Time to be Concerned About Haason Reddick Hold Out?

Were the Jets actually that dumb to trade for Reddick without at least the parameters of a deal in place?

Did they really think he was gonna set foot on the field for $0 in gtd money this season?

I believe he was traded for as a 1 year rental.  They just drafted McDonald, they will extend JJ, you don't give Reddick a new contract.

Ideally, he plays the year, walks as a FA for good money, the Jets get a 3rd round comp pick back, which negates the mid to late 3rd round pick they sent to Philly to acquire him.

There has to be a reason why a guy averaging 12-13 sacks a season over the past 5 seasons and who has the 6th most sacks in the NFL in those 5 seasons has been on 4 different teams in those 5 seasons.  It's not because he's not productive, obviously.  Why didn't Arizona, Carolina, or Philadelphia sign him to a long term deal?  Maybe him lying to the Jets about his intentions to report and play are an indication as to what type of person he is.  In any event, something is up with this guy that leads teams to move on from him despite his elite production in a premier position.

This is what pisses me off about Reddick (assuming it's true);

The Jets’ perspective

When the Jets acquired Reddick, they did not intend to redo his deal, at least initially. The expectation by many was that Reddick would play out this season on his current contract.

Reddick initially told multiple people in the Jets building that he intended to report for the offseason program, but didn’t communicate with anyone in the organization prior to skipping the workouts. Saleh seemed a little more perturbed with his absence when asked about it last week, though his tone changed on Tuesday. Saleh pointed out that many Jets defensive linemen — including defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, defensive end Jermaine Johnson and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams — skipped much of the voluntary portion of the offseason program.

“To be honest with you, the expectation for all of our guys is to be part of it. It is voluntary. While there’s an expectation it’s also kind of a hope,” Saleh said. “Missing the offseason program as a D-lineman, it’s almost a benefit. I don’t want to downplay it because I want them here but I understand why they opted to get work elsewhere because they feel like it’d be more productive for them.”

At some point before the start of practice on June 11, Saleh spoke with Reddick for the first time since their initial conversation after the trade was conducted. Saleh said he initiated the conversation.

Haason Reddick’s holdout is another complication for the Jets: Everything to know - The Athletic (nytimes.com)

Now I've seen almost identical sentiment, reported through multiple news/media outlets - are they all misinformed??

Reddick not communicating with anybody, certainly isn't helping his cause.

Do you think Nissan Reddit will be here for preseason games?  If so he can play in those 3 games to get in game shape.

Not sure but the Toyota Reddit should be here opining about the new Camry.

I went to the Stealth 3HL &7W combo a couple years ago (which I never saw coming pre fitting… a 7W???) and you’d have to fight me to get them out of the bag right now.
I’m in my late 60’s and I’m getting 215 and,195 with launch at sea level. I absolutely love them!

(those 790’s ain’t bad either!) 😜

Being in Philly, I watched a lot of Reddick. When the curtain lifts on a season, he will show up. Always has.

He has many millions of reasons to not risk injury, as well to create whatever leverage he has left. Also, he knows that it is in his best interest to put up "stats" and film this season. It is a part of the game. If I were his agent, or his dad, I would be advising him similarly.

Great, look forward to seeing it.

Just like all the "don't worry, it'll be fine" claims this offseason, I'll be very happy if true.

Not sure where I have said that, but ok.

Said what?

You posted what boils down to "don't worry, he'll show up, it'll be fine".

I made a broad comment that "don't worry, it'll be fine" is a regular reply on this forum (not by you specifically, that was never stated nor intimated) to all the risks we face going into 2024.

And that I hope everyone turns out right about it.

Did I really have to spell this out to you?    Stop looking for things to be fake-mad about ffs.

Reddick showing up is by far the most likely outcome. But you can worry. It's a free country 😅

What I actually posted is that I have witnessed a lot of Reddick playing, and he has never been a guy that loafs or takes plays off when it matters most. And, that is at big moments in big time games. And, selfishly, he has a lot to play for this year. I like players, particularly players with his attitude and ability to play full games (some of the highest snap counts at his position). They tend to have a chip on their shoulder.

Sorry I have to explain that to you like you are a child, with you being the old man that yells at the cloud, and then tells us, "I told you that cloud was going to bring rain".

What do you have on Reddick? How many full games have you watched him play?

The same "if you say so" kind of BS that you are famous for. JFC with your passive/aggressive tendencies. Never disappoint.

Why does Saleh speak. Like ever.

lol - while true, fwiw, he's not like, wrong.  Josh Allen doesnt report into the Jags until training camp.  He steady practices/prepares at his own personal coaches facility.  He did this last year, w/ a big contract looming, everyone thought it was a hold out.  It wasnt, he just wanted to be the best version of himself.  He went on to have 17.5 sacks, @New York Mick to which accredited this success back to choosing to train on his own vs. the Jags stuff.   Signed a mega pay day this offseason, still working out at his preferred facility.

Sounds like the Jets fault for not getting it in writing or doing their due diligence.

You seem to be seeing some kind of fight here that does not exist.

I think Saleh could use a "public relations" liason.

He sure does screw the pooch, with some of the things he says.

And while I said this somewhat jokingly, a 1st time NFL head coach, in the NY media market, probably should have a public relations liason, to help them out during press conferences & interviews.

I don't think there is any other media market in professional sports, where a head coach has to endure this level of scrutiny.

I didn't post a take on Reddick's play.  The topic is his holdout/not attendance to-date.

I haven't watched him play very much, but by all accounts he's been a very good and productive player.

I think at this point you guarantee him some money this year but don’t extend him.

You want him motivated to produce this year.

He’s already shown himself to be a liar.

Saleh is every star player’s ideal HC.  The players know they can trample him at the drop of a hat, basically do whatever they please and he’ll continue to lay down like the yes man he is.

It’s so bad I think Reddick or Rodgers could even dictate to the neutered HC during the season that they want to take games off similar to NBA “load management” and Saleh wouldn’t have the stones to say or do anything about it.

I dont think using the Arizona Cardinals and Steve Keim roster decision making/contract negotiations, should be reflection of Reddick as a person.  First and foremost, the Cardinals, drafted him and then immediately moved him to a different position, a freaky natural edge rusher was asked to become a 3 down ILB, which stunted his development and impacted his presence on the field.  JD Vance, wisely moved him back to his natural position, after the Cardinals waived his 5th year option and shockingly, playing his natural positoin, edge rusher, he had a break out season.  Essentially, the team that drafted him screwed him over hardcore, Reddick didnt want to return to the Cardinals.  So, he had to go prove himself on a 1 year deal in Carolina, showing that his break out season wasnt a fluke, w/ his old college coach.  He went off again, and the Panthers wanted to bring him back but because of his relationship w/ Rhule, he let him hit the open market and the Panthers couldnt match the Eagles offer.

we let a good player go and brought in a one year malcontent rental player and threw away a conditional 3rd rounder to boot

We’ll see how Bryce Huff performs as a full time player. That’s not how the Jets saw him, and that’s why he’s gone.

For Reddick, the pick is a 2026 third rounder. If the Jets choose not to extend him, and he balls out in search of his next contract to the tune of another double-digit sack season, the Jets should receive a 2026 third round comp pick for him. So one year of 10+ sacks for a swap of 2026 third rounders, all at Bryce Huff’s current pay rate. What, exactly, is the issue?

Well I have, as I watch majority of all Eagles games. Aside from his play, which his numbers speak for themself, and they stand in elite company. Particularly because of the number of snaps he is involved with.

I tend to love players that have chips on their shoulders. Especially players that have faced incredible odds and been given nothing in their lives. Consider:

-Reddick had injuries in high school. Did not play much his junior and senior years.

-He was not recruited at all, and received zero offers.

-He walked on at Temple as a an undersized player playing safety, moved to DE and became an all-AAC player. He parlayed that into a first round draft pick. That should give you an indication as to the type of drive he has to succeed.

-Initially Reddick was seen as a bust in the NFL for where he was drafted. And then in 2020 he flashed, and showed the promise of what he later became. He signed with the Panthers on a one year deal, exclusively because his former college coach (Rhule) was the head coach. Signed a one year deal.

-After that year, he decided it was time to come home because that is important to him (he is from Camden, NJ).

-He has become involved in numerous charities in this area. He gives back to the community, particularly Camden.

-He is not a one-trick pony. In this day of rotational specialists on the D-line, Reddick is not that. in 2023 he participated in 73% of his teams defensive snaps. That places in the top 25 of the NFL. Bryce Huff? Participated in 42% of team defensive snaps. Do you think it would be easier to flash great plays when you can pick your spot to go all out? Of course.

I will ask this question: if you were the father or the agent of Reddick, would you advise him to go to min-camp and risk injury, as well dilute some leverage? Personally, I would not.

As a Jet fan, of course I would love to see him at camp. But I understand and respect his decision. He owes the Jets nothing. He owes The Reddick Corporation everything to see through his longevity in what is a business of very short lives.

Again, I love players that have chips on their shoulders. Players that have been given nothing and know what it is to fight.

Does that guarantee an all-pro season? Of course not. But, he has fought through those trials before.
