Per B. Coz - Jets are waiving Mims if they can't find last-minute trade

Brian Costello @BrianCoz

The Jets plan on releasing WR Denzel Mims if they can’t find a trade partner first, according to sources. Mims, a 2020 second-round pick, will get a fresh start somewhere else.

The Jets informed Mims he was being waived and excused him from reporting for camp. Teams are interested in claiming Mims so it is possible someone could make a last-minute trade for him to guarantee they get him.

Explains why he wasn't at OTAs the later couple of weeks when the media was there

Or he skipped them and that’s when the Jets were done. He never seemed to be on board. From draft day on his head seemed elsewhere.

I wonder why they wouldn't at least start with him in camp and wait until we see what we have ( and that we dont suffer an injury) before dumping him for nothing?

What do they gain by releasing him this early? Another roster spot for camp?

Um, they have had 3 years to look at him.  He stinks.

I wonder if they're stuck paying him if he gets injured?

He was done with the Jets and the Jets were done with him.  He falls in the same category as Elijah Moore and Mekhi Becton.  The relationship is broken and cannot be repair.

Mims stunk anyway.

Great take as always.  The irony of it all is that all the players that you mentioned ( plus Z. Wilson) were drafted by your genius GM.

Had high hopes for him. Never came to fruition. Whether it was his health, awful QB play or opportunity at this stage it doesn't matter. He hasn't worked out and likely we give his 6th WR spot to someone else.

I wonder if he falls under the category of "do they love football or just like it".

Robert Saleh: What Is Your Motivation?

"do they play the game because they like it or because they love it. There's a distinct difference between the two as well because when you look at guys who play the game because they like what it does to their brand, or are they playing the game because they absolutely love everything about it. They love the football part of it, they love the studying, they love rehab, they love training, the locker room, they love everything. Those are the ones that usually work out in this league."

Should have traded up for Tee Higgins.

Similar player profile coming out of college, except Mims is more athletic while Higgins is actually good at football.

What kind of silly take is this?  Tee Higgins went 33rd.  The Jets were at 48.  Why would the Bengals want to trade down?  The cost would have been a 3rd.  Yes the Jets would have been better off with Higgins than Mims and Zuniga, but if you are going to play that game then why not just sit pat and take Claypool, Akers, or Van Jefferson?  Even better, why not just take Hurts?

Mims has a better physical profile and went 26 picks later.  That's why everybody was happy.  The Jets net Mims, James Morgan, Cam Clarke and Nasrildeen for #48.  Yes, those picks sucked.  Maybe we should remember that when we always screaming for the trade down.  They were not bad prospects, but they are bad players.
