Parking/Tailgate

We've been tailgaiting at the Meadowlands/Metlife since the Jets moved here. Our group was quite large in the beginning 25-30 which has dwindled down to about a dozen now. We setup our tent and grill but we always get there early to grab an end spot so were not taking extra spaces. So now with these new rules we'll be setting our tent and grill up in the middle of an aisle ?? wherever the human traffic cones point us - how does that help things .

And imagine the traffic geting in as each car awaits said traffic cones on where to park. So for the let's get there at 12 crew don't be surprised if the new and improved change doesn't result in you spending 35-40 minutes in line geting into the stadium before you can park.  But hey your entitled to your parking space so let everyone suffer,

Agreed, it will be like parking in a parking garage in NYC.  This will be a colossal mess on Sunday and yes there will be lines just to pull into the lot.

Talked to my rep and it looks like it will be enforced starting at 9AM.  We will see.....

Ah, so let me get this straight:

The good Jet fan with a young Jet family who just wants to sit and cheer and give 100% of his attention to the players and the game should stay home and the bad Jet fan with bad Jet buddies who want to get wasted to the point where they are giving 25% attention to the players and the game should have free run of the stadium to themselves?

A football game is a football game. It's not an excuse for an anything-goes frat party. That said, we can co-exist. Parking lot segregation is the answer. You get your space to act like a child, I get my space to act like an adult.

SAR I

So let me get this straight, because you can't handle people having fun if it includes the devils drink and people cuss they need to be put in the corner?

I think I get it, you can't have the best spot when you arrive so your pissed, I get it now.

See, I am an adult, I won't bring my young children to an NFL game because I know what its like.  When they are older I will bring them and show them that it is a fun time.

Let me ask you this, were the parking lots like that when you first decided on season tickets?

why did you get them if you hate it so much?    Or do you think it should change because you bought your tickets?

Right now its just upsetting to us because after 5 years together we really became a family. We've been to each others weddings. Weve been to funerals and wakes for each others family members. We get together all offseason.  It just feels right now that someone is trying to break our family apart.

as per NY Jets  reps,  get in the parking lot at 8am, and you will have no problem.  it not that hard to walk a case of beer and some chairs a few extra spots away.  quite a few jets fans could use the walk.

Will report back on this.  My rep said the same thing and we grab a island spot at 8AM when the gate open.

Another interesting thing for Sunday is the potential for Rain, which would result in a lot of late arrivals and traffic....

i wish they would do like they did when i was in houston about 7-8 years ago... everyone gets 2 spots. 1 to park. 1 to tailgate.  the spot was like a truck spot at a rest area. No saving of spots but no cars blocked the aisles so people could drive up to a friends tailgate, drop off their crap, and then go park.  Seems like a better idea than what goes on now with people all over the aisles so cars cant drive down them.

Im all for tailgating we all like to have a yahoo good time but its those that go crazy that ruin it for everyone else. Ever try to navigate a row 2 hours before game time where there might be empty spots but you can't get down the isle because of all the mayhem. Metlife parking spaces are way too small to tailgate properly in. Damn you Woody Johnson.

Part of it is really a traffic flow problem especially in L . They force a lot of traffic on the access road between the yellow and green parking areas then the cars enter the front of the lot where all of the spots are taken. If they flowed traffic into the back of the lot it wouldn't be so much an issue. But then again I'm asking a lot of the human traffic cones masquerading as parking lot attendants.

So instead of having the useless attendants having to direct every single car that enters the lot like they're proposing for Sunday, why couldn't they just enforce the 1 car per spot rule. What will happen SUnday is that they'll direct people to a spot and 5 minutes later they'll move somewhere else to be with their friends.  Again I have no problem with them enforcing 1 car per spot and no holding spots  I have a problem with them  telling us we can't park where we want so that late arrivers have a spot.

Yeah I'm with you.  My issue is with cars taking multi spots or, worse, just holding multi spots.  And again it's not a huge thing to me.  It's just annoying.  Why have the rule if you're not going to enforce it?  And it does detract from my gameday experience since it makes parking on days I come late a PITA.

But totally with you - my ideal would be able to choose my spot, but being confident that there aren't tons of spots being held.

I can totally see the attendants showing up at 9am and making all the early comers move to the front. They did that when they first instituted the 5 hour rule in the old stadium. I think they made the harley guys even move, leave the stadium and reenter.

The Harley guys used to get there at midnight Saturday into Sunday because maneuvering the massive Kingsley through a packed parking lot was a hassle. That was the golden era lol. That was when you had the legendary yellow hummer

I would be happy with this, too.  Either give everyone 2 spots (and of course add more spots), or maybe sell that extra spot for some nominal fee on top of the $25.  Or maybe give a nominal discount to folks only taking 1 spot.  You'd then need some way to identify legit 2-spotters vs those just being entitled d-bags and holding spots forever.

Again, we've probably talked about this more than it's already worth (though it is a fun discussion).  Again, could probably all be solved by some more attentive attendants trying to help (direct you to open spots, ask people violating rules to stop, etc) rather than just standing around.

They'll most likely gladly give you 2 spots. Of course you'll have to pay for 2 spots

and there goes tailgating folks........i like the way they are implementing it on the last game of the year (when no one is going to be there)instead of next year......its like a company releasing bad news on a friday afternoon hoping it gets lost in the shuffle by monday morning.......give us a whole summer to bitch and hopefully forgotten by fall

Jojo, it's not the end of tailgating. It's the beginning of paying extrs for a "Tailgating" parking pass that will be limited to a specilty "Tailgating" area.

Just like at NRG Stadium in Houston, FEDEX Field in DC and M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore...

And Woody turns the screws on the fans again...

First time poster here.  I was Jets337 on JI.  I don't post a lot but had to post on this.

This is just another Jets disaster.  A 3-11 season and possibly a 1-15 season next year and this is what they do.  If they want to solve the problem enforce the one spot rule.  I park along the island in Lot K and am online by 7:35-7:40 am to make sure I'm in to get my spot.  Our rule is anyone who tailgates with us if they don't get there by 9 am we don't save them a spot.

Between the lousy season, buffoon GM, ineffective coaching, and now this parking mess this entire organization has become a cesspool.  It's funny I went to a Fan Advisory Board meeting this season and they said to us "we know tailgate is king and don't change that."  Looks like they are trying to.

If they want to do something take some of the club lots and make those "directed in" parking.  That or sell everybody permits for the specific lot they want to park in and make one or two of them non tailgate lots.  J, K, and L have lots of islands to tailgate on.  Make one of the other ones a directed in parking lot.

If I arrive after 12:00 on gameday the two most convenient lots for my family are closed and it's because a large percentage of tailgaters selfishly take more than the 1 spot they paid for.

Because of this selfishness, I have to park on the other side of the stadium or get to the stadium 2 hours before gametime needlessly making an already-long day 1 1/2 hours longer needlessly. And with 3 kids in tow, killing time from 11AM to 1PM is horrible, all we can do is go into the stadium early and watch empty seats and listen to rude rap music.

So, no, you don't get it now.

Ah, even better logic in play now.

So NFL games are pornography. No one under the age of 18 allowed. Cursing, littering, smoking, vulgarity, urination, this is what the NFL had in mind when they published the 2014 schedule, right? "Fun time"? There are hundreds of clubs and bars in the area, you can get sauced in the comfort of your own home, piss on your own cars, leave the trash on your own driveway, curse at your own kids. "Fun time", right?

News Flash: The next generation of Jets fans deserve a quality experience and if that means that a few of you need to go down to 1 parking spot and relocate a few hundred yards further away from where you'd like to be, that's not much of a sacrifice is it? We've put up with your nonsense for decades, how about cutting the sober folks a break.

why did you get them if you hate it so much?    Or do you think it should change because you bought your tickets?

I've been a Jets fans attending 5+ games a year since 1978, been a season ticket holder since 2001, have seen Jets games in New England, San Diego, Kansas City, Green Bay, Miami, Jacksonville, and Indianapolis.

The parking lots now are the same as they've been since 1984 but a few things changed:

1. The NFL and the Jets have made in-stadium behavior a very big priority, have stopped alcohol sales at a certain time, banned smoking, beefed up security, have family sections, allow fans to report situations and have disruptors physically removed. There is a strong policing presence inside the stadium that ensures a good experience for all fans. The NFL and the Jets have ignored the parking lot behavior forever and it's inconsistent with the in-stadium experience. The two are the same thing and need to be treated identically.

2. Tailgates have grown out of control and the current generation is empowered and disrespectful. Take 2 spots? Sure! I was here first! Leave my trash in the road? Sure! I pay enough for tickets. Piss on cars? Definitely! That line at the port-o-potty is too long. Your attitude in this thread is perfect evidence of this, you think it's normal for the parking lot to be the equivalent of pornography, 18 and older only folks, if you don't like a bunch of grown men acting like they're still in high school too bad, stay home.

I'm not sure what your problem is. The Jets are merely structuring it so that tailgaters don't squat in double the parking spaces they paid for so that others with parking passes can find a convenient spot in a non-threatening way. What's wrong with that? If while you're out there tailgating and I get into the stadium first and take my seat and lay my coats on your seat, you're cool with that? "Hey, that's my seat!" "Too bad bro, get here early next time. Plenty of seats in the upper deck endzones, just go up there."

First off, welcome, nice to see us back on this subject.

Next, you're spot-on regarding non-tailgating lots, that would be terrific and solve everyone's issue once and for all.

Lastly, this isn't a Jets disaster, it's the Jets trying to make 70% of the fans happy by simply opening up spots that are taken by selfish tailgaters (note, not you and others like you). Though not intended, the Jets are putting tailgaters in the same situation that the non-tailgaters have been in for decades, making them compromise their experience without being able to do a damn thing about it. Perhaps they (again, not you who only takes your 1 spot) will now understand why the rest of us are so frustrated.

"Tailgating" is cool. Few guys in a car, small grill, a cooler, set up right at their bumper, eat some steaks, drink some beers, no problemo. But when they take up 2 spots and blast their music and curse and relieve their bladders on cars, that's not right, that's disgusting and the NFL needs to correct it.

I think this actually helps them.  If I cannot park with my friends and have to park somewhere else, I am not lugging a cooler and grill across the lot. I am more likely going to just walk to tailgate joes

Obviously not the way or reason I would want for it to go down, but you know you and any of your crew are always welcome to join us. If you feel the need to have to cook I am happy to put you behind a REAL grill and let you go to town, lol.

This would solve everyone's problems. You want to sit in the UD on the 50 but want Green Parking passes.  Problem is the Jets only sell the Green passes to the club holders and won't change the caste system they have in place with the parking.

If the Jets don't do what you recommend, you have no choice but to resolve the situation yourself.  Buy the UD ST and no Orange or Yellow PP.  Go on SH or CL and buy all your Green Passes before the season starts before the prices go up.

Problem solved.  Green lot = no issues.

To date I haven't ever seen anyone take a p*ss on a Beemer in the Green lot.

I bought a green pass this year despite not being a club seat holder.  It is much better.  Still folks taking and holding multiple spots at 11 or 11:30.  So still a little bit of a PITA and the folks in yellow could actually do something and either resolve that.  In the green lot I go to I always find a spot it just takes longer and I often wind up parking in a much less desirable spot for a quick exit than I could have had if an inconsiderate tailgater would have just moved their effing chairs.

Again, not ruining my life or anything.  Just talking a lot about it here :)  But I paid $10 more per game this year for a better experience.  I suppose I'd pay another $10 more or a little higher for a complete fix if they offered one next year. That's not really fair since the real fix is addressing the folks violating the rule.  But if it's just $10ish, I'd take one for the team to help make everyone happy.  My gift this Christmas season.

You keep mentioning 70% people dont tailgate.  Then you talk about watching empty seats for 2 hours.  So where are these 70% if they arent in their seats?

Probably 70% tailgate in some fashion, either on their own or go walk to someone elses taligate like L7 or Tailgate Joe's or someone else.  A large majority are involved in tailgating.  a small portion act like assh0les.  But yes, something should have been done years ago about spot saving and multiple spots for 1 car.

I know and I really do appreciate that. Not sure where some of the animosity came from from our end, but you and me have always been cool.

If L7 does fold, I'm hanging up the spatula and will just eat at yours lol. No more work for me.

They're wandering aimlessly. I have a lot of experience in this area. Mostly we sit in the car and listen to the pregame show, then we'll walk thru security and wander in the gift shop. Eventually we head up to our seats.

It's 90 minutes of killing time when we could have stayed home and done something constructive first. We should be able to arrive at the parking lot 30 minutes before kickoff and be all set, shouldn't have to get there 2 hours early just to get a parking spot away from a tailgater who is abusing the space.

Using the 70% rule and the fact that there has to be what? - 5-10,000 spaces in the Yellow lot?  Then there's at least a couple of thousand spaces occupied by fans that will NOT p*ss on your sneakers and spit on your car.   Find another area in the Yellow to park.  Not brain surgery.  Better yet, get the Green passes and all of your problems are solved.

The gates open five hours before kick off. I personaly get there about 8:30 for a 1 o'clock game, partly because I like to tailgate but partly because I know if I get there to late the parking lot can be a nightmare to find a spot. I park along a curb and do not take multiple parking spaces. I also do not expect the Jets to change anything about parking just for me. If I get there late I know what I am getting into. All this cyring, wha wha wha I can't have my own way wha wha wha. If I get to the mall late to Christmas shop the same thing happens..... It's life

I've been going to games regularly as a season ticket holder since about 2002. I have 3 tickets and my uncle as 2. I live in CT, travel 2 hours or so to the stadium and my uncle lives in NJ. We like to tailgate both before and after each Jets home game, unless it is a Monday Night game. We usually get to the stadium at around 10 a.m. or so and park in Lot J, a yellow lot. At 10, the parking lot is usually pretty empty. We usually have a group of 10-12, and we each pull our cars as far up in the parking spot as we can to utilize the space behind the cars. If the Jets make so they tell us where to park, that would make that difficult to do. I understand that some people take up several spots and trash the parking, but it is no reason to assign parking spots
