The Jets have won 3 of their last 4 games and are 4-4 with Sam Darnold healthy. 8-8 is about where most had the Jets ceiling for the season, and that was completely healthy, without drama, without losing two quarterbacks for a month, without opening 1-7 due to $60M worth of players on IR. While the losses to the Dolphins and Bengals are disappointing, big picture the Jets are overachieving to what's left of a tattered roster. So far, Adam Gase is the one Jet that had a great season. What we wanted from this season was to see key young players grow, see Darnold take that next step, and see Gase repair a fractured culture. Playing meaningful games in December. Being competitive. By all measures, so far this season is a success- in light of the adversity faced by the devastating illnesses and injuries. Yeah, we had a couple of duds in Miami and Cincinnati, but all teams have those glitches. We are beat up, playing a roster that's half-filled with guys who aren't NFL starters, and we're 4-4 since Sam's return from a month of mono. Chin up. Head held high. varjet
Gase is not going anywhere. He is a flawed caretaker until Douglas can fix the roster. No one else is coming, and the Johnsons owe him three more years. I predict he gets fired next year because he will lay 2-3 eggs like the Cincinatti game next year that keep the Jets from making the playoffs. FWIW, if the Jets beat the Bills, Miami and Cincinnati this year, they currently would be the 6th seed. Matt Rhule makes over $4mm/year at Baylor, plus whatever extras he can make pitching cars, sportswear, etc., to mould young men, etc. in college. He is not coming to the Jets now. If anywhere, he goes to the Giants. I can see the Maras biting that bullet if for no other reason than to show the Jets up. I really don’t know from which tree the Jets look for the next HC from. I would suggest a CEO type with a solid staff below him. Could require recycling a McCarthy or Cowher. But nothing is getting better without a better S&C coach. Way too many injuries on this team.

After we were stricken down with an awful string of injuries and finally got our quarterback back, we are 4-4. By the time the season is over, we'll probably end 6-6 with healthy Darnold. That's a 1-7 first half and a 5-3 second half. That's encouraging, considering how half our roster aren't NFL starters. All is well. Because with a roster this slammed and broken there is nothing he can do about penalties or being exploited by an opponent. That's what happens when third string linemen and fourth string linebackers get beat. They take penalties or they get burned for big plays. That's not coaching. That's bottom barrel talent. Everyone is raving about Tomlin. I think Gase has done a better job of doing more with less. Tomlin is in his 11th year coaching a team that he built and was 9-7 last year, at one point going on a 7-1 run. Gase is in his first year with a bad Maccagnan team and a lousy Bowles culture needing to be corrected. SAR I

This same ownership that you hammer endlessly were here when we went to back-to-back Championship games and went on a 16-4 run during that span. The head coach, defensive coordinator, and GM are highly respected in the league and have proven they can win elsewhere. The quarterback has taken nice steps towards consistently solid play, a must for a second year player. The only thing standing between your mouth and an 11 win season were acts of God, terrible illnesses and injuries that left us with a roster filled with backups and practice squad guys. Despite this, we are 4-4 with QB1 healthy and have won 3 of our last 4 games. It's pathetic that someone who calls himself a fan can't see the extenuating circumstances and just wants to hate on the team, and as a result, the rest of us on this forum. Got a feeling this team will keep Gase another 2 years then they will blow the whole thing up and bring in another loser like Gase. I watched him take a Temple program and built that up and after what he has done in Baylor is amazing. He has coached in the NFL for 1 year for the New York Giants under Coughlin. Since I watch a ton of college football I think he not only brings an offensive approach like a Lincoln Reilly but he was a Linebacker under Paterno at Penn St. and brings that toughness to his defense. Baylor was a disaster when he was hired and now they could go to the Championship Series. And all in less than three years. He is my guy for this organization. But yes he will be a high priority for many teams, College and Pro. Hopefully he picks the Jets.
