Something To Think About

In a podcast today, Connor Hughes said that the gameplan run yesterday looked absolutely nothing like what he saw in Camp.

Deduce whatever you want from it, but it's an interesting tidbit. Could explain how out of sync certain things were (Darnold-Anderson).

seems odd to practice one way thne show up and change it. The off looked terrible. Now this is wiht the best back or one of best backs in the game. They literelly stopped going to him. it was crazy. Constant passes at the line or within 2 yards of it. pathetic.

Interesting.

Similar discussion in Arizona about the Cardinals today.  Kliff Kingsbury was asked if keeping the offense so vanilla during preseason contributed to the slow start.  Unlike most coaches he seemed pretty honest in saying that yeah, it probably did.  If you play differently in the preseason than you're going to do in the regular season then I think you'll have problems.

How many guys were playing together for the first time yesterday?  How many snaps did Kalil play in preseason?  How about Bell?  Kalil calls some protections and touches the ball on every single play.  Bell touches the ball the 3rd most often after Kalil and Darnold.  How much timing was practiced between Darnold and Robby, particularly with Robby maybe being 85% with an injured calf yesterday?  Was he running slower, faster than expected on those missed throws?

The first time to try riding a horse isn't at the Kentucky Derby.  The first time the Jets snapped the ball on offense yesterday was the very first time they'd ever done it with all those guys on the field at the same time.  Let's remember that the OLine never even practiced together in its entirety until about 1 1/2 weeks before this game.

I dont think Robby practiced much this week if at all. Which coupling that with a new plan could explain what transpired.

Because from my eyes the Darnold Anderson misses didnt seem like they happened because of lack of skill, but moreso terrible communication and or timing.

Not that Cleveland fared any better yesterday but they have some pieces up front that will pressure Donald again next week.

They do, but outside of Garrett I'm not too concerned. Bills dont have a guy like that, but more spread out talent.

The Browns game has all the makings of a shootout with both teams being pissed with their offensive showing yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if both teams put up 30.

Darnold has to roll out and roll out often.  He did it at usc to get drafted, he did it in the later part of last year.  he was doing it camp.  We get in the 1st game an we want to make him eli manning back there.

Oh also the oline stinks and has stink for years and the people i charge did nothing about it.

Yeah that's the most confusing part of yesterday.

He was not being played to his biggest strength. Pocket passing didnt get him regarded as such a high caliber prospect, out of pocket passing did.

He stood there like a tree when that's not his specialty.

Next Monday is really going to tell us a lot about Gase and this team in general.  Both the Jets and Browns need this one badly.  If the Jets start 0-2 for the season (with 2 home losses!) followed by the 4 games listed below, we could easily start 0-6 and the season will be over before it begins.  The schedule opens up after that (with winnable games) but that will probably be too big of a hole to climb out of.  Plus Gase and Gregg Williams both seems like complete nut jobs to me so who knows how they'll react in such a scenario.

good points.  i thought they went to bell too often but it's hard to argue with the effort and numbers he gave.  they really needed to play better containment with allen though.

Look at the timing Darnold had on that throw, even with Robby stumbling if he threw that to his outside shoulder it was a touchdown

he missed. he makes 3 or 4 throws that he can make....   different ballgame sam knows this.

Why then, were they unable to e elite anything on offense - even after halftime when it would have made sense to change the game plan to what you did all summer?

Honestly, Connor Hughes doesn’t know enough about football to tell the difference. He’s grasping at headlines with this bs.
