Hard Rock, Racetrack Propose Casino at Meadowlands

Here is an interesting story from News 12 that will have the interest of football fans that travel to Metlife Stadium. Can you imagine going to a football game and then heading over to a casino for some post game fun? Fans might want NFL Gambling but that isn’t going to happen. If this proposal goes through, visiting a casino after the game could spice up the game day experience.

EAST RUTHERFORD – Hard Rock International and the Meadowlands Racetrack are proposing a casino at the Meadowlands, which experts say could be one of the most successful in the country.

The project, that will be unveiled next week, could generate $500 million in tax revenue for the state. It could also provide a new source of cash for Atlantic City’s struggling casinos, which have fought the proposal as it has been floated and debated in recent years.

Jim Kirkos with the Meadowland Chamber of Commerce says many people come to MetLife Stadium and the surrounding area to attend many high profile events, so the casino could really be an attraction.

“Visitors that come for those types of events, they want more things to do here,” he says. “Creating more entertainment options is in everyone’s best interest.”

Meadowlands Racing Chairman Jeff Gural says the casino would pay a 55 percent tax rate on winnings. Atlantic City’s casinos pay 8 percent.

But before it could happen, New Jersey’s Constitution would have to be amended in a statewide vote.

Four of Atlantic City’s 12 casinos closed last year, and gambling revenue has been falling steadily for eight years.

Please make it happen.

A casino in that location would finally kill the business model for Connecticut, Atlantic City and now Pennsylvania casinos who have been relying on New York city and long Island gambling dollars for years.  In order to rely on those dollars, you have to make sure there is not local alternative.

The future presidential ambitions the governor of NY recently created yet another parasite on the NY gambler, Upstate New York. A casino in the Meadowlands location instantly breaks that "monopoly" and the Catskills can, not to put too fine a point on it, go eff themselves.  New York city or long island gambling would not be too far behind as there would be little point in upstate politicians objecting any more.

Keep the rake to a reasonable level and let the hold'em commence.

It's laughable that people would want this. Casinos take money from hard working people. That's the entire business model. Take people's money by presenting an illusion of potential wealth. It's the biggest scam on earth.

So yeah.. let's put a casino within walking distance from drunken defeated/elated sports fans. Talk about licking their chops. They're already counting their money and there's no way the NJ "Gov't" doesn't pass this.

It's a whole new level of misery waiting for Jets fans. Losing on a blocked FG to the friggin Pats then go and lose the rest of the paycheck before sitting in the traffic to go home and explain yourself.

The suicide rate will triple in 6 months.

So, I guess the proposed mall/high end restaurant concept is dead?  LMFAO!  What a cluster fuk that location has been.  If you look under debacle in the dictionary, you see that Xanadu site right next to Leon Hess' tenure as our owner.

No it's under construction as we speak.  I know a plumper who's working on the water park. It's exchanged ownership several times, but now owned by the people who own and operate Mall of America. Last I heard it was suppose to open mid to late 2016. Though that date has changed several times.

I kind of agree with this.  I used to gamble pretty heavily back in the day.  Then I heard the perfect parrallel that someone once told me.  Would you go hunting in a thick fog and just fire your shotgun all over the place hoping to hit something?  Because that's pretty much what gambling is.  With that said alot of people do it, and a casino in that location would make a killing, especially in the winter.

Of course it would make a killing. Where would the money be coming from is the real aspect that no one wants to look at.

Okay.  I stand corrected.  IMO, I still believe the mall and restaurants will never see the light of day.  Water park could work.  Parents are always looking for places to take the kids.

For some clarification on this they just can not decide to do this

TRENTON Gov. Chris Christie says he’s now in favor of allowing casino in North Jersey if some of the revenue is used to aid Atlantic City.

The state constitution would have to be amended to allow casinos outside Atlantic City, where gaming has slumped and four casinos closed last year.

For a public question to appear on the November ballot, lawmakers would have to act before an August deadline.

Atlantic City will and have been fighting this along with the South Jersey politicians

There is it bigger issue to be dealt with before any tpe of casino could ever be built in the Meadowlands - the NFL.

it appears every year at this time, Governor Christie has attempted to put a racino in the Meadowlands.

This appears to be common practice of the Christie ministration as well as the NJSEA every year.

what they're not instruct in the general public, is that even if this goes to a vote in the New Jersey State Senate and then finally to the general public as a vote, is that only the federal government itself can give authorizations for a casino to be built outside of Atlantic City New Jersey.

it recently allowed casinos to be built along the i-95 corridor in Pennsylvania due to the two casinos in the Poconos.

the only reason that happened, would be close to existing Indian Reservation groups own the rights to Mount Airy lodge and Pocono Downs.

New Jersey doesn't have that luxury, all of our casino gambling is done for Gaming Commission Atlantic City. That's why it would violate federal law.

sorry, it's just not going to happen...

There is a case is still pending regarding that.

There's also a thing called Nullification. But we're not quite there...yet.

It's a bad idea. But adults should be allowed to make stupid decisions.

The NHL will have a team in Vegas by the end of the decade. The NBA had their All Star game there, and MLB has had regular season games there. The NFL only releases injury reports due to gamblers. In truth if there is game fixing it's more likely to come to light with legal bookmakers looking at the data  than with wiseguys. Better the pro and college sports entities get out in front and do it correctly than to keep this charade going.

WIdespread sports gambling may be a bad idea but it's also inevitable. State governments spare Nevada want the money. And been to Dublin and London when EPL is going. There is a legal bookie on every corner. Nobody was dying in the streets.

Now indoor ski slopes that go unoccupied for decades...

The state has no loophole. New York, Pennsylvania and Connecticut's ability for additional gambling locations is based on the fact that Indian nations were the selling point to these casinos. New Jersey does not have that loophole.

In know what the case is about. The constitutionality of the law is in place here. It's a lot deeper than 'Big Daddy in DC says we can't do that so it's over'. It's called Federalism.

Go ahead and ask Colorado how much they care what DC has to say.

Id love if they did this. Maybe I could actually go sneak out and play poker every now and then.  NJ has missed out on so many opportunities by sticking with AC as their only casinos. AC has been dying for years and is shutting places down left and right. The flop of Revel should have proven that the location is just not right anymore for those that refused to admit that AC just isnt in a position to really draw people. I really think any type of casino in NNJ would be huge though the traffic around the Meadowlands would be ridiculous without some changes.
