This.

I think Allen is simply communicating that he's used the googles to see who has cap space.

I don't mind it, though. Guy can produce with Uncle Rico throwing to him, so whether we have a stud like Watson or a pick your poison of Mormon Pennington, Ohio State Overrated or ginger redemption project, A-Rob will perform.

"Ginger Redemption Project" sounds like an Irish Hipster Folk band.

That doesn't  change the fact that his strategy  has not been splashy FA deals.

Our roster is too gutted and lacks too much talent to not sign a few free agents who are immediate impact players.

Another dismal season with a bottom feeder roster and JD might be on the outside looking in.

This isn't  the NBA where you sign a star or 2 and a of the sudden you are playoff team

The numbaz add up quick. Like you said, ARob is likely getting $20 or so per year. Fans also want Thuney who likely gets $14 per year. Then Watson at $30 per year. We are also hoping to bring back some of our guys. Joe D won’t have much room to do anything else. Damn I’m going to have to tone down my expectations. I can’t see JD signing ARob if we get Watson. We’re going to have to go with a cheaper option like Corey Davis.

Watson would only count about $11.5M against the cap this season.  Meanwhile, Douglas can free up $8.2M in cap space by cutting Henry Anderson and $7.4M by cutting George Fant.  He could even restructure/extend Jamison Crowder to free up even more space.  All told, the Jets could be $70M+ under the cap in 2021 AFTER acquiring Watson.  And in 2022, it gets even better, as the Jets are currently projected to be $136M under the cap.

In no universe will the Jets need to go cheap at premium positions this offseason even after acquiring Watson.

Not really other guys will get better once surrounded by decent talent.

We aren't  going to agree on this. Our whole OL either sucks or are injury risks, We have no TE, we have no #1 WR, our RB', suck. Our CB's are below avg, Maye is OK but we have nothing at the other S spot, DL except for Q is inconsistent,  iLB is ok, edge is a joke.

I still do not see JD trading for Watson. It would be a total 180 from everything he has done thus far.

Lincoln came from rural Illinois. In the 1850s, after defeat in the Senate elections, he decided to retire from politics. But, he came back to become President in 1861.

Right. Watson’s contract structure does give us flexibility. And we can hope the cap jumps up enough to cover the spike in Watson’s contract in 2022.

Right. But we would have to be careful with the cap in future years. We can fit them all in this year but what happens when it spikes up to 32-35? Maybe there’s more maneuvering we can do. Or just hope that the cap increases enough in 2022 where we don’t have to worry about $20M jump in Watson’s contract.

Next season the Jets are currently projected to have $135M in cap space.  Watson's cap number would only drop that to $100M.

We're in fine shape.

What you aren't realizing is that the rest of the league  (with the exception of a very small handful of teams) sucks too.  Look at the games against the Raiders, Browns, Dolphins and Rams as your evidence.  These are playoff teams and fringe playoff teams this year.

We don't have to upgrade all of the positions you listed there to be competitive or a playoff team.  Deshaun Watson makes this team a playoff contender NEXT YEAR (we played with and beat some of those playoff contenders in a 2-14 season with massive injuries.  You don't think we can contend for a playoff spot next year by adding a top 5 NFL QB?.  Then if Joe D hits on free agency and the draft, we become contenders for the division against the Bills NEXT YEAR.

So are Twitters "Likes" the low-key way to reverse tamper?

What if a GM like Douglas went on Twitter and clicked Like on every single Robinson and Thuney tweet but didn't click Like on any Perriman or Scherff tweets?  Is that like the proverbial wink & nod at someone without saying anything. lol

In today’s world, yes. That’s how the athletes operate.  Just look at Adams and Bell this year
