Voluntary OTAs

Recommended Posts

I haven’t seen or read anything newsworthy since they reported two days ago. Have you guys up in the tri state area been getting any info on what if anything has been going on?

I’m especially curious to hear any Becton news… was he healthy enough to show up? Zach… what’s the word? Is he throwing dimes and looking like a top 10 FQB out there? Was Breece able to show up for meetings? (Obviously not ready for drills yet)

JD and Saleh… Any PCs? Updates on QW?

I’m interested in any news you guys have heard actually, so… post away?

2023 NFL Offseason Workout Program

Voluntary offseason workout programs are intended to provide training, teaching and physical conditioning for players. The calendar for 2023 is below.

As per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases. In 2023:

  • Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
  • Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk-through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.
  • Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.

Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.

New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional voluntary veteran minicamp. Any voluntary minicamp for veteran players must be conducted prior to the NFL Draft (April 27-29), but no earlier than week three of the club’s offseason workout program and after at least one week of the two weeks of Phase One activities that the clubs may hold pursuant to Article 21. This year, eight clubs will hold voluntary veteran minicamps, as noted below.

Each club may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2023 may begin on May 15. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft. The dates of each club’s post-draft rookie minicamps will be circulated at a later date.

Wondering why any starter would even bother to show for this… just work out on your own.
Position coaches could simply zoom a meeting with their group if they felt the need, no?

I can see from the offensive side to meet with the new coaches and players and such. But for someone like Mosley? Nothings new, take your time and see you when its mandatory.

Good on Zach for attending these workouts. He’s got a great opportunity to be out of the spotlight and work on improving, with zero pressure, over the next year or two (assuming the Rodgers trade happens).

Someone had to show up and throw the ball.

Who else we got, that nobody GB backup buddy of Rodgers?

I hope the fans give this not yet 24-year-old kid some space. He’s in the horrible position of waiting to be replaced after a pretty terrible season of football. Now he’s out there trying to step into the role of a leader when he knows he lost the locker room with that press conference. He still has a ton of pressure on him; to gain the trust of his teammates, and to complete a five yard pass. And he has to stand out there looking and acting confident -but not phony!- or he will get roasted in the press. Even with milfs galore, it’s a rough spot.

Well if they are injured on their own and have no injury guarantee they could lose a ton of money, if they are injured in official Jets programs they are protected.

Amen!  We should all root for the kid.  It’s not like he hasn’t worked hard or tried.

He might just not be a very good football player.  JD whiffed badly trying to hit a home run.

I’m hoping it’s a curable case of the YIPs .. not banking on it of course … I’ve just never seen a QB miss so badly at such a high rate.
