Il Mostro
No complaints if he is the best option there at 6 and we take him. This kind of pass rusher will do nothing except ramp up an already excellent D.

jetscrazey
seems like a lineman than an OLB who can play standing up and rush the edge. Having said that, he's a beast pass rusher playing with his hand in the dirt. Solid motor. If Bowles needs that for his defense then by all means draft him. I personally feel like the team needs an OLB who can stand up more, but I have no idea what Bowles plans to do with these players.

jetscrazey
A lot of draftniks think he sucks he doesn't suck, but he might have trouble fitting in the NFL. Too small to stop the run, but not agile enough to play OLB and set the edge. The two things I do love are 1)his motor, which is something you can't coach and 2) he has great evasive pass rush moves and is surprisingly powerful given that he plays under 250 lbs. Right now he's a 3rd down pass rush specialist lining up with his hand in the dirt. That's a very good niche for him. But worthy of a top 10 pick? I don't know. BurnleyJet
He's more DE's I want someone who plays OLB no more tweener Conversions, if we go OLB @6 it's :- Fowler. Beasley. Depree.

Im fine with it as long as it Fowler or Beasley . No to Shane Ray to many question marks for the 6th pick imo. And I don't trust Gregory ability to Sustain weight seems real Maybinish in that aspect . If it wasn't for that he would be my #1 choice . Good thing he will likely go before us. DaBallhawk
Not a huge Ray fan. He doesn't strike me as an elite edge rusher. He seems rather small, stocky & not that explosive. He didn't workout at the combine or pro day, does anybody know why? Anyway, I'd prefer Fowler & Beasley. I see Ray as more of a 4-3 end, like Ansah. Fowler & Beasley are true linebackers, like Von Miller, Aldon Smith, Dion Jordan, Mingo etc. And please for the love of God, stop with the Dupree @ 6 talk. FTL Jet Fan
Have to agree with above poster too many question marks with Ray and I don't want anything to do with Gregory, especially when I hear him compared to Dion Jordan. It's still early, let's see who else they bring in.
drdetroit
I'd rather have Scherff or Cooper but Ray is my 3rd choice at 6. Just say no to Mariota.
bitonti
A lot of draftniks think he sucks at 240ish he doesn't have ideal size for the 3-4 OLB position and it's tough to imagine him along side all these other 255-260 pound 3-4 OLBs like Pace I don't think he sucks by any means but not scheme diverse and possibly not a top 10 pick either. By the time this is all done it will be Beasley, Dupree and Fowler ahead. Ray and Gregory could be mid-late 1's depending on the fit.

HessStation
Ray (along with Beasley) is the most explosive player off the line. Seems very fast twitch with good, quick hands. But he also looks like the least athletic out of the top guys on the field. Very stiff, not sure he can play in space/ looks like he has a hard time change of direction. He looks like a straight line point and go guy. Also gets gobbled up a lot of times in the run game. Potentially too stiff for 34 OLB and too small for 43 DE. jmo. Ohio State NY Jets fan
Not a great Pro day from the sounds of it... Missouri defensive end Shane Ray didn't perform poorly at Missouri's pro-day event on Thursday, but compared to the other top edge rushers in the draft -- Nebraska's Randy Gregory, Florida's Dante Fowler, Clemson's Vic Beasley and Kentucky's Bud Dupree -- the SEC Defensive Player of the Year didn't quite measure up. "His numbers today were not great," said NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock on NFL Network's "Path to the Draft" Thursday. "As a matter of fact, if you stack his numbers up against the other top four guys you'd see that all of his numbers, starting with a 4.68 40, his cone drills, his jumps, were not as good as the other four guys." http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000480170/article/shane-rays-pro-day-performance-short-of-the-mark

Goes to show. I remember watching one game where the announcer was gushing over Ray after a sack and I guess I'm slightly paraphrasing but remember the guy saying he's a 4.5 40 guy who will put up over 400 on the bench and jump over 40 vert. PD was today, my bad up top.

HessStation
I don't like him for us.Neither do I...But for perspective purposes. Via Pauline below... "Missouri Unofficial forty times I'm receiving from the Tigers' pro day: Markus Golden/DE-OLB: 4.65s Jimmie Hunt/WR: 4.50s Marcus Murphy/RB-RS: 4.49s Shane Ray/DE-OLB: 4.58s Larry Sasser/WR: 4.52 Considering the way they "calculate" official times for pro day, those numbers may be a bit slower, but remember, teams usually go by what their scouts/coaches have recorded versus any official numbers being thrown around." Not that I care about combine or even pro day numbers. It doesn't change my opinion one bit. I said before that just watching him play he seems like a 4.7 kind of guy. But if you run a 4.7 you should at least play way faster and be more explosive. To me he just doesn't play fast, he's not explosive (unlike "slow" edge rushers like Dumervil or Woodley). Compared to Fowler or Beasley. Doesn't mean he can't have a good career or become a double digit sack guy, but I just don't see it as a great fit here with Ray. He should go to a team that really needs that typical 4-3 end to go after the QB. The Lions did that with Ansah. The Buccs could potentially pick Ray at 1, that would be a perfect fit. But that's obviously not gonna happen, they're not gonna pass on Winston. For our defense however I want Fowler or Beasley.
