WRs on the field.

1st half: 63.4% 7.98 avg, 6 TDs 1 INT. 2nd Half: 52% 5.34 avg, 0 TDs and 10 INTs. Nothing really to say here.

This is my favorite stat to illustrate how terrible he is:

"Under pressure this season, Fitzpatrick has completed only 42.6 percent of his passes, for an average of 4.8 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 35.7. To be clear, his passer rating under pressure is worse than if he had just thrown the ball to the turf every snap, and that doesn’t even factor in the yards lost due to sacks."

The INTs are a bit of an outlier because he threw 6 in one game.

Still, if you take those away, he's mediocre, which is what he is.

He also threw 3 in the next game. He's got 14 in his last 7 starts. Or 8 in his last 6 games not counting the "outlier".

You know what IS an outlier? His 10 wins last year.

But Matt Forte is the reason we can't run the ball.

If you wanted to run the ball, Matt Forte wasn't the guy to sign. He stopped being effective as a runner 2 years ago. He's a WR. His primary role should be catching 8 balls a game from the gimp-armed QB. I've been saying it since summer. AHHHHH!!!!!

He's certainly not what he was, but alas, the game where Fitz wasn't the QB, the running game opened up against a top 5 run defense. Forte is not the problem. Teams are stacking the box and clearly daring Fitz to throw, and it's been working.

Thank you!!

How is it that folks have been watching games for years and they don't understand that a poor QB and their rotten play can ruin a run game!!!

Just the thought that Geno might throw down field opened up the run game against Baltimore!!!

Which...

Effects the TOP...which

Impacts the defense and makes them, the defense, more effective....

Man, I wish I could remember the types of teams Fitzpatrick eked out wins against last year during that 5-1 finish and how they compare the the types of teams he is losing to this year during this 2-5 start.

I mean, were those 6 teams last year like bad or something?  Or like maybe the teams we faced this year were really good or something?  Did I read something in the offseason that said the Jets were facing like 5 playoff teams in 6 weeks with like 4 of those games on the road?

Nah, it must just be that Ryan Fitzpatrick is the reason the Jets are a bad football team and would have nothing to do with the level of competition, the coaching, the defense, the schedule, Decker missing.  Silly me.

Silly me.

SAR I

SAR , stop, its over, there's no more defending Fitzpatrick. Its time for all of us to reunite under the Petty banner.

What bothers me most is that all of you claim to have seen this coming, are fed up with this player, and can't believe he got that much money and that many games this season. Isn't that more of an indictment of the front office to give him that money and on the coaches for giving him that much rope to hang the season with? Fitz isn't the Jets starting QB without people who are running the franchise saying so. Fitz isn't a Jet next season. Mac and Bowles aren't going anywhere. I think that's a little bit more disconcerting than the stats of a journeyman QB.

Why can't these things all be disturbing?

Most importantly, I think everyone on the board is ready to move on.  He sucked.  Geno sucks.  As I said to somebody earlier, it's like arguing over which is better, ebola or the plague.

Our QB's suck.  Plain and simple.

As far as I'm concerned, the most important thing about this season is how well Petty and Hack play when their time comes.  Do we really need more threads about Fitz or Geno?

They are but there is a track record and expectations with one. The other two we all had higher aspirations for.

Nope. That's revisionist. Heard all offseason about how great of a season "one" had in 2015, how re-signing him was a no brainer (so long as it wasn't for Bradford/Osweiller money), how he gave us the best chance to win (i.e. get us to a Super Bowl), how $12M for him wasn't bad considering how much a bunch of actually-talented QBs make, how we're to look at how his career parallels that of Rich Gannon, how we owe it to Fitz as back pay because he only made $3.5M last year, the celebrations over Maccagnan "getting 'er done" finally, etc.

No, I think now playing the "yeah well we knew this all along" song is for the block of fans that didn't want him back in the first place, and whose line in the sand was backup money.

He stinks. Not being the only Jet stinking doesn't absolve him from being such, nor does it absolve those many vocal fans whose desire to see him back helped pressure the Jets into re-signing him.
