Jiminity Cricket Johnson went to USC to hire Hudson Houck

and here is

how that turned out- Houck spent the next nine years coaching the offensive line for the Dallas Cowboys. At times during Houck's tenure the Cowboys' line was one of the most dominant in the history of the game. The 203 sacks they allowed in nine years under Houck were the fewest of any NFL team in that span. Six offensive linemen earned 22 trips to the Pro Bowl under Houck, including Larry Allen (7), Nate Newton (5), Erik Williams (4), Ray Donaldson (2), Mark Stepnoski (2) and Mark Tuinei (2). Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith earned a pair of rushing titles during Houck's tenure, and rushed for over 1,000 yards every season. He was also the assistant head coach from 1994 to 1997.

Someone else made a decent point even if you could convince this great line coach to defect he'd be signing on to an organization with the GM and hc in lame duck years... Rodgers 1 foot in retirement.

No stability no long term plan.

Most football people live in Florida they don't want to move their lives to NJ on a whim

Woody's already mad he had to cut Quinnen and Aaron these big checks last offseason

Firing (buy out) is more likely than extensions (raises) but the front runner is nothing at all

Yeah you can see some weird lame duck thing happening.

Or just hire a Callahan or Scarnecchia.  There are many capable oline coaches out there.  The jets need one who doesn’t kill the players during practice.

I dont know how assistant coach contracts work when the HC is fired, but Callahan is with the raiders and could become available.  Id literally pay him anything he wants to come here.

Apparently there’s some chatter that many of the injuries occur in practice.  It would be interesting to see if this was higher than the norm.  It looks like some of the oline players are mailing it in and that could lead to more injuries if they don’t use the proper techniques while blocking.

Scott Peters.  Brown's assistant offensive line coach under Callahan.  Jim NcNally has called him the best pass protection coach.  Bob Wylie has also had remarkable things to say about him.

Adrian Klemm with the Patriots had plenty of college experience and was at Oregon in 2022. Despite their offensive struggles has been doing well with NE's OL. With BB likely on his way out makes you wonder if he'll be available.

Ulbrich and Klemm spent time together on UCLA's coaching staff under Jim Mora.  They were also teammates at University of Hawaii.  So there's that connection.

The OL coach isn't why the OL sucks. The OL sucks because Joe Douglas is a stupid person. He gave Gase a bonus prove it year instead of committing to a coach and system but went ahead with an immediate full rebuild of the line anyway. Gase gets fired and they change to an offense that exactly zero of Becton, Lewis, McGovern, Van Roten, Fant would have been signed for in the first place. Dumb hope prevails over logic and instead of getting multiple guys who fit in the new system they trade three picks for one guard. It's not the OL coach. It's not injuries. It's not because minimum salary backups are taking reps at multiple positions (I mean is this guy even for real). It's piles of moronic decisions and there's not one neat trick to fix it. If they keep the band together for 2024 they're going to be the expansion Browns for five years after that, and if they keep it together for 2025 it's going to be ten.

I wish all of JD's fanbois would take an hour or so to peruse the depth charts of all the teams that have winning records, this year. They have 2nd string offensive linemen that would be starters on the Jets, right now. And almost all of them were taken in rounds 3-7. Teams like the Cowboys have starting Tackles that weren't even drafted.

JD makes this look hard, but it isn't.

I found it interesting that of the 8 OL in this article about "building the AFC Pro Bowl team", 2 of these were Jets players not very long ago. One was let go and many posters here were highly critical of the move, but the other was a regular poster boy for "how bad our talent level sucked". well I guess he doesn't suck that bad on a different team with a different system / coaches.

Yeah we'd be doing okay with Moses and Van Roten on the Right side right now lol.  Joe Namath definitely sold his soul.  Wait, sold OUR souls.

Moses had no desire to play here.   He was a FA, not really taggable, and had a choise.

GVR (Van Rotten as the fans called him) was terrible in this scheme, but obviously there is a scheme where he does better.  Are the scouts getting players that match the scheme?

I think when you have a unit  that is THIS consistently inept, there is enough blame to go around.

The personnel is bad, the depth is bad, the injuries have been crippling, and the coaching is bad.

The personnel is not only bad, but they are mismatched to the scheme.

Kill them during practice?

There’s only 14 padded practices ALL YEAR!

To me that’s more of an indictment on coaching than anything.
