Jets' Saleh: 0-1 with Aaron Rodgers feels better than 1-0 in '23

retiring in mid season would be a mark on his career. means he quit on us. hes not doing that.

It's a tradition of outcast former Packers HOF QB's at the end of their career to quit on the Jets.  Rodgers respects football tradition.  Dick pics to follow.

Lol what? He was asked a direct question and gave an honest response.

Dumb response.

It was a dumber question for sure - but doesn't change the fact that it was a dumb answer.

Last year has nothing to do with this year - they lost their starting QB for the year on play 4.  Of course this is better.  Dumb questions shouldn't be dignified with answers.

He hid the injury and was out the door as fast as he could run when the season ended.

This!

WTF is Saleh blabbing about here?  He knows he only has a job here because he was able to hide behind "it was ZW's fault, not mine" and he's still using that excuse, even though ZW is no longer here.

The team he coaches just got completely embarrassed.  How about STFU for once?!  We have 3 straight very winnable games.  How about focusing on going 3-0.

You guys know he is obligated to speak with the media, right? Do you want him to stand there and cry or break stuff?

I'm not a big fan of Saleh, but complaining about talking to the media during a post game PC in which he's obligated to talk is dumb.

Farve started his tenure with sexual harassment of Jen Sterger and finished by hiding an injury to protect some meaningless personal "streak" and couldn't leave fast enough. **** him.

A year ago, the New York Jets were 1-0 but reeling in the aftermath of quarterback Aaron Rodgers' season-ending Achilles injury. All things considered, their current 0-1 start actually feels better than last season, according to coach Robert Saleh.

"You know what? Unfortunately, it does," Saleh said Tuesday, several hours after being dominated by the San Francisco 49ers in a 32-19 loss at Levi's Stadium.

The 40-year-old Rodgers emerged unscathed from his first extensive action in 20 months, perhaps the only silver lining in a loss best described by wide receiver Garrett Wilson: "They whupped our ass, and that's the reality of it."

After being outclassed by the 49ers, his previous team, Saleh tried to put a positive spin on the Jets' situation. He insisted the offense was better than it looked and vowed to get the defense -- the hallmark of the team -- turned around.

"It's definitely going to get fixed," Saleh said. "I'm not discouraged in any way. Obviously, they executed a hell of a lot better than we did, and we'll be better for it."

The Jets, who next face the Tennessee Titans (0-1) on the road, allowed eight consecutive scoring drives -- a stunning meltdown for a prideful defensive unit that finished No. 3 in yards allowed in 2023. It had been at least 45 years since they surrendered that many scoring drives in a row, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Kept off-balance by the 49ers' pre-snap motion and misdirection, the Jets were shredded for 147 rushing yards by Christian McCaffrey's understudy, Jordan Mason. Afterward, Saleh and the players were quick to credit the 49ers and their scheme.

"They're a good football team," said cornerback Sauce Gardner, who missed nine snaps because he got the wind knocked out of him. "You know, they just played in the Super Bowl."

The Jets, with eight returning starters on defense, brought Super Bowl aspirations into the season. Except for a seven-minute touchdown drive in the first quarter, they were thoroughly outplayed -- a wake-up call, some players said. They missed 18 tackles, per Pro Football Focus, and generated little pass rush without holdout edge rusher Haason Reddick.

The offense, too, was responsible, as it was unable to sustain drives. They held the ball for only 21 minutes, 20 seconds, the lowest time of possession in Rodgers' 225 career starts. Rodgers threw an interception, Breece Hall lost a fumble and Allen Lazard dropped a third-down pass -- among the biggest miscues.

The Jets looked out of sync, perhaps because none of the starters played in the preseason. Saleh insisted "there's a lot of confidence on that side" of the ball, adding, "Our offense can be really good this year."

It can only go up after last season, when they produced a league-low 18 touchdowns. On Monday night, the starting unit generated only two touchdowns, including a 12-play, 70-yard drive that lasted longer (7:07) than any drive last season.

I think our offense is in a really good place," Saleh said. "I thought it was a good first outing in terms of the quarterback hadn't played in so long. But there was a lot of encouraging things, and I know it's going to be a lot better once we balance out this team."

Rodgers (13-of-21, 167 yards, one touchdown) wasn't happy with his performance, but was grateful to be back on the field. The team echoed that sentiment, especially after last season's devastating injury.

"There's no panic in him, for sure," Saleh said of the future Hall of Famer. "He was a calm force on the sideline, and I think [Monday] night provided a lot of closure for him with regards to finishing the game and knocking that out."

Actually, Rodgers was pulled late in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach. But at least he was able to walk off the field

Must be that new " Core math".

I just think his answer sent the wrong message to the players.  We came into week 1 unprepared and got our teeth kicked in but Saleh's response was essentially "losing is okay because we'll get 'em soon!"

That's always been a core issue with Saleh and we all dance around it using different words/phrases, but it's basically PVO run amok.

We got our ass kicked? No big deal, we'll get better. We had 5 personal fouls? It happens, it's an emotional game. etc. It never feels like there is pressure on anyone to perform and it has been that way since Saleh got here.

saleh has got to be kidding.  his team just got beat in just about every way.  his much vaunted defense got thrashed and the offense sort of looked better but they still didn't score enough points and had too many three and outs.  just how does this look better?

maybe saleh is looking forward to spending time in a vacation house in jamaica.  0-1 is not better than 1-0 no matter how it's sliced.

i take it that 0-1 with Rodgers as your QB is better than 1-0 with Zach Wilson.

i know your a Zach supporter so this might be a stupid question but did you really feel better last year at 1-0 than this year at 0-1?

It is obvious but also a stupid thing to say.

As was this: "I'm not discouraged in any way." Like dude, not even a little bit discouraged by how your defense played?

He's such a clown, the graphic of him is perfect.

wins are so hard to come by that you take them when you can.  and buffalo was a division opponent so it was a better win.  but why this 0-1 is worse than 1-0 besides the win tally is that the team failed in so many ways.  saleh, of all coaches, should have known how shanahan was going to attack his defense and be prepared for it.  even with mcaffery, the niners are more of a run between the tackles kind of run offense.  so just how the niners were so effective running that way with their second string rb should be everyone's question.

saleh has a chance to right this by having the jets go on a tear.  the next three games are the titans, patsies and then the broncos.  (being a zach fan i wouldn't mind seeing zach start over nix and do well against the jets).

Jets will be favored to win the next 4 games.   They lost a game they probably should lose but let's see coach bob win the games he's supposed to win - those have never been easy for him.

Hey Coach All Gas!

If it’s all about the QB, what are they paying you 20M (or whatever it is) for?

What do they need you for exactly?

To spin things after the fact?

I’d do that job for 2M bro, let Woody save 90%
😂😂

Exactly!  It's ironic that AGNB is his main slogan when he seems to be so assured that everything will get fixed.  There's no urgency (aka "gas").
