  1. 1. Besides a loss, what would most disappoint you week 1?

    • Darnold plays lights out
    • Bechton can't play because of his foot
    • Zach Wilson has a terrible game
    • CMC runs hog wild
      0
    • Saleh looks out of depth as a HC -- bad clock management, play calls, etc.
    • CJ Mosley comes up small
      0
    • Herndon has several bad drops
    • No rookie skill player does anything of note
    • Corey Davis is invisible
      0
    • Mims shows no growth from last year
    • Our CBs get roasted by several deep plays
      0
    • Robby Anderson goes gonzo
    • Our kicker misses a couple gimmes
    • As long as we win, nothing else matters.
    • Nothing can disappoint me. It's one game.

Everything is riding on Wilson...

Yup. The only thing that would save them is another solution falling into their lap somehow.

I think the team looking flat/unprepared and getting blown out would probably be the worst case. That wasn't an option so I chose Saleh managing the game poorly which is an extension of that.

I won't lose my head over any one player or unit, but if the HC looks lost and the team isn't prepared that would be a bummer.

But it is the 1st game of his career, I understand people are impatient and want immediate results but call him a bust after 1 game is premature. But then again people are down on Becton because he had a minor condition in minicamp. So that would be par for the course as a Jets fan.

Jets fans are the most patient fans on Earth. For most of us our best Jets memory is hearing our dads or grandads talk about Joe Willie.

Agree with your point 100 %.  Still.  I think we will see a lot of clues early on to suggest if Wilson is a rookie with potential or a rookie that shows nothing.  For example.  If you watch the few first games with Josh Rosen you'll see clues that he is going to be a total wash out.  If you watch the early games with Baker Mayfield and or Sam Darnold, you'll see a rookie for sure, but you'll see a lot of potential.  Obviously, Darnold's story is not over yet.  He may just pan out of continue to falter, but at least in Darnold early on you could see some tools vs. Rosen who could do very little to impress at any time.

Let's hope Wilson's early play point to a bright future. There will be a lot of clues even before the end of his first official regular season start.

My grandfather saw them at the Polo Grounds in 1963 and became a fan.  My father had season tickets since 1976 and took me to my first Jet's game in 1980 when I finally showed interest in going to a football game.  I was 13 y/o then. They beat the Houston Oilers with Kenny The "Snake" Stabler in OT.  I took over the season tickets in 2005 and dropped them in 2014.

I was too young to comprehend/appreciate the 1969 trifecta of the Jets, Knicks and Mets. So basically I am one of the longest  tenured Jets fan that has never seen a championship. But don't confuse dealing with incompetence with this team and being patient. One has to do with not hiring a competent GM since Parcells was here, and he wasn't that great. He was just better than the crap we had before him and after him. Patience is allowing this young team to mature and understand that they will make mistakes, they will hit the wall and try to win a game by themselves. It happens. Understanding that will happen and to see improvements week by week is the patience I am talking about.

JD is in year 2 of the rebuild. Hopefully he hired a competent HC-staff and drafted a solid QB. If the 1st game doesn't go according to plan, I am not willing to throw my hands in the air and claim all is lost. This is the 1st time in my fandom that I feel confident in this team's  FO. I feel the overall team is much improved. I just hope Saleh and co. along with Zach are the real deal. It should make this team season entertaining and future ones as well.

They are talking about this particular game, it is too early either way to say he is the deal or not.

I like Darnold, and I feel that this franchise screwed him up. They drafted 3 DL after drafting Darnold before drafting an OL. And it was Edoga, a PFF darling that year.

Yeah, no

Just about every QB will have a "hopeless" type game.  Its not over after week 1, come on.

And set back 4 years no less.

I watch the first Regular season game that Josh Rosen played in.  I knew he was never going to pan out as a starter after that game.  I thought the same for a handful of other QB's their first time out.  And I had it right each time.

And?

Peyton Manning threw 3 picks in week 1.

Elway was 5-16, 49yards and on his way to a benching.

While a scrub like Nagle has a big day.

I can keep going.

Probably 85% of all QBs never pan out.  You weren't on to something

Elway and Manning both looked very promising in their debut performance despite the numbers.  They passed the eye test.  You could clearly see the toolbox.  It was obvious.

I watch ND college football and I thought that Brady Quinn and Jimmy Clausen had a shot at being pro QB's.   UNTIL I saw their debut games.  Quinn looked like a robot and Clausen was clearly strained.  I knew after their first regular season games that they would not pan out.  Same deal with Dwayne Haskins.  I thought he'd be good as pro until I saw his debut.

The only QB that I thought would SUCK after his first game that wound up improving was Josh Allen.

Elway looked like garbage and Peyton threw most of his passes in the backfield.

As I said most QBs fail, seeing a QB like B Quinn, who everyone thought would sucks actually suck in week one isnt a surprise.  Same with Haskins.  Two terrible examples because they were predicted to fail.

Elway had amazing mobility and a strong arm.  Peyton was not in synch, but the arm talent was there.  I dont agree with what you saw.   Another example close to home was Kellen Clemmens.  I knew he was going to suck after 1 game as a starter.

But that is the past.

Tune in when I give my assessment of Wilson and Lawrence after their first starts.

I will tell you, here in this very forum... If both of those respective QB's have a shot at becoming productive NFL QB's after one start.  That's right.  I'll be able to tell if either one will suck for ever and ever after just one start.

Who cares, Nagle had a bigger arm.  And sucked.  Lots of QBs have the tools a and fail.  Your own example, you thought Allen would fail.  He has an Elway like arm and can run.

I could care less about assessments about QBs after week 1.  Means nothing.  Other than the pick 6, Darnold had a really good first game.

I am going off the board.  All those options provided, but what would worry me the most for the season is if our OL is healthy going into game 1 and we can't protect Zack or open any running lanes.

In other words, the offense looks just like last year, and the year before that, and the year before that and.....

Whole off-season together, preseason games and TC. They better look much better than last year and previous. Hopefully the design of the offense helps them look better too, without Gase's genius keeping his team looking bewildered by their own sideline.

Jesus people, why do you do this to yourself?  Zach having a bad game to start his career would disappoint you the most?  Seriously?  lmfao.   I know there are many blow hard Zach fans on this site and above all else, this place loves swallowing fluff pieces like they are Viagra but the unfortunate reality is, more then likely, Zach is going to suck his rookie season and it's ok, it's not about next season.

The level of competition jump he's about to make is brutal.  The kid is going to have to face BB twice in his first 5 games of his career and he has 4 road games in his first 6 games.  The Jets may very well start out 0-5/6.   He's playing behind a "wait and see" OL, w/ "wait and see" skills players and "wait and see" running game.  While it's great they're better then what we've had, that's not much of an accomplishment.  The Jets were trash, so road kill would be an upgrade.  He's also playing for a rookie HC and a first time play caller with zero veteran presence in the QB room.   It's not a good formula for success, especially not on the road, week 1 with all sorts of pressure to out perform Darnold.

And lets be real, anyone who knows this team knows for a fact, without a shadow of a doubt, Darnold and Anderson have career days week 1.   It's written in stone.  Who the **** is stopping Robby on this team?  lmfao.   No pass rush, no corners, RunCMC, Anderson, DJ Moore, Terrance Marshall Jr.   They're going to light this D up!

The answer should unanimously be Becton and shame on those who voted for Saleh.  In his first game as HC? Really?
