Popular Post Doggin94it
Quote We learned on Thursday that the Jets will be opening the 2023 season at home against the Bills on Monday night, but tackle Cedric Ogbuehi no longer needs to clear his calendar for that night. Field Yates of ESPN reports that the Jets have released Ogbuehi. The Jets signed Ogbuehi off the Texans practice squad last September and he started four games before going on injured reserve. Ogbuehi returned to the active roster for the last two games and started in Week 18 before re-signing with the team last month. After Ogbuehi re-signed, the Jets added Carter Warren with a fourth-round pick and signed Billy Turner. Duane Brown, Mekhi Becton, and Max Mitchell are also available at tackle. Ogbuehi entered the league as a Bengals first-round pick in 2015 and he’s also played for the Jaguars, Seahawks, and Ravens over the course of his career. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2023/05/11/jets-release-cedric-ogbuehi/ Gotta imagine he asked for his release after they drafted Warren, as he's now 5th on the depth chart (6th if you count one of AVT/Turner) and likely wanted a chance to compete for a job. Wouldn't be surprised to see him back on the PS if he gets cut elsewhere after camp
CTJetsFan
O-line room was too crowded. Makes sense Jets released OT Cedric Ogbuehi. They had just re-signed him before the draft, so apparently the Jets are happy with what they see out of Max Mitchell, Billy Turner, and Carter Warren early. Ogbuehi will try to find a different place to be functional tackle depth in 2023.
Popular Post mrcoops
Yup, got to think he saw the writing on the wall with the addition of Warren and Turner and asked to be released. He did a decent job last year when all the other tackles went down. Hope he lands somewhere with a chance to secure a roster spot.
slats
The tackle position was never the crisis that it was being made out to be before the draft. I agree, @Doggin94it, that he probably asked to be released.

bonkertons
Makes sense. I think we all expected that to happen eventually after the Turner signing. I'm guessing by the start of the season the depth chart would be: LT: Becton; Brown; Warren RT: Mitchell/Turner; Turner/Mitchell; Warren Warren basically takes Ogbuehi's job as 3rd string swing tackle. ...and yes, I see Becton taking the LT spot if he's healthy. I think Brown is strictly Big Ticket insurance. Either way though it's nice to have some actual depth this year.
#27TheDominator
Kind of disappointed because I think he was as good of a guy as you can find that would stick around without having to be on the active roster. They just had too many bodies and he deserves a chance to fight for a roster spot. Good luck to him, but we have enough depth. Hopefully some of it plays up to potential.

We know how well he can play when he's healthy. If someone told me right now that he'll play something like 16 out of 17 games this year I think I could almost guarantee 12 wins.

Lawson used Becton as a turnstile in exhibitions, before he got hurt, then he had a mediocre season against everyone else. Big question whether Becton can stay with speed rushers. Should be great at right tackle, with a TE to slow down that speed rusher. AVT and Becton would provide an unstoppable running game, especially with Tippman pulling.

There’s not much contact so the ol can’t do much

varjet
At the current time, it sounds like the Jets are in otherwise in good shape at T and don't need Ogbuehi. I think the Jets are going to regret releasing him.
