Report: Peyton likely to become a Redskin

Mike Freeman of CBS Sports reports that "everyone" he talks to in the NFL believes Peyton Manning will become a Redskin if and when he becomes a free agent. This comes on the heels of a weekend report from two people close to Manning saying "it is very likely" Manning will end up with the Redskins.

It is clear both the Redskins and the Dolphins will pursue Manning. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan cannot afford another losing season if he wants to keep his job and for once the Redskins have plenty of salary cap room. It is also believed that the Arizona Cardinals have interest but owner Bill Bidwill may balk at ponying up for Manning a year after the Cardinals paid dearly for the failed Kevin Kolb experiment.

Clearly Peyton will have his choice of destinations.

this is a no brainer

there is only one owner in the NFL who is dumb enough to hand out a 35 million guaranteed plus incentives one year deal to a player coming off, possibly career ending multiple neck surgeries -- and with Al Davis dead, that leaves Daniel Snyder

Could this be the resurgence of Sideline Santana Moss? LOL Santana > Welker in 2012. Book it

So essentially, next year the Redskins will go 12-4 and lose the Super Bowl?

Just being sarcastic of course.................Or am I?

I guess it makes sense. Peyton needs a team where he can run every practice and be the real OC, and the Redskins are desperate enough to let him fill that role.

he will not go to the skins.. Arizona,Miami,Jets, 49ers are the only teams that will have a chance at him

Arizona won't pay that coin after Kolb and Manning isn't going to a team that's small market and lacks Headline appeal. Miami sounds like the right fit. Historically popular, warm weather, good WR, and a fairly solid team with a big hole at QB. 49ers don't need him and seem to be building a team from the ground up with good drafts and good coaching. Maning doesn't make sense there. Jets are a big market team with a good ground game and solid defense but suspect o-line in protection. I'd give the edge to Miami unless the Jets can guarantee at least one if not two solid o-line additions via FA. Jets may also be too strapped to pay considering Tannenbaum's genius accounting moves. Maybe trade Holmes for Manning and you've got a shot at covering his salary.

I think the Redskins suck too much for him to go to..

it depends on how you look at it

the redskins are an original NFL team with a huge national fan base and they last won a Super Bowl in the late 80's. the last time the Jets won a Super Bowl was in 1969.

put it another way when Favre came to the Jets he sold a ton of jerseys and started off great, but it was a bad fit and unravelled. He goes to Minny and has all that NFC North history and the ratings go crazy.

I don't know exactly why but Manning to Washington makes more sense than Manning to the Jets. no one wants to see Manning vs Matt Moore and Ryan Fitzpatrick. Manning v Romo/Vick/Eli is cash money.

It really doesn't to me...Mediocre OL, mediocre pass catchers...OTOH Everyone would want to see Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady TWICE before the playoffs....It's not as if the Jets are historically insignificant...They were the team that helped make the merger a reality...PLUS the chance to be the first QB to win a SB with the Jets in 40+ years?

There's plenty of reason for Manning to come here IMO...just have to see how it plays out....we have better offensive talent to help him out....the D here will kick a$$...He'd be the missing piece rather than the savior he'd be in Washington.

it's all about the Greenbacks when it comes to Archie Enterprises LLC

and Snyder is the only one (because he is an idiot) that is readying to throw 30 million plus (guaranteed) and incentives on top of the guarantee and the horsefaced no-neck

According to sources, guaranteed money is not the main factor Peyton is going to take into account. He is more than willing to have some type of conditional/performanced based incentives that are not guranteed. He is, apparently, willing to share the risk that comes with sigining him.

This is not Jets vs. Skins. It's Skins vs. The Field

The Redskins are simply not an attractive destination for Peyton compared to all the other potential openings. Going to the worst team in another division is not a smart move. Peyton wants another shot at a SB. He's not getting it in Washington if he has to battle the Eagles, Cowboys and his younger brother.
