everyone always wants to trade down...why do you think Carolina wants to give up what they'd have to give up in order to move up?

Jets should trade down every year, unfortunately it's not that easy.  And macc has shown an inability to make deals.

In order for the jets to move down, someone has to want to move up.

And with a lack of elite level qb talent the odds of that happening are slim

Trading down from the top pick for two gets you something.  Trading back from #6 gets you ugatz.  Dumb friggin' move -- stay put and just get the pick right .

Only Trades I want the Jets to make should involve 3 Players.

Sheldon Richardson

Calvin Pryor

Brandon Marshall

The 1st 2 are a definite, and I really don't care what we get back in return. I just want both gone .

Even if the Jets can pick up an extra 3rd or 4th by trading down, depending on how far down, it would be worth it. This team lacks depth and has many issues and should be focusing on building through the draft. The talent between pick 6 and 26 won't be that different.

The Jets finished the season 5-11 with many glaring needs in the upcoming draft we need immediate impact players who can come in start and improve this team no way do you trade down you stay put and improve the team by drafting a very good player at 6 now only if the talent scouts and coaching staff would fully understand the draft we would be alright.

So you'd rather have one impact player at six in the first round than multiple impact players in multiple rounds?

Carl we cant seem to pick 1 player in the first round who is an impact player and you think we are going to pick multiple impact players?

I have a bridge for sale and some swamp land in Florida can I interest you in either?

Jeeeesus. Biggest pet peeve of draft season, the just-trade-back-and-draft-position-x-without-any-knowledge-of-who-is-actually-on-the-board plan. It's almost as bad as the guys complaining that we didn't get anyone from the elite-possession-burner tree that is always so bountiful.

Joe you cant make this sh*t up!

i firmly believe many are stuck in suck and like to be miserable. as Jets fans most definitely @rex-n-effect

Yes. They most certainly can. Will they? Time will tell.

Sounds great to say, "let's trade down", but someone has to want to trade up.  That means an impact player is there that someone values enough to mess up their draft to go get.  Do you want to give up the ability to take that player ourselves so that we can get another mid round pick and settle for a lesser player? We need players, but more than that we need good players.  BPA all the way.

That pick could be another Hackenberg though!

It's just board fodder. It's not like these discussions don't happen every season.

Hilarious stuff -- oh yeah, it's going to be a very long off season.

In 2014 Sammy Watkins was drafted 4th overall. He's scored 17 TDs in his 37 game career. That same year Kelvin Benjamin was drafted 28th. He's scored 16 TDs in 32 career games. Want more examples? There's plenty.

The Jets drafted Calvin Pryor 0 TDs

And who did we draft??? It's about getting it right, not getting more picks to just draft more trash.

Cherry pick all the examples you like, but over the long haul teams are generally far more likely to hit on a pick at 4 rather than 28.  Benjamin came in with a boom or bust tag, and just so happened to work out great for Carolina.  28th is where you take a chance on guys like that.

That's probably true, but if you have good scouts and player personnel people, you should be able to hit no matter where you draft. Having more picks on a terrible team is a good thing.

So you can't get more picks and get them right? Weird.

If there is a player at 6 that the Jets love, feel he fits into the team dynamic and will make an immediate impact they should take him.  However if there isn't one that fits really well then a trade down is a very good idea especially when our Gm has had nice success in mid to lower areas of the draft and has stunk in the 1st 2 rounds (missing on 3 of 4 imo)

We have holes all over the place some of them hole we never expected to have.  If the deal is right I'd be happy to traded down rather than trying to shoe horn a player into our team.

Talent between 6 and 26 no different? What are we smoking? We are in the top 10, screw trading and draft the best player that fits the system we want to run.

it really isn't.  the art of drafting is figuring out who has peaked, who will continue to improve, and who will take the money and quit.  look at any redraft, its nuts how deep into the draft you can hit a homerun

Interesting draft statistics from 2010-2016:  There is not a huge drop off in finding a starter between the 1st pick to the 18th pick, with a few exception (picks 3, 7, 13, 14).. though this might be due to the small sample size.  It does trend that finding an all pro or bowl bowl type of player occurs earlier in the draft.  The 9th pick is the outlier as both Tyron Smith and Luke Kuechley were drafted in that spot and they have been perennial pro bowlers.  Maurkice Pouncey and Marcus Peters were also both picked at that 18th spot.  Pick 23, 26 and 29 seem to be the developmental boom or bust type of picks (Josh Doctson, Paxton Lynch, Robert Nkemdiche from 2016 draft).  Keep in mind though, that teams drafting near the top would more likely need more starting type players while playoff teams at the bottom can wait a year for the draft pick to develop (See higher percentage of starter all but one year near the bottom of the picks).  Basically, if a team thinks the pick is going to be pro bowler, by all means select him regardless (Leonard Williams), if not trade back cause the likelihood that the pick is a full time starter would not really change that much.
